The piece is performed wit h guitar pickups and telephone pickups that the composer can provid e ( aguilapulpo (at) gmail ). The piece could be done by one performer up to any number of them. Just the amount of the two different pickups must be balanced. Hence, a group should be divid ed in two: the group of guit ar pickups and the group of telephone pickups. Amplification is required and individ ual speaker per performer is encouraged. However a stereo set up –one channel for each group– is also possible.
Transferences of all kind of vital activity are crossing continuously our existence in several la yers. From affect information to actual electricity. Laptops are very particular media tors between those interchanges of power and they can allow us to sculpt that energy. In a socia l situation of producing sound as a group of performers through this instruments, this qualities of energy are simultaneously living among the magnetism of the creative act. Those are the materials and poetics which I’m interested to experience.
All of This shapes represent dynamics in the vertical axis, i.e. the thicker the area the louder should sound.
The duration of the events and transitions between them, is approximated. When this duration is not notated, those events/transitions rely on the performative identity of the ensemble and might be derived intuitively by it through rehearsals. Time is notated in horizontal axis.
Conductor cues are indicated where precise synchronization is required. Without a conductor, they could be marked by one of the performers. Horizontal arrows mean continuous transformation from one state to another
Vertical dotted lines mean synchronization is suggested.
1 st Staff: Guitar pickups play always on the keyboard surface. 2 nd Staff: Telephone pickups play always on the power charger surface. Both performer groups control the dynamics by the proximity of the pickup to the sound source. The closer, the louder is going to be.
events enclosed in boxes are meant to repeat and/or change in time
Also: 1 st Staff: On the keyboard 3 different sounds activit y should be found: * a) one high pitched sound – mostly found in a small area on the right bottom corner, besides the trackpad b) a random activity noise – all over the keys c) a low pit ched sound – small area in the left upper corner. 2 nd Staff: On the power charger b) and c) should be found * * The variety of sounds and its amplitude varies in each computer. This piece was rehearsed by ToneBurst Ensemble where at least a) and b) could be achieved on Mac bookPro's. As minimum, two different sounds need to be available for the performance, where b) an d c) are interchangeable for both sound sources.
Rectangles enclose an event that is going to be repeated or transformed through time.
Horizontal dotted arrows mean to keep producing the event
