Sea Brawns HEESEN’S LAURENTIA MEETS HER OWNER It’s always about outdoing the feats of the past for Heesen Yachts, and it is no different with the successful delivery of Laurentia, a muscular-looking steel superyacht.
ust after its extensive sea tr ia ls early last Aug ust, Heesen Yacht’s Laurentia was f inally delivered to her owner. Formerly known as Project Alida, she bears the signature trademark, muscular yet elegant lines by Omega Architects. Du r i ng her sea t r ia l s, wh ich were held i n the Nor th Sea, 55-metre Laurentia exceeded her contractual speed and reached a top speed of 16.6 knots. The vessel proved to be h ig h ly responsive, accept i ng steer i ng com m a nd s immediately. The use of large rudders in conjunction with a powerful steering unit makes for a ver y quick reaction, as does the high pitch of the propellers. The overall effect instills great conf idence in the captain when maneuvering in strong wind conditions. Laurentia’s Owner appointed Miam i-based design f ir m RADYCA’s President, Ramon Alonso to create an interior that communicated only the luxurious nuances that bef it a superyacht of Laurentia’s make.
“The object ive wa s to create a clea n a nd si mple, yet sophisticated interior that evokes tranquility in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere,” comments Alonso. A consistent use of neutral hues is found in open-grain white oak and different tones of wengé, taupe and grey leathers, wool carpets, and light textured suedes. White Arabescato and Grecale brown marble slabs emphasize the purity of the design. The loose furniture was carefully selected from various E u r o p e a n a nd A me r ic a n br a nd s a nd e a ch pie ce w a s customized to f it perfectly and adapt to the interior scheme. Hand-stitched leather panels and accents play in contrast with the light suedes and dark wengé wood in dif ferent tones and f inishes. While more details to the super yachts m a ke a re of cou r se con f ident ia l to respect Lau rent ia’s Owner’s privacy, we can only imagine how grand her overall experience might be, seeing as Heesen Yachts are the current stalwarts of superyacht building and solutions.
