President’s Message—Joanne Moul Dear Friends, Catala members have been busy doing what they do best: raising money and having fun! Our summer social was everything a social should be. From our newest member Merilee Amos, to our most cherished member, Winnie Hook, it seems every member who could come, did. Kim Crary had the great idea to go with a Mexican theme. Casa Vicky catered the dinner with plenty of delicious food and we had a margarita machine that produced yummy margaritas. Most importantly, though, the evening provided the opportunity for Catala members to rekindle old friendships and begin new ones. It wasn’t the warmest of evenings, we missed the heat wave by hours, but the warmth created by the Santa Clara camaraderie was all
around us. No matter how different we all our, we always have Bronco pride in common! A special treat was that Santa Clara Magazine photographers were present to photograph Catala’s past presidents, gathered around Winnie. Look for the article about Catala in Santa Clara Magazine’s winter issue. And what a Fashion Plates we had! I knew it was going to be a success from our very first meeting in June. There was just too much enthusiasm and excitement throughout the committee for it to be anything but successful. Our event chairs, Georgia Schon and Nancy Tarantino, gathered together a team of volunteers, who, I truly believe, could run the world. Everything flowed flawlessly throughout the day.
Our Fashion Plates volunteers covered even the tiniest details to provide our members and their guests a relaxed, tasteful atmosphere, where they could visit, shop, and dine. Hostess tables were unique, creative, and desirable. Fashions by Designers Corner were lovely, chic, and practical. So, thank you to all, our guests as well as our volunteers, who participated in our fall fundraiser, and who contributed to the success of our 9th Annual Fashion Plates. We look forward, now, to our Gilroy Outlets shopping trip. It’s another opportunity to visit with friends while we take advantage of Columbus Day sales. See you on the bus Monday, October 11.

Chaplain’s Message—William F. Donnelly, S.J. One day I was walking in a park in the Netherlands, probably Amsterdam, and an elderly man asked me which country was my home. When I stated the United States, he brightened up and replied "I love your country. You fed us after the war when we were starving”.
Upcoming Events:
periences too, but it is better to let that go.
Remembering goodness is also at the core of our faith. God's plan to bring us all to salvation through Jesus is basic and should not be forgotten. Finding time and opAnd that's a good thing, to portunities to make that remember a kindness, the help operative in daily activities is and goodness of others. "Let us never forget!" Americans are known too, as very generous, a trait that is manifest within our own Catala Club. We are most grateful for that and have every reason to think of each day as another chance to make it one of thanksgiving. William F. Donnelly, S.J. Chaplain
