Labyrinth,
A Cosmopolitan The tower is a masquerade of metropolitan Auckland, dressed in fashionable edge, portray its potential stance in the global stage. The core built of tradition. stored in tradition, Its inner body invulnerable to the imposing flattery. Culture is a collaboration of modernity and tradition. While modernity and metropolitan is massively pursued, The significance of its origin and history is undesirable to be ignored, It is of good virtue to express this quality.

The journal is a proposal for a bicultural labyrinth staged in the wider global context that responds to the juxtaposition of intensities, emotions and experiences of the East and West in downtown Auckland. It envisages an irrevocable journey of momentous spaces through the manipulation of circulation, activity and fuel. A series of spaces are proposed to portray the importance of belonging, gregariousness and mixing of one’s place in society. While, the ¬¬¬yearning of independence and a room of one’s own is granted with respect. The notion of journey is embedded through a diverse choice of movement. I have created a series of slow and fast circulation as well as an elevator core. The meandering of spaces imposes a different experience for each encounter. Each individual in the same space also experiences differently. The building is a floating lantern hovering over the urban ground and common space. The bulb of activity is wrapped in an eventful circulation that is subtly screened in curtains of bamboo and timber. Reminiscent of a lamp illuminating the dinner table; or a lamp post guiding the pedestrians on the streets, it enlivens the forum of discussion and aromas that is shelved with patisseries and refreshments of all sorts, absorbing all forms of dialogue. The sensual tasting of international flavour play a major role in the design. The notion of the primacy of food is linked with ‘taste’, one of the easiest and most comfortable ways of experiencing diverse cultures. The façade is enveloped in a perforated skin of pure glass to impose a sense of permeability and intimacy with the urban public and the adjacent office buildings. The duality of timber and glass expresses the notion of a modern international jewel of the city while pertaining a traditional core of local New Zealand culture. “To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar is taken for granted.”
