Moving here in 1994, I started working at Flowers by Susan which allowed me to enjoy serving the community during holidays and special occasions. Derina’s Flower Basket came to be in April of 1998 in Tonasket, WA. My husband and I opened Derina’s in the Old National Bank, one of the first banks established in 1923. The old vault room is still there. After 3 years, I received a call from Safeway in Omak offfering fering me the position of Floral Manager. After working almost 5 years at Safeway with some really great people, I set out on my own again opening a shop in Okanogan in 2006. I provide custom arrangements in fresh or silk, each designed specifically for you.

As an artist, I want every one of my arrangements to tell a story.

Whether it is a story of ‘spring’ or being picked as someone’s special sweet sweetheart or being memorialized when we pass, something that represents the recipient added to the bouquet.

When doing a wedding, finding out where the location is and building on the theme of the service is very important to me as a designer.

Something as simple as a thinner ribbon or the texture of the flowers can bring everything to together, including family.

When donating to specific causes or clubs, I try to find out what their event is representing and then go from there. No one wants an auction item that doesn’t move. I encourage groups or organizations too converse with me and tell me exactly what they haavve in mind, leaaving artistic int interpretation terpretation to be connvveyed by the product.

I’m really blessed to get to do this kind of work and you know how the old saying goes... ‘do what you love and you never haave to work a day in your life’.


