Electricity

All of Albania’s electricity is produced by one state-owned electric power company; The Albanian Power Corporation (KESH) (www.kesh.com.al). The distribution division of this company is currently available for privatization. In 2005 the total supply of electric power increased by 5.4 percent compared with 2004. The quantity of supplies attained 6,705 GWh. The domestic electric power production in 2005 was 81.3 percent of the total supply. A new Thermal Power Plant in Vlora is expected to join the current electric power system in 2007. Once it begins operations, total domestic power production will increase by 20%. Investments in hydropower are strongly encouraged in order to increase electric power production 40-50% by 2010.
