EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S MESSAGE

IT's BEEN ONE BIG rollercoaster ride! We just wrapped up another successful Golf Tournament last MONTH! The sun was shining, and members and their guests had a great time.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER ANGELA WHITE

I want to give a big shout out to Ken Hassett of Builders First Source for chairing this year’s event and to committee members Greg Amendala of JER Custom Homes and Mike Koidahl of MDK Construction. The committee, along with OMB’s Events Director Brianna Bedell, executed a smoothly ran event. I would like to also thank all the sponsors and volunteers who made the day possible. Make sure to follow our Facebook page at facebook. com/olympiamasterbuilders to see more information about the sponsors and volunteers. Next up in the OMB event line up is the Tour of Homes on Saturday, July 24 and Sunday July 25. This committee led by Barb Whitlow of Oly Fed, is made up of several member volunteers: Karen McClennen, John Canfield of Maplewood Media, Diane Gassman of Interior Dimensions,

LLC, John Erwin of John Erwin Remodeling, Inc., and Merrilee DeForest of Strategy Insurance Brokers, LLC. The Tour will be a bit smaller due to COVID-19 realities and current inventory but will still be full of amazing projects for public viewing! The OMB Tour of Homes is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your work to the community! If you are interested in participating in the future, please reach out to OMB’s Events Director Brianna Bedell at brianna@omb.org for Tour information. I want to give the event committees, OMB leadership and Brianna, OMB’s Event Director a shoutout for the work that has been done on events over the past 16 months. It has been a rollercoaster ride, as you all know as businesses in WA State, to stay on top of current health regulations and pivot appropriately…sometimes days apart. This year many of the events are calendared at different times to make sure that we are offering the membership the most meaningful event possible while still navigating the COVID-19 health regulations. If you have any questions about upcoming events, please reach out to me at angela@omb.

Get ready for Membership Monopoly, BIAW’s 2021 membership drive! BIAW encourages all members to “get on the board,” become a “player” and recruit to win 2022 IBS “achievements” and prizes. Get ready to play July 1- Oct. 31. Will you #WinItAll? RULES OF PLAY: All BIAW members are eligible to play. All you need to do to become a Player is recruit new members. HERE’S HOW YOU GET ON THE BOARD: Between July 1 and Oct. 31, recruit to earn points, directly related to the National Association of Home Builders’ 2022 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Florida. HERE IS HOW YOU GET POINTS: 1. A Player will earn (1) point for each new member (builder or an associate) recruited. 2. A Player may earn (1) extra point if the new member enrolls in BIAW’s ROII program (and is qualified). 3. A Player may earn (1) extra point if the new member enrolls in BIAW’s Health Insurance program (and is qualified). Players may earn a total of (3) points for recruiting one new member. Here’s how: • One new builder or associate member = 1 point • + BIAW Health Insurance program = 1 point • + ROII program = 1 point

4 • Chalk Line

4. A Player’s ‘extra points’ must be enrolled and qualified in ROII and/or BIAW’s Health Insurance program by October 31. Verification of enrollment in above program(s) is based on the program’s respective new enrollee report. 5. A Player’s new member tally is based on the ‘new member’ column from NAHB’s monthly Spike report. The Players’ final new member count is based on the October 31, 2021 report. 6. A Player may not combine points with other Players. 7. There is no limit on how many Players can win! All winners will be announced no later than November 30. ACHIEVEMENTS: If you recruit, you can win achievements. • If you earn 5 points, you win an exclusive entry for you and a guest to a BIAW-hosted Recruiter Reception at NAHB’s IBS in sunny Orlando, Florida. • If you earn 15 points, you win a five-night stay at a BIAW-designated hotel in Orlando for you and a guest to attend BIAW’s exclusive Recruiters’ Reception. • If you earn 20 points, you will win roundtrip airfare for you and a guest to Orlando, plus the five-night hotel stay and access to BIAW’s exclusive Recruiter Reception. You will win it all! You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity! Remember all members can play and there is no limit on how many can win. Do you have what it takes to #WinItAll? If you have any questions about Membership Monopoly, please contact BIAW Membership Manager Karen Hall at karenh@biaw.com or (360) 352-7800 ext. 137.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to the 21st Annual Tour of Homes This event lends visitors a front-row seat to the latest trends in interior and exterior design, sustainable building techniques, energy efficiency, and cuttingedge in-home technology.

PRESIDENT JOHN ERWIN

This year has been a little different in the wake of Covid-19, and while we’ve had to cancel our 2021 Chefs on Tour event, we are excited to bring the live Tour back to our community. This year, we will be showcasing five amazing projects– one remodel, one solar project, and three new construction projects - one of which is a complex of luxury apartment homes. In the wake of COVID-19, OMB will be ensuring the health and safety of our builders, homeowners and our community by practicing the required safety measured as laid out by the Governor’s office. Included in this year’s Tour Guide edition is a sneak-peek of each of the five projects as well as a map of the locations and a look at our event sponsors. While we are going electronic

SItE #2 - 1801 East Bay Dr NE #H - Olympia

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The heart of this remodel was to create an open concept kitchen and living room area as well as renovate the bedrooms and baths. A large brick fireplace originally dominated the living room. Interior Dimensions was brought in to design an updated look, using neutral tones, large format tile and a floating wood grain concrete mantel. The powder room, master and guest baths were all refreshed with new vanities, quartz countertops, tile, and focused lighting. The home was modernized using a light color scheme, warm toned hardwood flooring, and accentuating the breathtaking waterfront view.

John Erwin Remodeling, Inc. I NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECT 3 bedrooms | 2.5 baths | 2,443 sq. ft. | $750,000

SItE #3 - 5236 Black Lake Blvd, SW - Olympia

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This beautiful lakefront custom home overlooks Black Lake with a picture-perfect view of Mount Rainier. Our client, who is in her golden years, wanted to build her “forever home” on her property. We incorporated many “aging in place “techniques into the design which will allow her to live in her home safely and comfortably. The main challenge in the design process was that it is a sloping lot, which made it a natural to be a home with a main floor, with a full daylight basement below. The accessibility hurdle was overcome by incorporating an elevator into the design. Our client wanted a more modern northwest look and feel while maximizing the views from both floors. We met all her design goals along with bringing the “outdoors in” with her “Forever Home”.

FEATURES

• Residential Elevator incorporated and blended into the design making it disappear. • Gas Fireplace with slate and old growth wood mantle • Large Milgard window wall in family room and dining room and Milgard French doors • Trex and membrane Covered decks with T&G cedar soffits and stainless steel cable guard rails.

DETAILED DIRECTIONS

• Hickory hard wood throughout. • Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, pre-finished interior trim package with solid wood doors. • White shaker cabinets with quartz countertops. • Heated flooring and towel racks in bathrooms. • Exterior professionally landscaped including Stone landscape walls, stone patio, stone stairs in front and back.

From the Intersection of Black Lake Blvd. SW and Cooper Point SW, head southwest on Black Lake Blvd. SW. After about 3.5 mi. the residence will be on your left.

projects and identify roles and responsibilities between the County and the applicant, regarding expectations. It will also provide a clear communication tool to address issues or revisions and will allow Thurston County to meet GMA review timelines.

City of Lacey

The City of Lacey’s Tree Task force will be recommending to the Lacey City Council a change to the City’s Urban Forestry Plan. This change will require a citizen to call the City’s arborist and schedule an appointment if they plan to remove any trees from their prop-

City Of Chehalis

The City of Chehalis is currently in the process of voting on the section of the International Building Code that would require Fire Sprinklers in new home construction. City staff has expressed that this is due to lack of adequate fire flow. OMB is working this issue and has attended a council meeting and a work group with the council. It will be going before the City Council for a vote on June 28th at 5pm. Members are encouraged to participate.
