Gaga’s Alejandro video: homage to Madonna or another blatant rip off? The third music video from The Fame Monster album (directed by Steven Klein) has Gaga’s fans crowning her with another genius achievement, while others are screaming rip off. Steven Klein is famous for some of Madonna’s most iconic photo shoots including her X-Static Process series which the “Alejandro” music video coincidentally heavily resembles. Is Gaga simply paying homage to the Queen of Pop or taking what worked before and trying to make it her own? Brandon Flowers’ Flamingo Every since the Thin White Duke remix of “Mr. Brightside,” I have long thought that The Killers should release an electronicdance album. Now comes news that Stuart Price (of Thin White Duke and Madonna’s Confessions On A Dancefloor fame) will be producing some of lead singer Brandon Flowers’ upcoming solo album called Flamingo. Here’s hoping there’s more dance tinge to the rest of the project than the first single “Crossroads.” An “X” on X-Tina Every pop diva inevitably becomes the go-to-girl at some point in time to be torn apart by the media. Mariah did with Glitter. Britney did with Blackout. Janet did with Damita Jo. Christina Aguilera is the latest songstress to be enduring the onslaught of negative press (mainly from blogger Perez Hilton) given underwhelming album and song sales. Despite the disappointing returns, X-Tina’s latest Bionic album offers some of the singer’s best songs to date. Check out “I Am” and “Elastic Girl” off the new album.

s it just me, or does casting Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp opposite each other create zero chemistry? I recently saw photos of the two together on the set of The Tourist, filmed in Venice Italyone of the most romantic cities in the world – and all I could think of was, ‘dude, I’m not buyin’ it.’ Depp reminded me of the scruffy, trench-coated actor Peter Faulk in old Columbo re-runs, while Angelina seemed to be starring in an entirely different movie… playing sort of a Sophia Loren type. I will be anxious to see if I am wrong, but I’ll bet Angie won’t be running off with this male co-star once the film wraps.

hen Lamar Odom and his victorious Lakers reached the locker room to celebrate their recent NBA win, the 6’10’’ forward shouted, “I’m going to Disneyland!”
Actually… he did not. He said he was taking his sexy wife Khloe Kardashian on a delayed honeymoon trip to Cabo San Lucas. He also revealed how desperate they were to spend a little quality time together away from the prying eyes of the public. After all, when are Lamar and Khloe not in the public eye? Between millions of fans watching his every move on the court, and millions of her fans watching her every move on Keeping up with the Kardashians and Kourtney and Khloe take Miami, the poor kids need a few private moments, right? Wait… this just in… sources tell me the Odem’s are currently shopping their OWN reality show, which means that in the future we’ll get an even bigger peek into their private lives. La Rue and her Italian fiancé, Joe Cappuccio - who literally sleeps with the fishes, because he’s a seafood businessman- were planning to wed atop elephants somewhere in Thailand, but that just didn’t work out. Instead, like Lamar and Khloe, they are headed for Mexico. (Gee, I hope they don’t run into each other and take a bite out of Khloe and Lamar’s alone time.) Anyway, to celebrate the upcoming nuptials, Eva’s pals threw her a mani – pedi party at a local spa so all the girls could be pampered. And while I’d say that sounds like a fun afternoon of the ladies getting together, the fact they served Margarita’s and Tequila shots sounds even better! I’m talking about the Bachelor and the Bachelorette, Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi who were engaged for all of what… three minutes? Seems the former Hooters waitress- who spent four years engaged to her pastor’s son – when she was 13 – (OMG! isn’t that called statutory something or other?) just couldn’t see herself married to 32 year old Jake, so she called off the wedding. And although she pulled the plug on marriage – sources say she is still wearing the $50,000 princess cut, Neil Lane diamond engagement ring. Problem is, I am also told, if the wedding is off, the network says she has to give it back! Wonder if the show’s producers will get in a heap of trouble if they are forced to take the finger with the ring… hey, it’s Hollywood, so it could make for a really interesting epilogue.

ou gotta know the pressure is on for another bachelor, Prince Albert II of Monaco, to produce an heir. The 52 year old Prince just got engaged to 32 year old Charlene Wittstock, a former Olympic swimmer, and although the two have been ‘dating,’ for more than four years, I guess it took him that long to make up his mind. Or was it a new law, put into effect in 2002, which states if he doesn’t manage to produce an heir, the throne would go to one of his two sister’s two boys. Al does have two children of his own– one being a boy - but I’m told because they were born out of wedlock, they aren’t eligible to inherit the throne. So, I’m not saying poor Charlene is under any pressure, but she might want to hurry up and start thinking blue.

Many in Tampa, Florida say that the Taco Bus has the best Mexican street food in town. Owner Rene Valenzuela brings the flavors of Yucatan, Mexico City, Sinaloa, Puebla Mexico served in the true “mobile” lunch truck fashion. While the menu isn’t huge, it is packed with what is aptly characterized as Mexican street food: Tacos, Tostadas, Burritos and Tortas– all with a choice of Carne Asada, Baracoa, Puerco Asada and Lengua (beef tongue). Our tostadas and tacos were both topped with machengo cheese and pickled onions–a much improved version of its usual raw counterpart. Salsas at the Taco Bus are fresh and tangy – but watch out for the HOT green tomatillo and jalapeño salsa. Opened 24/7 with prices ranging from $2.50 to $3, the Taco Bus wins my vote for the best place for a family dinner or the late-night munchies. Taco Bus also has two other locations. The sign outside the Taco Bus says “broken English perfectly spoken,” but in my opinion, translation of any kind is unnecessary, everything is just plain delicious! Stylish, yet unconventional, the Funky Monkey café offers a fresh approach to the downtown dining – wine experience in a relaxed, yet refined environment. Daily standards like the Drunken Jumbo Sea Scallops with Maine lobster mashed potatoes and a micro-brew sauce are well worth your attention. The Monkey scores extra points in my opinion by serving local, organic, free-range beef and chicken in their menu selections. Winners of 2 “OpenTable.com Diner’s Choice 2010 Awards,” my favorite dish was a simple starter called “truffle salted fries.” A delightful mixture of blue cheese crumbles, truffle salt, creamy aioli dipping sauce with crispy French fried potatoes; it was hard to eat just one of these delightful treats. Overall, their prices seem fair for the highquality experience. My only negative comment would be that they should carry at least a few “mainstream” beers. On Friday’s, the Pointe Orlando location hosts a spectacular female impersonation show. Regardless of which location of the Monkey you choose, I would say it’s a great place for groups or couples as long as you don't mind a lively time on the weekends.

In the mood for breakfast on a Saturday afternoon, I had the Country Griddle which was filling, tasty and abundant. The hot meatloaf sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries always hits the spot. North Miami City Commissioner Scott Galvin to run for US Congress
Florida Together, an LGBT community action group based in Florida, announced its support for candidate Scott Galvin to the U.S. Congress on June 15. Scott Galvin is running for the open seat for U.S. Congressional District 17. If elected, Scott Galvin would be the first openly gay member of Congress from Florida and the third openly gay man elected to Congress. Galvin is a City Commissioner for North Miami, Florida; and was first elected in 1999. Galvin’s roots in community involvement stem from his time in the classroom of the Dade County school system. Today, Scott is Vice-President of Education for the non-profit Junior Achievement of Greater Miami and serves on the Board of the Florida Marlins Foundation; as well as the largest provide of HIV/AIDS healthcare, the international Board of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
pass an ordinance that required vendors that do business with the city to provide domestic partner benefits to their employees. This ordinance helped set an example for other cities in Florida. Some of the other candidates in this race have expressed support for some pro-LGBT positions or bills in the past. However, those in the political know seem to think that Scott Galvin represents the best chance of electing the first openly LGBT member of Congress from Florida. Galvin has already received the endorsement of openly gay Congressman Jared Polis of Colorado; and as of June 15, 2010; the endorsement of Florida Together. For the record, Florida Together does not automatically support candidates just because they are LGBT. Scott Galvin has proven himself to be viable and a strong advocate for equality. If provided adequate support, he has a strong chance of winning. Galvin was quoted as saying, "I am delighted and humbled to have the support of Florida Together. I am thrilled at their pioneering leadership in recognizing this truly unique opportunity not just for Florida but for the nation."
While on the North Miami City Commission, Galvin worked successfully to

Florida Governor Charlie Crist Vetoes House Bill 1143 Thanks to the numerous phone calls, letters and emails from the LGBT community (and many others in opposition of this Bill). Governor Charlie Crist has vetoed the controversial House Bill, HB 1143. This bill was touted as an “anti-women’s rights” bill because it was slated to make it mandatory for any woman in the State of Florida seeking an abortion to submit to an ultrasound first. The Governor has been quoted as saying: “HB 1143 places an inappropriate burden on women seeking to terminate a pregnancy. Individuals hold strong personal views on the issues of life, as do I. OMG 32
However, personal views should not result in laws that unwisely expand the role of government and coerce people to obtain medical tests or procedures that are not medically necessary. In this case, such action would violate a women’s right to privacy.” Equality Florida’s figures indicate that over 2,300 of their members alone reached out to the Governor’s office over this controversial piece of legislation. That’s just the beginning of Equality Florida’s actions in the LGBT community. For the first time in Florida political history, every single statewide office is an open seat; the Governor, the State Senate and the entire Florida Cabinet are up for grabs. This will be a huge election year for Florida
California's Gay-Marriage Battle Heads for the Judge One of the most important — and contentious — civil rights trials in a generation comes to a close June 16, 2010 in a San Francisco courtroom. Lawyers for two gay couples attempt to persuade a federal judge to be the first to rule that the U.S. Constitution guarantees gays and lesbians the right to marry. Their opponents, backed by many of the most powerful religious voices in America, will argue that Californians got it right in 2008 when they voted to make gay marriage unconstitutional in their state. San Francisco Superior Court Judge Vaughn Walker presided over the closing arguments in the legal battle over California's law against same-sex marriage on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Walker began the session with a declaration to audience members that he was “delighted to have everyone back [in his courtroom to resolve Prop 8]. Obviously the hiatus that followed the presentation of all evidence till now is not anything that I would have wished or hoped for. I was hoping that we could get this case in before the present. But it may be appropriate that the case is coming to closing argument now. June is, after all, the month for weddings.” After hearing those comments, the general feeling in the overflow room was one of relief. The whole room gasped, which reaffirmed that they did in fact hear what they thought they had heard. Was Judge Walker giving the LGBT population the sign that he was leaning towards repealing Proposition 8? The stakes couldn't be higher for gay couples in California who argue that the referendum that approved what is popularly known as Prop 8 violated their most fundamental right and has rendered them second-class citizens. Meanwhile, defenders of Prop 8 fear that a judgment against them will diminish the role of the traditional family — man, woman and their offspring — as the basic cornerstone of society.
Proposition 8 adds language to the California constitution that expressly limits marriage to the union of one man and one woman. The interesting thing about the closing arguments is that they happened on June 16, a date which happens to be the twoyear anniversary for the first same-sex couples who legally married in California. Was this a sign that same-sex marriage would soon be legal again in the State of California? Defense attorney Ted Olsen, a former U.S. Solicitor General and Republican stalwart shocked his fellow conservatives with his response to the defendants’ long history of heterosexual marriages. He said, “We have always done it that way is a corollary to the ‘because I say so.’ It's not a reason. You can't have constitutional discrimination in public schools because you have always done it that way.” A ruling by Walker in favor of the two gay couples could pave the way for the legalization of gay marriage throughout the U.S. — or it could have a much more limited impact. For instance, Walker could rule against Prop 8 without giving gay marriage any strong constitutional protections. He could say the ballot initiative was simply too arbitrary in taking back rights the California Supreme Court had already granted to gay couples there. The question of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) really plays no bearing in this case because there is no federal defendant involved. However, Walker will face conflicting pressures when deciding how broad to make his ruling. With the closing arguments, the arguing in this trial will be essentially over. But consider it a mere respite. Soon enough, there'll be a verdict to argue about — and a new set of court dates.

#1: At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill Mind you, any of the Top 5 are interchangeable and each merit #1 as an alltime Buddy favorite, but At Swim, Two Boys gets the nod this issue. This was ten years in the making and created much buzz and high praise when it was released in England and Ireland. O'Neill tells of the love story of two boys: Jim, a naive and lonesome schoolboy and Doyler, the dark and worldlier son of the town drunk. Set against the background of the Easter Uprising in Dublin in 1916, some will find the reading initially a bit tough. Be patient. Like a swimmer, you soon will get into its flow and the payoff is worth any difficulty the first twenty pages or so may offer. It is a massive, sweeping novel that when finished, I began at the beginning for another read. #2: A Map of the Harbor Islands by J.G. Hayes It seems likely that the author has been influenced by At Swim, Two Boys as this novel may be the American version of that story. The story is set in an aging Irish neighborhood of contemporary South Boston and documents the friendship between two working class boys Petey and Danny. Petey is the golden boy of the neighborhood, star athlete and student, while Danny, his "bestest of friend" plays the more conventional role. A lyrical coming of age story of friendship, loyalty and a love story, I have not read a novel that has stuck with me the way this has. This story that is not just a testament to gay love, but it is more so an ode to something more profound; a richer friendship. There is a saying in South Boston about loyalty and how you stick and protect your own. Danny and Petey do just that. They serve as each other's personal heroes as they come of age and find their paths in life-and inevitably back to one another. Ok, maybe this should be #1. #3: The Charioteer by Mary Renault The author best known for her historical novels set in ancient Greece (see #4), sets this story in WWII period. Laurie Odell, a young gay serviceman, wounded at Dunkirk, is recovering at an army hospital in rural England. While there, he meets young Andrew and their friendship blooms into a chaste romance. A mentor of Laurie’s from prep school enters the story and Laurie must choose, like the argument from Plato's Phaedrus, between friendship and desire. The book was published in 1953, but could not be published in America until 1959 after her book The Last of the Wine demonstrated that gay subject matter had an audience. #4: Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault The first of her trilogy on Alexander the Great begins with Alexander's childhood through age 20 when he becomes King after his father King Philip is assassinated. The heart of the story is the relationship that begins at age 13 when he meets his life-long companion Hephaestion. At age 15, the inseparable pair becomes intimate. Renault's scrupulous depiction and descriptions of life in ancient Greece has no equal. The book was a finalist for the Booker Prize. The Persian Boy and Funeral Games are the 2nd and 3rd of the trilogy. OMG 38
#5: Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin Published in 1959, Giovanni’s Room follows David, a young American whose girlfriend is off in Spain and he is left alone in Paris. David begins a relationship with Giovanni, a young Italian. The entire story is narrated by David during "the night which is leading me to most terrible morning of my life", when Giovanni is executed. A haunting story, Giovanni’s Room will stay with you for a very long time. I very highly recommend this novel to anyone. #6: Finistere by Fritz Peters Another novel set in Europe and written in the fifties (1951), Fritz Peters tells a coming of age story about a 16 year old American who moves to France with his mother. This was one of the earliest explicit gay novels that offers a sympathetic portrayal of gay characters and offers a glimpse of what is was like to come of age fifty years ago. For its time, Finistere was a surprisingly wellreceived book. #7: Maurice by E.M. Forster Forster wrote Maurice in 1914(!). However, it was not published at the author's request until after his death in 1979. I had seen the Merchant Ivory produced film of Maurice which led me to read the novel. The film was excellent and often is the case, the book is even better. It is a tragic reflection of Forster's own life of closeted homosexuality when it was illegal to be gay in Britain. If many gay novels tend to have a tragic ending, Forster was determined for this heartwarming story to end otherwise. Maurice is another highly recommended choice for your summer reading.
#8: While England Sleeps by David Leavitt Author David Leavitt seems to have been heavily influenced by Maurice as this is that book only set twenty years later in classrigid England. The difference is while Maurice ends on a hopeful note, this story may have a more realistic tale to tell. #9: The Bitterweed Path by Thomas Hal Philips Yet another book from the 1950's, again written in a time when "gay love" did not exist, but male love did. After publication, it fairly went out of print and was nearly forgotten until it was luckily re-discovered in 1996. The story is set in post Civil War Mississippi and is a sensitive and haunting tale of love between two youths growing up in the rural south. The Bitterweed Path is another narrative where the characters remain with you for a long time after reading. #10: The City and the Pillar by Gore Vidal Since I seem to be fixated on books from the near-ancient past, I will finish this list with Vidal's first and only gay novel which created a sensation of sorts in 1948 to mostly favorable if cautious reviews. The story begins with Jim, the all-American boy, having a passionate encounter with his high school best friend Bob the night before he leaves for his adventures "on the sea." Thus begins a near-obsession as Jim begins his odyssey to find love and reunite with his other half, Bob Ford. The book paints a dark picture of one aspect of gay life and the emptiness and loneliness which pervades this story. It tries to paint a fine balance between pleasure cruising and sober longing. The faint-hearted may want to stick with E.M. Forster’s Maurice.

CALM YOUR
BODY, EASE
YOUR MIND!
S
tress is to blame for all our aches and pains (not to mention our bad moods). Most of us accept it as a part of our everyday lives. While you may not be able to avoid stress completely, you can learn to deal with it much more successfully. In this edition of Mind Body Spirit, I am going to offers some tips and techniques to help reduce the amount of stress in your life and cope better with the stress you can’t change in your life. I will offer tips to soothe and subdue your body and mind, as well as some ideas for on-the spot stress relief. Often times we think that stress is unavoidable. This is not true. Statistics indicate that over 1/3 of all sick-leave from work is blamed on stress.
Exercise also releases endorphins. To quote my dear friend Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, “endorphins make you feel good.” These naturally occurring pain-relieving hormones provide the body with a similar effect as you would get from heroin and morphine. Hence a reason while these drugs are so addictive. So endorphins can help change your perspective on life. Another great factor about exercising to cope with stress is that you release tension, burn up excess energy and exhaust your body which virtually guarantees yourself a better night’s sleep.
Yet there is a big difference regarding people’s perception of stress. Stress really means any form of dis-stress in the body. Stress has more to do with one’s reaction to a situation as opposed to the situation itself. Stress affects the mind and the body. Under stressful situations, you may experience quickness in your breathing, tension in your muscles as well as body sweats. All of these actions are simply the result of your body reacting to the situation at hand. This is part of the “fight or flight” response mechanism which is a part of your autonomic nervous system. A little stress can be a good thing.
Be sure not to neglect your senses in a time of stress. Focus on your 5 senses by: (1) Exposing yourself to sunlight for at least one hour everyday. (2) Listen to Mother Nature. The sounds of nature are quite soothing: be it a babbling brook, waves of the ocean or the rustling of the wind in the trees. (3) Treat yourself to taste: make meals pleasurable by eating at a table as opposed to in front of the TV, so you can focus on the taste of the meal. (4) Tune into your sense of touch. So many of us are touch deprived and long desperately for something as simple as a daily hug. (5) Smell a scent that soothes. Choose flowers for your home or office by how much their scent appeals to you. Lavender is a very soothing bloom.
You are more likely to pass an exam when you’re anxious about doing well. Chronic stress, on the other hand can do you great harm. To reduce your stress long term, you need to not only slow your life down, but change how you respond to stressful situations. So here are a few suggestions that can help calm your body and ease your mind: Probably the easiest and quickest way to deal with stress is by exercising. Exercise not only helps you cope with current stress, but it also protects you from stressful situations in the future. In* stressful times, the body needs high strength reserves to cope with conflict. The best way to build up these reserves is by becoming fitter and healthier. OMG 40
A repetitive theme in many of my recent MBS articles has focused on food. Good nutrition is essential in times of stress. Be sure to replenish your body’s supply of Vitamins B, C and Zinc. Fill up on green vegetables, fruits, whole grain cereals, nuts and seeds for vitamin B. Fresh citrus fruits are always good for vitamin C; and fresh dairy, red meats and shellfish for zinc.
One last suggestion for this edition of MBS is to talk about color and stress. Research indicates that the seven main energy centers (or chakras) in the human body respond directly to color. It is best to keep your surroundings calm, even when you are not. Color shades such as blues and greens are believed to help lower blood pressure and reduce the heart rate. Pick accessories for your work space that induce relaxation and tranquility. Most importantly, avoid the color red which is the color of speed. The overall goal of this article is help make your day a far more peaceful one. Another way to help eliminate stress and be at peace is to connect your mind and body is through Massage Therapy. t must be hard to be a pop star these days. Milk expires fast, but pop stars are expiring faster. One year’s icon is the next year’s obscurity. America has always loved to see people fall from grace but a cycle that used to span decades is now condensed to months. I’ll put my life savings on the table if anyone wants to make a bet regarding Ke$ha’s career longevity. The latest victim of the pop jaws of death is Christina Aguilera. After a four year absence, Xtina has returned with an album that made headlines for not selling very well. While “Bionic” isn’t nearly as bad as critics (and sales figures) would lead you to believe, it’s interesting to watch the public’s herd mentality slaughter Aguilera’s integrity. Upon a close listen “Bionic” actually reveals itself to be a daring (and perhaps slightly uneven) effort. One must question her record company’s choice of singles. Both “Not Myself Tonight” and “Woo Hoo” prove to be the album’s weakest and most dated moments. Had the collaborations with Ladytron and MIA been chosen as lead singles, perhaps the mass public would have received the album with more warmth.
One point of contention among the Aguilera haters is the accusation that she is trying to mimic the persona of the younger Lady Gaga. While browsing Christina’s career portfolio, these claims hold little water. Christina Aguilera has always been a bit daring with her fashion. It’s unfair and cruel to diminish this now-veteran pop singer to the role of mere copy cat. It is interesting to witness the role reversal that is now occurring in the pop arena. For years, people have claimed that young artists were just trying to ape their elders. When Madonna came out many people called her “the new Deborah Harry." Only in this new generation of pop are older performers being accused of copying the ones they influenced. It wasn’t like this before. Not once when she tried to make a comeback was Debbie Harry ever accused of trying to be like Madonna! Pop music will always bear the influence of the generations before it. Rihanna has shades of Grace Jones. Beyonce has shades of Tina Turner. Lady Gaga was obviously influenced by Madonna. I hope it is not a new trend to discredit established pop stars by accusing them of trying to be younger performers. If this is the case, Gwen Stefani is going to have a rude awakening the next time she releases new music. Will Gwen be accused to trying to be like Ke$ha? It will be interesting to see the direction pop takes in the next few years. Until Gwen comes out with her next album, at least we’re able to enjoy the new Madonna – er, Lady Gaga video “Alejandro.”

Hey Yawl, Congratulations and Happy Anniversary to OMG! Magazine. I’m so delighted to be associated with OMG! whom I consider to be Florida’s best gay publication. What I love most about OMG! Magazine is its incredible investment in the community which it serves. OMG! Magazine accurately features gay establishments, events, people and places in a unique way that captures the pulse of what’s happening in the sunshine state and all over the U.S. As a part of OMG! Magazine’s continued commitment to excellence; the magazine has sponsored several launch parties throughout Florida in an effort to become more visible to its readers. One such party was Orlando’s OMG! Magazine Red Ball, held at the Parliament House in Orlando, Florida last February. Their hands-on dedication to this event made a huge splash in the City Beautiful, quickly singling OMG! Magazine as a viable force in the Orlando’s gay magazine market. In creating this successful event, The Parliament House and I were honored to work with publisher James Clarke and his incredible staff. I look forward to next year’s blowout party. Again, Happy Anniversary OMG! Magazine. I wish you continued success and prosperity! Now that Gay Days 2010 is behind us, the city is gearing up for Orlando Gay Pride on October 8 – 10, 2010. It’s always an exciting time when Orlando’s gay community pulls out all the stops. It’s also a time when we see which of our local politicians visibly supports the gay community. Of course there’s Orlando City Commissioners, Patti Sheehan and Daisy Lynum, who are both huge supporters of Orlando’s gay community. Will we be fortunate to see the honorable Mayor Buddy Dyer openly support Orlando Pride? Or will he send another low level representative such as he did at the Orlando AIDS Walk 2010 who only read a well crafted script at the pride rally? Hum. I personally think the Mayor should ride in the Pride Parade at least once while in office. It would speak volumes that the Mayor supports Orlando and ALL OF ITS CITIZENS. Will he ride or show up for his year’s Pride Parade? We shall see and I’ll keep you posted. Facebook.com! As you may know, I’m a huge Facebook junky. Why? Because it has allowed me to be connected with past friends, family members and to reach out to new friends.
It also keeps me well informed as to what’s happening in the City Beautiful. Recently, I received a post on my profile page that was disrespectful and darn right SHADY. To use a social network to spread unfounded accusations about my close friends is not kewl and quite frankly, cowardly. Now, I know you’re wondering who this person is and what exactly was posted, right? As much as I want to out this bastard by disclosing his name, in doing so it would make me no less than him. If his intent was to hurt my friends, he did but only for a brief moment. This whole ordeal revealed how strong of a bond the Orlando gay community has when it comes to dismissing such shenanigans. In support of my friends, Facebook members bombarded my page within minutes which goes to show, when you f**k with my personal friends, you f**k with too much! To that person who shall remain nameless, I kind of feel sorry for you. Life must have dealt you a really hard blow if the only way you can feel good about yourself was to belittle another. Shame, shame, shame! THE FOXX IS BACK! Sierrah Foxx, a former Miss National At Large, Miss FL USA at Large, Miss FL at Large and Miss FL Continental Plus is back on the scene. After overcoming five trying months, she is back. Beautiful, strong, energetic, talented, and talking lots of shit, Sierrah Foxx can be seen at the Parliament House and other establishments throughout Florida, Georgia and Alabama. To catch the amazing Sierrah Foxx in action, check out Youtube.com. (Parliament House Sierrah Foxx) Finally, who’s hot in Orlando? Jeanine Kline, wow, what a voice. Doug Bowser; actor comedian. Sassy Devine; Miss Metropolitan Continental 2010. Cindy B.; Revolutions Night Club Manager. Sierrah Foxx; entertainer and friend. Kristopher Reynolds; photographer extraordinaire. Roxxy Andrews; Miss Continental Plus. Jamie Beverly; Orlando Sister of the Perpetual Indulgence and soon to be renamed Sister Katrina Vanessa Maria Stolichnaya Absoluta Vodka. Alexis Mateo; entertainer. Kennedy Davenport; entertainer and Miss Parliament House 2010. Ron; Owner Pulse Night Club and Orlando’s all around good guy. Blue; entertainer and awesome visionary. OMG, what the hell happened to this year? It’s already the 4th Of July. Time for your MyFlexRadio.com summertime festivities Hot Trax Checklist. You may be refreshing on vacation, floating in a pool, hitting the beach, patio partying, cooking something delicious, road tripping or on the way to the clubs. Either way, we’ve got you covered. Plug us into your party and we’ll deliver the “music meat” for whatever you may want to dish up. “Pop Goes The World” by Gossip GLBT Music Activitsts and True Colors Tour veterans Gossip are back with a massive Gustavo Scorpio remix of “Pop Goes The World.” Lead singer Beth Ditto nails the vocals on this track from their 2009 album Music For Men. Think Siouxsie and the Banshees get divafied and do a circuit track. Smoking Hot! Blast this one at the pool boys! “Fuerte” by Nelly Furtado Nelly’s a busy lady with a new solo album called Lifestyle out this summer, a tour and this first single that loosely translates to “Strong.” The hot Xena-style haircut of “Say It Right” is gone, but I still adore her vocals. We’re treated to a remix package that includes Twisted Dee, Cajjmere Wray and Masi And De Leon with both English and Spanglish mixes. It’s a postbreakup party anthem that’s destined to be universal. “I Like It (Cahill Club Mix)” by Enrique Iglesias Commercial monster summer anthem! Enrique teams up with RedOne, Pitbull and even Lionel Richie for a bubbly ride that will make you smile. Instantly infectious and non-threatening, it samples Richie’s hit “All Night Long.” With lyrics like “Party,” “Karamu,” “Fiesta, Forever” and Enrique’s smooth delivery, you can’t go wrong. He doesn’t look too bad doing it either. It’s the lead single off his upcoming album Euphoria and the Jersey Shore Soundtrack. Cahill provides the current Circuit mix of choice. Enjoy! “Strobelight” by Kimberly Locke The American Idol gal returns with a single and album focused squarely on the gay dance community. On “Strobelight,” she invents a wickedly-fun time machine for a retro throwback to the 70’s and 80’s. Trust me, I remember those days and this song is freaking me out. The Tony Moran remix keeps it from getting too cheesy. Prepare yourself to see this performed by every queen who does a flashback party from now on. Thanks for turning it up with MyFlexRadio.com. LACK & WHITE is what I am calling this very special installment of FYI. Not so long ago, I saw where someone on Facebook was posting great photos of the many female impersonators that have quit, passed away or still going strong. I am now 52 years old, still entertaining and still going strong alongside other big personalities: Frank Marino, April Summers, Stephanie Shippae, Lady Bunny and Hurricane Summers. In this issue, I would like to spotlight and honor three entertainers who have all passed on. Internationally known, Miss P was a class-act comedian, actor and host. She was very involved in the theater as well. The world famous Parliament House in Orlando, Florida was her home and a home she created for many. We became good friends in the last years of her life, and I can’t help but think of her very often. Chanaile Solitaire was another entertainer who was so loved. More known in Central and North Florida, Chanaile was known for doing Patti LaBelle & Tina Turner impersonations. She worked for me at my store a few years before losing her battle with cancer. The final entertainer was one of the finest people I had ever known. When I made Florida my home and came to work at the P-House, Dana Manchester helped shape me into a better seasoned performer. Even though South Florida was her main home, she became internationally known as The First Lady of Florida. Live singer and entertainer extraordinaire, Dana touched many lives before losing her own life early in her 40’s. These three performers are very much missed and should not be forgotten. They were all unique, talented and very special in their own way. These wonderful and gifted entertainers of what I like to call the “Black & White Era of Female Impersonation” should always be paid tribute to and remembered.
On another note, Father’s Day was never much around my house. My father was a person I would have liked to have known better. He was very easy on the eyes, a mountain man and an amazing country singer. He was married many times and never truly accepted my lifestyle. At the age of 17, I was thrown out of my house and banished from my family. My mother, a comic personality with great looks passed at the young age of 43 due to breast cancer. I remember singing in honky tonks with my dad when I was a teenager. I never got to share with him that I was an entertainer and wish that I could have. We came from different times, culture and ways of thinking. I do feel young people have a great advantage and hope they do get to know and are able to freely share their lives with their fathers. Till Next Time,

THE LETTER P S
ome of my readers who are brand new parents probably cannot help but think of creating those memories of taking their child to an amusement park for the first time, photographing them taking their first steps or changing their first diaper. Then we all forget about the other parts of being a first-time parent: baby’s first teething, all night crying sessions and of course potty training. Yes, oh snap the potty training. I’m not a parent but I hear between the stories from some of my family and friends who are single mothers doing everything they can to raise their child. One of the stories I thought would be funny to share is of my friend Jose’s first son named Jay. Jose’s son is potty trained. One day, they decided to go on a road trip with Jose’s friend. It was rainy out and 30 degrees. The traffic was bumper to bumper due to a car accident up the road, so Jose’s car was at a complete standstill. Nearly an hour went by and Jay exclaimed, “Daddy, I really have to go to the bathroom.” Like I stated, the traffic was at a complete stop and the nearest exit was quite a distance ahead of the traffic accident.
Jose kept telling Jay to wait, to hold it, to be patient because there was nothing he could do to make the traffic move. “Daddy I really have to go!” cried Jay. After various pleas of needing to use the bathroom, Jose’s friend asked, “Jose, why don’t you just let him pee in the empty cup up here and I’ll just toss it out the window when he’s done?” Jose gave in, handed his son the cup to pee in and well… lil’ Jay filled that cup up three times over. LOL! When it comes to potty training, my sister had a simple solution that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at while thinking how creative a solution it really is. First-time mothers usually find difficulty in potty training their little boys. My sister said the best way to help little boys potty train is to throw cheerios in a toilet bowl and have them aim their urine stream to the middle. This becomes a little game to them and sometimes parents can offer prizes to help them get in the groove of using the toilet. Ah, if all of life’s solutions couldn’t be as easy as using Cheerios!

egas! Vegas! Las Vegas! Where do I even begin? The city of sin was just too much. This was my very first time in ol’ Las Vegas and boy was it a trip! I arrived midday to beautiful skies and just fabulous weather. Upon first arriving, the very first thing I desperately wanted was a frozen margarita and to then jump into the glamorous pool at my hotel, The Palazzo. I checked in to my hotel after a horrendous wait due to the long line and proceeded thorough the expansive, soaring lobby. The first thing that you notice when in Vegas is the people. Every sort of person goes to Las Vegas. Stereotypical fat Americans who seem to travel in hordes of five or more, sexy blonde ladies from Los Angeles, tall Scandinavians in short shorts, loud and excited family-reunion groups… it’s all there! Las Vegas truly has everything for everyone. I must add that I observed (in my thorough investigative mode, of course) a ton of hunky straight guys in basketball shorts with bulges bouncing everywhere. Again, Vegas was too much. The casino at the Palazzo is huge and looks straight out of the scene of a movie. The sounds of winners, losers, dealers announcing results and clanging bells from the slot machines fill the gigantic space. It’s enoug to get you in the mood to win (or lose your) money. Who comes to Vegas to lounge around their room and watch television? If you are at the Palazzo, you might be thoroughly tempted. The Palazzo is huge, dressed in dark, masculine woods and dramatic dimming lights. The bed was large with a tufted
chocolate-brown headboard, bendable bedside lights, three down-filled pillows and the softest of the softest bed linens. At the corner of the suite (all rooms here are "suites"); there was a large sectional couch that converted into another bed. There were 3 television sets including one in the bathroom. The view from my room overlooked one of five pools. The largest of the pools was my first stop, mainly because of its large bar that was seducing me. After my first sip from my extra-large frozen margarita, I eased into a lounge chair, closed my eyes and started plotting my Sin City adventures.
What to do? Gamble, of course. BEWARE though since this is a highly addictive sport that will more than likely end in some sort of despair. Yours truly won $60 the first time he ever handled a slot machine. I saw a group of older mid-western women huddled at a corner of the casino congratulating a jackpot winner in their group. All had on bright yellow "Gail's 60th in Vegas! What Happens Stays Here" t-shirts. I went over to their winning slot machine, slid in a $5 dollar bill and pulled down the lever. I couldn't believe it, the dials stopped and all I knew was that I had won something. Bells went off and I saw numbers ticking up. I immediately hit the cash your winnings button and ended up with a $65 voucher. I was done.

In the mid to late 1990’s, music artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Jewel and Paula Cole ruled the MTV and radio airwaves helping to make the Lilith Fair concert the hottest ticket in town. Both TIME and Entertainment Weekly magazine devoted cover stories to the star-studded music festival that only featured female singers and musicians. After an 11-year hiatus, Lilith Fair is back with a 35-city tour featuring founder Sarah McLachlan, veteran Lilith staples Sheryl Crow and Chantal Kreviazuk, newer additions Norah Jones and Kelly Clarkson along with today’s it-girls Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Ke$ha. (Check lilithfair.com for dates and ticket information.) Sarah McLachlan’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (1994) Before Surfacing became a worldwide juggernaut smash, Sarah McLachlan released the successful Fumbling Towards Ecstasy album featuring an electronicethereal style of music the songstress has since long abandoned. Album classics such as “Possession” and “Fear” are still audience favorites during her live sets today. The album’s songs were reworked into the pop standard style listeners are more familiar with on 1995’s The Freedom Sessions live album, but Fumbling Towards Ecstasy remains the shining jewel in McLachlan’s catalogue. Mary J. Blige’s What’s The 411? (1992) The Queen of Hip-Hop’s debut album instantly became a chart-topping smash thanks to the album’s three lead hit singles. Critics drew comparisons to Anita Baker and Chaka Kahn while her live performances helped solidify Blige’s reputation as one of the newer generation’s strongest singers. Bonus points for being one of Diddy’s first producing efforts. Standout tracks: “Real Love,” “Love No Limit” and “Sweet Thing”
