Q1: Hi Celia, well I guess I’ve got to start with, why the Queen Bee of LinkedIn? A1: One of the most difficult things to do today with so much marketing ‘noise’ out there is to stand out from your competition. Seth Godin talks about the ‘Purple Cow’ as something that stands out and is remarkable; having a marketing background I agree and believe that the Queen Bee does just that and is also great branding. Q2: Tell us something about your background and how you got started in business? A2: I came to LinkedIn pretty early on, in 2006, as part of my corporate role, using it as a marketing tool for professional services clients. At the time there was very little education around for LinkedIn, so it was very much teach-yourself. After leaving my corporate life behind me, with LinkedIn growing in popularity, and not wanting to waste my knowledge of it, my perfect business was born.

Q5: Is there anything else that we should be doing with our LinkedIn account? A5: We’ve only just got started! Now you have to build your personal brand, build your credibility and be seen as the expert in your chosen field. After that, I imagine that you will be looking for prospects.

Q3: What would you recommend is the best way to start with LinkedIn?

Q6: What kind of services does Queen Bee offer and who are your usual clientele?

A3: This answer has two parts. Firstly, the key is to know why you want to be on LinkedIn in the first place, as not everyone should be. Secondly, you need a very good professional profile, since, as we all know, first impressions count and nowhere is this truer than with your LinkedIn profile. For example, taking a sales meeting or applying for a new job: your profile will be reviewed.

A6: A LinkedIn account has many parts that its success depends on; I help my clients get the very best out of every area to obtain the best results. I have a wide range of clients from individuals, sole proprietors, SMEs, Heads of schools, to corporations. Q7: Do you have any special offers on at the moment?

Q4: So, once you have decided that you should be on LinkedIn and you have a great profile what comes next?

RESPONDING TO CHILDREN ABOUT SEPARATION/DIVORCE So what do you say when your child asks why you are separating or divorcing? Understandably, you want to be truthful and not lie or be dishonest. Your children may feel very confused and overwhelmed by the different responses they might hear from parents. And they will want to know why you’re no longer together - why wouldn’t they?

They will probably invest of lot of time trying to get to ‘the truth’ so remember there are ‘two sides to every story’ when it comes to separation and that, over time, it’s highly unlikely that both your versions of events or ‘what really happened’ will ever truly match up.

• Be fair to the other parent. Try not to argue, blame or criticise in front of them. Children want to believe both their parents but what if their stories conflict? It’s best if you’re able to agree on an appropriate version without criticisms or accusations. Too much adult or ‘ageinappropriate’ information i.e. affairs, addictions, financial situation, etc. should not be shared. Try to keep this version as neutral as possible otherwise your child will spend their time trying to filter out the essence of ‘the truth’ or will be prone to trying to find someone to blame. They may start distancing themselves – perhaps not believing one parent, or feeling they need to ‘choose’ a version or even, tragically, a parent.

Here are a few helpful tips for parents: • Timing is important. Try to discuss and agree on what you want to tell them in advance. Then pick a safe, familiar and comfortable place and both be available to them afterwards. • Keep it simple. Too much information can be confusing so “less is more”. Focus on giving age-appropriate versions without adult details that might potentially be emotionally damaging.

If, as parents, you can find a common ‘truth’ to offer as a response, there will be less pressure on your child to feel as if they are being asked to ‘take sides’. By not creating two conflicting stories there is less likelihood of creating the kind of environment in which children feel confused, torn and stuck in the middle.

• Reassure them. Tell them it’s ok to feel sad (and angry) and that’s it’s not their fault. • Provide stability. Stick to routines and ‘normalise’ life as much as possible. • Explain ‘unconditional’ parental love. Remind them often how much they are loved.

• Stay positive. Give them hope and let them know that things will improve. Tell them that they will sometimes miss the other parent but that you will always work things out for them.

Thinking about holidays? Many people book their holiday online these days. Whilst it is true that you can get some fantastic deals, fraudsters also take advantage of this. They advertise flights, accommodation and other travel services that are not provided or don’t exist. Often their victims only become aware that they have been scammed when they arrive at an airport or their destination and find no booking has actually been made! The false advertising can be either an entirely fraudulent website or a fraudulent advert posted on a genuine website. Images of the holiday may be used to make the offer appear authentic. However, these could have been copied from anywhere on the internet. Criminals will often ask you to complete the booking away from the site, even offering a further discount for doing so. They may encourage payment by direct bank transfer rather than third party payment services (eg Paypal) as this makes it much harder for you to recover your funds. Fraudsters may even send ‘confirmation’ emails to convince you the booking has been made.

Remarkable young people have been recognised with Rotary Young Citizen Awards.

The accolades celebrate the positive citizenship and responsibilities that are shown by many young people through hard work, inspirational ideas and a determination to help others. Nominated by their local Rotary clubs they received their awards and a cash prize of £500 from BBC TV Presenter Ellie Crisell at the Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland Conference in Torquay on 7th April, 2018. From helping the homeless to clothing children who live in poverty, this year’s young citizens are truly amazing. Below are the stories of just three of the six winners. REBEKAH HINTON Rebekah, 20, was so deeply concerned by the desperate lack of children’s clothing in her community of West Bowling, Bradford, that she set up the Children’s Clothes Bank at the age of 16. With help from a local toddler group and her own school with collections of clothing, she has helped many families from all backgrounds, including refugees. Clothes are sorted and exchanged for vouchers which Rebekah designed, called C2C (child-tochild). The vouchers reach families in need through a network of health visitors, social workers and the local children’s centre. When families come to the clothing bank, they exchange the vouchers for good quality clothes which will keep their children warm and dry. JOSEPH COX Saddened by the growing number of rough sleepers in the Edinburgh area, 11-year-old Joseph from Leith decided to take action. His simple idea “Socks for the Street” has touched the hearts of people in the local community and around the world. The charity collects new socks, underwear, gloves, hats, scarves and boots for the homeless. He persuaded his school to be a drop off point for donations and has set up

a Facebook page and Amazon wish list of essentials for keeping warm on the streets. Joseph even travels with items in the family car everywhere they go in case he spots someone in need. DALE RAWLINS Dale set up a disability football team when he was just 14. Two years later, he opened a social enterprise sports shop in Gloucester to create employment for the players and generate funds. When Dale finished school, he decided to commit to the enterprise full time and has given people the confidence and skills to gain mainstream employment and move from institutional to independent living. The enterprise created funds enabling young players to take FA Level 1 courses. A couple of the players lacked the necessary literacy skills and confidence so Dale trained alongside them. The number of young people Dale has brought into the game from all forms of disadvantage is about 400. Dale now runs the largest pan-disability football club in the UK, with 13 adults and 3 children’s sides. He has set up one of only five disabled ladies sides in the country and one deaf team with over 130 regular players. Print Kingston with KAOS in Eden Walk

Calling all budding or closet artists aged 5 to 95! On 2nd June Kingston Artists Open Studios (KAOS) will be staging an interactive art event called ‘Print Kingston’ in Eden Walk, central Kingston and at the same time raise funds for the local children’s charity Momentum. Bring a photograph of your favourite Kingston building or landmark, or draw inspiration from one of ours, and join in with the Kingston public to create a rolling piece of public art. Guided by KAOS artists you will be able to create your own unique printing plate by simply drawing into a polystyrene panel with a biro using all of your ingenuity and creative interpretation. The next stage will be to ink your plate up using a roller, press the plate firmly (ink side down!) next in line onto the paper and hey presto! you’ll have made your own mark on the Kingston landscape. By the end of the day we will have collectively produced a unique piece of public art that will be exhibited in the borough museums during the following few months. In addition to that, you will be able to make your own print from your plate and take both print and plate home with you. Not only does this promise to be a fun-filled, creative event, but it will be free! Eden Walk have kindly lent us a gazebo and furniture and Pullingers have donated all of the art materials. So roll up the sleeves of your artist smock and join in! KAOS is an unfunded group of local artists

and makers, run entirely by volunteers. Our primary purpose is to raise the profile of the visual arts in Kingston by connecting the local creative community with their neighbours. Our main event is the annual open studios held in June, whereby artists open their homes and studios to the public. HEALTH & WELLBEING Yoga for the Soul: Why we really need to relax

Relaxing should be easy, but when people come to yoga they often find it one of the hardest thing to do. We are so hardwired to be on the go and pack the most we can into our day, that sometimes we forget how to to sit back and let go for a minute. It is one of the most beneficial things we can do. And no - a box-set session doesn’t count! It still stimulates us and engages us, taking us out of ourselves. Yoga, in its many modern forms, can sometimes be physically intense and there are many great benefits to that. But where it excels and differs from other forms of exercise is the focus on the breath, the mind and the inbuilt balance between effort with rest (indeed it could be seen as one of the first kinds of interval training!). Yoga has its own tradition of relaxation and meditation and was seen as a method for how to live well. It sounds very philosophical, but that’s why yoga is known as a practice - we are learning all the time and using our skills to navigate the trials of life. Taking time to relax gives us perspective and the space to consider our next move. When we practice a lot, we can learn to dial down our rapid thoughts and have blissful moments of peace. How to relax Start small: Try taking five minutes to lie on your bed or the floor when you come home and take 10 deep breaths. If you have 15 minutes try this: Lie on a mat or blanket on the floor. Take your time to get comfortable, deep your lower back and shoulder blades flat against the floor and the back of the neck long. If the lower back aches, bend your knees, with feet flat on the floor. If the chin is lifting towards the sky, use a cushion or blanket to lengthen the back of

your neck, so it is in a neutral position and the chin draws towards the throat. Move your hands 45 degrees away from your body, palms facing the sky. Keep your feet a little more than hip distance apart and (if the legs are straight) allow the toes to drop out to the side. Observe how you are breathing. Try to lengthen and slow your breath without any strain. Making the exhale longer, and releasing tension from your muscles on the exhale, promotes relaxation. Stay here for at least 10 minutes, noticing if tension creeps back into the body (especially the shoulders, face and throat). If it does, relax on the next exhale, and the next. When you are ready, lie on your side for a few moments, then get up very slowly. Enjoy.

GARDENING May Gardening Tips MAY to gardeners is the start of the growing year, when new leaves emerge fresh and green. However, with all this new growth plants will require extra support for climbers and providing stakes or support for the perennials. The vigorous growth of many herbaceous perennials and climbers often needs a helping hand to prevent them flopping onto neighbouring plants or over the edges of lawns and paths. Putting plant supports in place early means that even the most obvious ones can be hidden by the foliage when it grows through in just a few weeks. When choosing the most suitable support, you need to match it to the vigour of the plant and donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t tie in plants too rigidly; they should be able to move a little. It may be necessary to continue tying the stems or raise the level of the used supports as the plant grows. Always use a soft string for tying in small plants and a slightly stronger but still soft string for roses or other vigorous climbers. There are plenty of different supports available whether that is home made with twigs and canes or you purchase ready made metal/plastic versions. Each different type of support is suitable for different growing shapes. For instance upright tall clump-forming perennials such as delphiniums or sunflowers can be supported with individual canes. Plants such as phlox or chrysanthemums grow well through ready-made circular grid support frames or curved link stakes, whereas top-heavy plants such as peony and dahlias are better suited to ready-made Y-stake supports or spiral ring supports but you will have to carefully feed the stems through as they grow. When making your own supports peasticks are useful for lower growing plants such as penstemons or asters and provide a more natural look to the border. Just place the thick end of the branch into the ground and bend/weave

Where climbers are against a wall either a wooden trellis or a plastic coated wire grid will help support the plants but remember to leave a gap between the wall and the trellis to allow for air-flow around the plants. To give the borders height and for a more formal look wooden or metal obelisks provide the ideal support for roses and clematis with the added bonus that when the plants have died down in winter you will still have the architectural structures providing interest. For twining climbers such as cobaea or sweet peas that are not as vigorous as roses tall tripods made from sticks or bamboo canes provide an ideal framework for their softer growth. Some schools are even promising year 6 that they can write stories after their SATS - in other words, as a treat! So what can you do to help? Help them write Write for them! Really? If your child’s got great ideas but struggles getting them down on paper, let them dictate them. It’ll fire up their creative juices and they’ll love hearing them read back. You could even help inject a few adjectives and descriptive phrases to make it even better – but don’t overdo it!!

If you’ve been at work full time while your husband’s been at home looking after the children, he is likely to get custody – not because you’re a bad mother, but because he’s the one available to continue doing it. You don’t say how old your children are, but teenage boys often want to live with their father and, if that’s what’s best for them, you’ll need to let them go. Of course you would still expect to see a lot of them. I’m assuming that your husband’s threats are just an emotional reaction to the ‘D’ word. But if they are a continuation of emotional abuse or coercive control during the relationship you could be in danger if you leave so seek advice from an organisation such as Women’s Aid first. And in this case I’m afraid it is much more likely that you will end up in court.

With the weather finally looking up a little bit and the joy of those long weekends in May, we want to inspire you to get the best out of those extra days off. For lots of us, we assume options are limited on account of so many stores and other buildings being closed for the holiday - but that doesn’t mean you have to sit indoors all day - or do, if that’s how you enjoy spending days off work! If you want to keep things based at home There’s no harm in that - however, it can come as a shock to your system if you spend lots of time doing almost nothing, only to get thrown back into the working week with less time to get things sorted! You can get very settled into the idea of not getting up early, being underproductive and vegging out, which can be almost therapeutic, but it can mean you tire and become stressed easily when things get back to normal. Why not try to at least keep your brain active with some puzzles, games or some DIY? Or keep your body in sync with a fast-paced work/family life by incorporating a little bit of exercise? This could range from a nice

walk in the park to a proper session at the gym or a few lengths at your local swimming pool. Better yet, bring the family along with you. This way, you get a mixture of quality time with your loved ones, and the whole family gets a good stretch. If of course you prefer to put your feet up while you can, just enjoy yourself, watch some movies or play along with gameshows with your loved ones; maybe play some board games or host your own quiz? There’s no wrong way to spend your time! Adventuring If you’re looking to take a long weekendshort break, discuss with your family or friends the best possible location for it. Are you all on the same page? Some of you may prefer a sunny, lazy, lounge-on-deckchairs style trip to the beach or a cruise (if there’s time), whereas others sometimes prefer somewhere a little milder in temperature to do some exploring, hiking through wooded areas or rock climbing. I personally love a bit of sightseeing and have spent many a bank holiday overloading my phone gallery with

architecture, landmarks or nature shots to share with Instagram or alternative. Technology has brought us various social media platforms to share our experiences, and a lot of apps that may require you to get out of the house in order to complete them, such as step-counters or Pokemon Go. These can encourage the whole family to take a walk together. Or why not enjoy a photography trail? As long as you take a few pit stops and refresh now and then, there is no reason for the mood to get sour and the whole group should have a good time. Having fun doesn’t mean breaking the bank! It doesn’t have to cost the earth to look back over the long weekend feeling satisfied and having stories to tell. Your time could be spent doing something as cost-effective but rewarding as crafting homemade gifts or taking care of that broken cupboard door; down to a simple day at the beach with a portion of chips. You could go for a bike ride, host a picnic for all your nearest and dearest - although stores are going to be closing early, you can still grab a few loaves of bread ahead of time and a couple of familyfavourite fillings, maybe make your own fruit salad - then it’s just down to a quick phone call to see who wants to join. You can always, of course, refer to our local events section to see if there are any

free events coming up that you can take advantage of. Or check out your local cinema/favourite stores/restaurants and see if they are offering any bank holiday specials! Socialise! Even if it just means having a little BBQ or a picnic, gather your besties or get to know your neighbours by picking a nice local park or setting up in the garden for the day! There’s the added bonus when involving friends on your days off that if they have a nicer, more spacious garden area, you may be able to take advantage! Set a plan and see who’s available, sometimes people just need the suggestion and a little nudge in order to get them in the social mood, rather than assuming everyone wants to stay indoors with their feet up. Throwing a little get-together for everyone doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive either, as long as you have good company and something to drink, something to nibble on or a good number of burgers and hotdogs, no one can complain! You could also save on buying tons of spirits and mixers for those who’d like a drink by making your own cocktails, fruit infused water or punch in large supply and sharing it out. Just some light refreshment will be great for a sunny day at home.

Keeping Bugs at Bay We had a warmer start this Spring, with hopefully a sunny few months on the way this means fun in the sun and good vibes all round, however, the downside this time of year is that you’re always swatting at flies and gnats or running from wasps! You may also notice that pests are starting to make a comeback right in your own home, especially if you’re opening the windows more often to air things out. If you’ve started to notice an issue in your home with unwanted house guests, then hopefully these tips can help: • Avoid leaving any dirty laundry out - keep any clothes in a hamper that has a lid, as the oils and the scents left on clothes can attract moths.You can also try to deter moths using cedar wood and lavender sprays or by keeping your clothes in bags/ covers, particularly if they’re made from natural materials. • Maintain your bookshelves - make sure to leave things like books arranged on shelves and keep them dusted and clean, as they can attract silverfish.

keep food away from parasites. • Take care of your pets - do regular flea treatments, use flea collars, empty litter boxes and bathe/groom your animals as necessary, otherwise you can open your house up to even more less-manageable blood-suckers and flies.

• Check on wooden frames and doors - is the wood is properly finished and treated well, it won’t seem so appealing to any wood-destroying pests, or to any bees hoping to find a nest.

• Use insecticides if required - some bugs, for example, cockroaches are a little harder to keep a handle on and a little bug spray here and there or squishing under foot won’t keep the problem from worsening, so try bait traps or poisons if you really need to, but handle with care.

• Seal up any crevices - filling any cracks in windows or brickwork will help keep out any insects from trying to get in from the garden. Just remember to check any vents or crawl spaces too.

• Sweep/hoover your house regularly - this will help to rid those areas under the sofa or around your kitchen worktops of any any creepy crawlies that could be hiding out.

• Keep your sides clear of spoiled food rotting fruit or pet food that has been left out too long can attract ants, flies, beetles and even rodents so it could be worth investing in some sealable tupperware to

Landlords can be held liable if anyone is injured by unsafe or faulty wiring or a faulty appliance. • LANDLORD GAS SAFETY CERTIFICATE - It is a legal requirement for this check to be completed annually by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer and must be in place before the start of any tenancy. • EPC – It is a legal requirement to have an Energy Performance Certificate so that prospective tenants are aware of the propertys energy efficiency. Insulation, double glazing, boilers and heating types can all have an impact on the rating and as from the 1st April this year it is illegal to let a property to a tenant with a rating lower than E.

• FRESH, CLEAN AND TIDY – It may be obvious, but the better the property looks the more positive attention it will attract. In a very competitive market you are more likely to get good offers if the property is clean and tidy; so get the décor freshened up, fix those broken shelves, shampoo the carpets, clean throughout including the windows, declutter and tidy both the garden and any communal areas. • CHOOSE A GOOD AGENCY – Go with the Agent you trust and who suits you best. Make sure that they are members of a professional body such as ARLA. • BE OPEN MINDED – You will attract applicants from all walks of life.
