Course Policies Add and Drop Policy

You could use the add and drop policy to drop any course and replace it with another at certain times of the semester. There is no limitation in using this policy as long as it is before its deadline. In both fall and spring semesters you could add and drop at the first week of each semester. In case of summer semester, the add and drop period lasts for only the first two days of the semester, while during the winter semester it lasts for only the first day. . In winter semester there is only one day that students could add and drop after the semester starts.

Drop Policy after the deadline

This policy is used for students who want to drop a course if after the deadline of the add and drop. They could drop the course by filling an online form and submitting it to the registrar. This online form is on student.aucegypt.edu . In the case of the dropping the course student still can’t take any other subject instead and will not take the fees that were paid. Student Can still make a late drop (after the deadline for dropping courses) but will have to fill a petition saying the reason for dropping the course.

Repeat Policy

The repeat policy is used when a student is not satisfied with his/her grade or if a student got an F in any of his courses. This policy can only be used 5 times throughout your undergraduate career. If a student used the repeat policy, He/she has to repeat the same course and can’t take another course unless the same course is no longer offered for the following two years. After repeating the course the first attempt will no longer be calculated in the GPA, although it will not be deleted from the student’s record.

Incomplete Policy

This policy is used for students who are unable to complete the course. This gives them the right to continue work in the course but become exempted from the examination period. If the professor will submit an incomplete grade he has to fill a form containing three things. Reason for the incomplete, the material that wasn’t covered and what is action that should be taken in order to remove this grade.

Attendance

Attending the class regularly is expected from all students. A failure to attend classes may affect your final grade. In the case of being absent more than 6 times or 3 weeks the professor could give the student an F or ask him/her to drop the course. In case of an excuse for 1 week from the 3 weeks the professor may give the student an incomplete grade and the work have to be completed in the first month of the following semester.

The man replies, "Brothers and sisters have I none, but that man's father is my father's son." Answer: Son of a man who was studying the painting

Probation

Students with GPAs below 2.00 will be placed on academic probation. The probation period can’t be more than 2 regular semesters. The student have to achieve GPA higher than 2.00. A failure to achieve this standard will make the student dismissed from the university. Also students of ENG 100 that fail in passing will be put on warning. If a student’s cumulative GPA is below 2.00, he /she cannot take more that 13 credit hours the following semester. If the student is an ENG 100 he/she is only permitted to take 7 credit hours and the advisor should follow his/her performance. If a student is on probation he/she is not allowed to participate in activities such as teams, clubs and any other activity.

How many semesters are there in one year?

There are four semesters in a year: fall, winter, spring and summer. Summer semester: The summer semester has 3 sessions. a) Session A: This session is an accelerated session. It starts at the first day in the summer semester and ends 3 weeks after. b) Session B: Session B is accelerated as well but the difference is that it starts after 3 weeks of the beginning of the summer semester. c) Session C: This session is considered a normal semester. It takes 6 weeks to finish session C. “We need inspiration. In order to build our nation, we must all exceed our expectations” – Nelson Mandella

Online Forms There are forms that are posted on the AUC website so you can fill and submit them easily rather than going to the departments, for example : Drop classes, Petition to enrol in this course or petition to take overload, petition to repeat a course..etc . To see these online forms go to: http://www.aucegypt.edu/students/registrar/forms/Pages/default.aspx

Important Dates and Calendar

There are important dates that you have to know, such first week is the drop and add week When you can add or remove a course without any petitions or forms and you can earn your money back. After this week you are not allowed to add or drop any course and cannot withdraw your money back. The drop week is mainly after the Second midterms which is before the exams by a month you can drop any course before this period. After this week you cannot drop, although there is a petition called LATE DROP, but it is not prefered it because it mainly get rejected by the registrar and the professor.
