5. VIP PHOTOTHERAPY AND FOTONYX

VIP phototherpay = visible incoherent polarized light Fotonyx = quasi monochromatic polarized light


VIP phototherapy acronym from English: visible incoherent polarised light therapy Light sources sending a beam of polarized, but not focused. Simplified application to larger area. This type of phototherapy uses the biolamp, which is shortcut for biostimulation lamp


Historical Overview (1) 80th Zepter biolamps (Switzerland), Bio-V (Czech) halogen bulbs used for polychromatic lightemission, polarization by reflection, fan cooled Advantages: access for home care (no eye damage) Disadvantages: polarization by reflection has low efficiency, polychromatic light consists from antagonist components (e.g. red spectrum has stimulation effect, while the green spectrum is calming)


Historical Overview (2) After 2000: biolamps have a LED light source, linear polarization more than 99% efficiency.

Fotonyx method (Biotherapy): quasi-monochromatic polarized light with narrow spectral half-width. Approaches biological effect of biolamps to soft-lasers effect without the risks of laser applications


Light penetration into the skin  An important parameter for therapeutic results: the depth of penetration of light into the tissue and the efficiency of light.  Red polarized light as measured by the Institute of Physics Academy of Sciences has shown that such light penetrates animal tissue to a depth beyond 4.5 cm.

The principle of biolamps 1. Photochemical activation: supplies the necessary activation energy of molecules and accelerate the reaction

(photochemical changes) 2. Cell membrane: polarized light organizes liquid crystal molecules, which affects energy transfer between lipids and proteins 3. Influence to mitochondria within cells, analogy: intracelluar power station


Biolamps effect overview (1) 1. Biostimulation - tissue after polarized irradiation occurs : in the mitochondria increases the ADP to ATP

conversion. Higher ATP supply stimulates higher protein synthesis in endoplazmatic reticulum. 2. Anti-inflammatory - non-specific stimulation of humoral immunity.

Cosmetic Applications (1) Acne - anti-inflammatory and biostimulation effects lead to suppression of inflammatory symptoms of the skin. Prevention of postacne scars. Application of 2-3x daily for 10 minutes. Color Therapy: „color shower“ = alternating red and blue light.


Cosmetic Applications(2) Acne - case report: three-month treatment of acne in 18 y.o. patient


Cosmetic Applications(3) Allergy to cosmetics. Anti-inflammatory and biostimulation effects tend to suppress skin symptoms. Application 2-3times a day for 15 minutes. Colour therapy: anti-allergy spraycolored alternately red and green light.

Cosmetic Applications(5) Antiaging - positive effect to collagen multiplication in dermis, through which the skin becomes firm and elastic with reduced wrinklelines. Gets bright, fresh and smooth look. Applications 1 to 2 times a day for 15 minutes
