SELECTED WORKS 2014-2019

MUSEO MAREA

Visitor Center & Museum of Marea. Marea Island, Mariout Lake, Alexandria, Egypt 21st Place in class 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Salah Hariedy and T.A Sara Annani Marea Phlixonite is a susceptible site requiring a delicate design that correlates to the context and the nature of its surroundings. Thus, influencing the use of topography integrated design strategies that emphasize the formality and respectfulness of the site’s value. Moreover, integrating the site with the museum through managing the archaeological site to embrace the crowds to visit and experience the Byzantine age through the archaeological park. Managing the Marea archaeological site in a general approach to make all heritage accessible to the public to relive and experience the past to peek into the byzantine age, thus creating the Marea phlixonite archaeological park. This park is designed on cultural heritage management modern definition, which evolved throughout the years from an object-based approach to an all-inclusive approach that pivots on the notions intangible setting and context as well as urban and sustainable development.

GRAECO ROMAN MUSEUM

Reuse of the Graeco roman museum. Fouad Street, Alexandria, Egypt 2nd Place in class 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Hebatullah Abuelfadll and T.A Sara Annani The project aims to preserve the building’s identity and persona, to cherish the memories that live through the walls of this very building, the various eras and periods they lived through, the heritage that runs through the cracks of their walls and columns, the building’s soul, the surrounding context of Fouad street and its cosy vibe that draws people to the place that they once grew around, to see it once again, familiar, yet filled with purpose and hope rather that weak and worn out. To achive this vision I had to maintain the memorable pieces as well as preserve the building’s walls as much as possible with minimum modification to use a simple yet effective design strategy. Minamilism preserving the view and visual contact between the old “Fouad street” and the new t “Visitors hall” to feel how far have we got and where’re we standing now, what’vve we been through, how much has this city changed through time. As well as extending the rest of the museum into underground levels, through a journy into the archaeological discoveries of “Kum El-Shukafa” & “Shatby tombs” and other discoveries moved from various ignored sites in Alexandria.

EGYPTIAN CONSULATE

Designing an Egyptian Consulate in Calgary, Canada 1st place in class 2019 with assosiation of Abdulrahman Amin under the supervision of Dr. Hebatullah Abuelfadll and T.A Ahmed Hassan Khalil The project aims to create and design a consulate that reflects the Egyptian identity in a simple and symbolic way to reflect and share our persona to the world. Therefore and based on this concept we researched and developed some abstracted Egyptian symbolism such as the ratio used by the Pharohs in their temples gate ways, inspired by “Horas Temple in Edfo, Luxor as well as the brick materials used and granite and marble used in the elevations and many more subtle but striking details. All this without being intrusive to the enviromet around us, to leave our mark but not too deep that citizens feel out of place or uncomfortable . Moving on from eye candy design strategies to more impactful methods to share our culture and way of thinking. We implemented an outdoor exhibition that blends in with the surrounding landscape and that is freely available to the public which includes Egyptology materials that varies from art to tools to furniture as well as a mini food cuisine. As we wrapped the project from designing and planning to visualisation and post-production we were faced with a new challenge as we wanted to try presenting the work with a simple new approach that stands and speaks for itself and reflect the Egyptian vibe.

MAHMOUDEYA GRAND HOTEL

Five star hotel overlookng mahmoudeya canal and Antoniades gardens, Alexandria, Egypt 6th Place in class 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Hebatullah Abuelfadll and T.A Ahmed Hassan Khalil The project aims to preserve the context, creating a new envirnoment for a luxurious 5-star hotel with the required aminities and services which I did acheieve in this project which required alot of reading material to get familiar with the most common planning criteria to 5 stars hotels. This acompanied with the design vision to overlook the mahmoudeya canal and antoniadous park and maximize the viewing angles and number of rooms which could see it. To achive this vision I had to maintain a double loaded layout and create an alternative view for the back end users thus creating a pool deck on the outside backend. Preserving the view and visual contact between the historic “Mahmoudya canal” and the new “hotel” to feel how far have we got and where’re we standing now, what’ve we been through, how much has this city changed through time. As well as extending the rest of the hotel onto the canal to revive a beach like envirnoment on the other side of the canal.

LAKESIDE HOUSE

Designing villa with 9x9x9 dimension constraint. King Mariout, Alexandria, Egypt 2nd Place in class 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Hebatullah Abuelfadll and T.A Sara Annani A Lakeside house was a 2-week challenge aiming to integrate a residential artist villa on Mariout lakeside in a confined 9x9x9m volume. Thus my main goal was optimising the view to the public spaces in the building as well as achieving comfortable privacy in the private areas, giving total harmony to the whole structure with the integration between the interior, landscape and view. A soil slope difference of 4 m was a challenging endeavour, yet overcome by embedding the building in that slope thus dividing the building into 3 floors with the entrance on the top floor and private rooms in the mid-floor and the lounge and landscape in the bottom one with a view to lake Mariout.

ARCHITECT STUDIO

Designing a 15m3 studio on your roof top. Zezenia, Alexandria, Egypt 1st Place in class 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Hebatullah Abuelfadll and T.A Noor Mohamed An Architect Retreat, A place to escape the world and its worries and focus on your architectural designs. A one-week challenging project of an architects studio on the roof of one of Alexandria’s buildings, confined in a 15m3 of volume. The projects aim was to use the limited space as efficiently as possible to produce a workable and comfortable environment. I choose a sustainable, recyclable material which was the “Shipping Dock wooden palettes”, which was a modular and flexible material to work with, producing foldable windows and desks, proper ventilation and a lightweight structure that could be easily constructed and deconstructed. Volume split into two equal parts and held by a Bauhaus chair-like structure, giving stability and sturdiness to the whole structure.
