LOCAL BUSINESS
This month we are talking to Richard Bahari from Extension Build London Ltd.
Supplied by: Richard Bahari - EB London
Q1: Hi Richard, could you please tell our readers a little bit about Extension Build London Ltd?
Q6: What is the most common problem encountered in your line of work?
A1: Extension Build London is a design and build company based in New Malden. We provide planning/design services for house extensions and loft conversions and new builds and manage the build to completion. Q2: How long have you been in this line of business now? A2: The company started a couple of years ago when my building friends and I discussed about doing this for ourselves while we were developing our own properties. We felt that the quality that we could provide in terms of the overall experience from starting to completion would be a good quality.
A6: I think mostly people’s expectations on what is realistic and not. But, we always try to be as helpful as we can in terms of explaining what is allowed by the local authority and in terms of explaining our milestones during a project. This ensures a peace of mind for the clients knowing that their projects are actually progressing as planned. Q7: Do you have any special offers on at the moment? A7: We are currently offering 10% off for our planning fees for Omni readers. This offer is valid for April and May.
Q3: What do you enjoy most about working in this type of industry?
Q8: Do you have any advice for those looking to get into a similar line of work?
A3: For me personally, it’s looking at the end result. Seeing something that was not there before and seeing the finished product looking grand. I have always also enjoyed the challenge in arranging different things to make a process run smoothly, thus making the end product finished on time and as per requirements.
A8: It’s really about trying to maintain your composure and focus when dealing with different individuals. At the end of the day, the important thing is the end result which must be of a good quality. This will help you up in the future projects, where you know you have done a good job and can do so next time.
Q4: What kind of services does Extension Build London have to offer?
Q9: Great! What is the best way for readers to get in touch with you?
A4: We provide several services for clients who want to convert their lofts or build extensions or even a new build from small ones like a new garage or a new house. What that means is we can come in from the very beginning of a project, designing and planning with the client, and then start the build once planning is done. Or we can also start from the build, if the clients are ready with the planning.
A9: Our details are info@eblondon.co.uk or you can call us on 0208 970 7878 where our staff will take your calls and gather the information about your work. Usually, either myself or my colleague will then arrange to meet up and discuss on site.
Q5: What is your usual clientele? A5: Typically clients who are just moving into their homes and want to expand their space. They can vary from terraced houses to detached houses. Areas we cover are New Malden, Kingston, Worcester Park, Raynes Park, Wimbledon and Surrey. But, we have done work closer to the central London like Balham and Tulse Hill. So, we can try to accommodate the areas depending on the projects.

CARE IN THE COMMUNITY
THIS MONTH’S Supplied by: CHARITY Leanna Carl - Omni Local
Enjoying Spring with your Elders Now is a better time than ever to spend your free days admiring nature and having the kids run around. It’s also perfect for getting your grandparents outside a little more often while the weather is in perfect balance. Sure, it’s hard to predict those light rain showers and windy walks, but if you can find the time, you can appreciate this time of year for what it is - a fresh start. It’s the time of year when all the flowers are in bloom, the days start growing longer and we welcome the coming Summer of 2017, whilst planning out our approaching holidays. One idea for how to enjoy the pleasant settings and get people on their feet and invested in nature is with a nice walk through Richmond Park, or with a trip to Kew Gardens. I personally love to walk around the gorgeous sights of the botanical gardens, finding new and interesting plant life, as well as the wildlife on the riverbanks. There’s a good chance of seeing newborn ducks and geese while you roam the walkways. I’ve also gotten some great photos of the peacocks there as well. You could take your elders for a walk and a nice lunch while you’re there, to break up the day.
This time of year is ideal for those who don’t go out too often or who tire easily as you don’t have the additions of scorching heat and blinding sunlight through a lack of clouds. Pick a mild, light-jacket sort of day and everyone will be happy and will be able to soak up some vitamin D in the process without having to slap on inches of suncream and investing in a whole new Summer wardrobe just yet - or better yet, take your relatives for a shop while you’re at it and kit both of you out for the coming season! Take advantage of the gentle temperatures and calm atmosphere that tends to come with Springtime and gather the family for some weekend fun.
Or alternatively, if you want a more casual day out, why not accompany your relatives in a walk along the riverside in Kingston? Not only is it a relaxing and enjoyable way to get some lovely photos and admire the swans at the water’s edge, but there is also a vast amount of wonderful pubs and restaurants right next to it to end the day with a great meal, live music or a light lunch in one of the beer gardens/terraces by the river. You could even take them on a boat ride!

POLICE ADVICE
Do you care for someone who has dementia and worry that they might go missing?

The Herbert Protocol is here to help find them if they do. Nothing is more worrying or distressing than when a loved one or friend goes missing or doesn’t return home when expected. For people living with or caring for someone with dementia, this may be quite common. The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme adopted by Kingston Police and other police services across the country. It encourages carers, families, friends or neighbours, to hold information about the person with dementia that can help the police find them if they do go missing. The basis of the scheme is for vital information about the person such as medication, description, photograph, significant places in the person’s life and their daily routine, to be recorded on a form.

It’s Time to Take on Race for Life in Kingston!
Sarah Parker - CRUK
Cancer Research UK Event Manager, Sarah Parker from Surbiton, is encouraging local women to sign up to Race for Life in the local area: Richmond Old Deer Park 5k – 4th June Epsom Downs 5k and 10k – 25th June Kempton Park Racecourse 5k and 10k – 1st July Morden Park Pretty Muddy 5k – 3rd September
true with Sarah, who adds, “My mum was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer ten years ago, and is still alive today thanks to the work of Cancer Research UK. Organising a Race for Life event in my local community is a great way to mark this occasion – I really hope many local Kingston women will join me on the day.”
By signing up to Race for Life right now, women in Kingston will be playing their part in beating cancer, as the money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to treat cancer and save more lives. Sarah said: “Signing up to take part in Race for Life is a great way for women to set themselves a new and exciting challenge for 2017. “Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends or a 10k sprint, every step will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. “Every day, 90 people are diagnosed with cancer in London. That’s why we’re calling on women in Kingston to make 2017 a year to remember. Together, we can stop this devastating disease in its tracks.”
Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend over £129 million last year in London on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research - helping more men, women and children survive. “By taking part in Race for Life, mums, daughters, sisters and friends can make a real difference in the fight against cancer. We urge women to sign up right now and show their support.” To enter Race for Life today visit raceforlife. org or call 0300 123 0770.
One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before. Survival rates have doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. Thanks to Cancer Research UK over half of people diagnosed with cancer now survive for 10 years or more, a statistic that rings

Working with Love Kingston Love Kingston is an exciting campaign and Fund for the changing needs of communities in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames; a project of the Kingston Voluntary Action. It is the only borough-wide local giving platform where all money raised stays local for the benefit of generations to come.
LOVE KINGSTON Supplied by: Tessa Kind - Love Kingston
As a local community-minded individual, I love my town and the mix of people in it. Using experience in marketing, advertising and communications, I want to shout about all the good the people of Kingston do and help those who cannot always reach their full potential. With a track record of successful community fundraising in Kingston I was thrilled when appointed Community Fundraising Manager for Love Kingston, my ideal job. I’ve always been concerned about my local neighbourhood, and when I first heard about a Foodbank opening in Kingston in 2013 I was a bit shocked, so I put an idea for an event together to raise funds and awareness. I pitched it to Paul Pickhaver, the Foodbank manager who gave me his full support. The live music and supper event, Rich man, Poor man, was born and was a great success. Paul later suggested I meet with Love Kingston to organise and expand future events for their campaign.
our support to help them continue to make a difference. Love Kingston’s impact can be seen immediately because the grant-making is only to local borough organisations.
I met with Elaine, the Love Kingston manager at the time, became an active volunteer and continued fundraising, then a proud Ambassador in 2015. It now seems a natural progression to take on this baton from Sorrel. It’s a challenging yet rewarding role, getting involved in everything from championing local giving, handling social media and building new relationships with groups, businesses and individuals. You meet interesting people and learn so much about the work they do, which is what I love about the job.
My focus going forward, is to engage the wider community, particularly schools and local businesses, communicating the importance of building on the Legacy Fund for the future of our small charitable groups and organisations. I’m looking forward to encouraging individuals, businesses and groups to come up with creative ways to fundraise. As a ‘community connector’ the reward for helping the grass roots of local organisations survive and grow by sharing knowledge, offering advice and gifting, is a no-brainer. Come and join me! KINGSTON ROTARY
Here be Dragons
Supplied by: Janet Bacon - Kingston Rotary
Bigger and better than ever - the Kingston Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge on the River Thames at Canbury Gardens, Kingston on Sunday 16th July 2017 will provide the perfect family day out. Dragon Boat racing is an exciting and fun-filled event that gives companies, clubs, organisations and other groups the opportunity to put together teams to race in Dragon Boats and raise money for charity. No previous experience is necessary as training will be given on the day. Crews of mixed abilities, male and female, and those with disabilities may take part. The event starts with the first race at 9.30am and ends with a dramatic eightboat final at approximately 4.30pm. Expect a great day out for all the family with stalls and sideshows, lots of food and drink, plus plenty of space for both team supporters and spectators to watch the racing. There is a prize for the team sporting the best headgear or costume and most teams enter the spirit of the occasion dressing up in native American headdresses, gaudy headwear, wigs and all manner of outfits. All teams are required to raise money for charity through team sponsorship – organisers ask you to aim for at least £1,000 per team (£60 per competitor). Last year teams raised a total of over £50,000. If teams are not raising money for their own charity, we recommend they support our chosen charity for 2017, The River Thames Boat Project. This charity offers educational, therapeutic and recreational cruises and activities on the River Thames for the young and old people plus all ages that have a disability or mental health condition. They currently operate from the following locations: Kingston upon Thames, Teddington Lock and Hermitage Community Moorings (Tower Bridge). There is an entry fee of £450 per team, which covers the costs of hiring the boats and qualified helms, and organising the event.

Teams have a great time as you will see from this quote from Pauline Woods of the Born Too Soon charity “Heartfelt thanks to everyone at Kingston Rotary Club. What a fantastic day. Everyone had a great time. We are so proud to be associated with Rotary. Such a great atmosphere and fun for everyone. We cannot thank you enough. Looking forward to next year.” We look forward to seeing you on 16th July as we know it will be a day of great entertainment, excitement and spectacle. It is a fun packed day for all the family where all proceeds go to charity. Kingston Tours can also be subject-focused, on particular historical sights such as the Kingston Riverside, local street art or even based around Kingston Characters. Alternatively, private walks can be provided for any group as long as notice is given. These historical talks are often given at schools and colleges. Kingston Tours begin from the gates at All Saints Church in the Ancient Market Place or by Surbiton Railway Station on Victoria Road, and walks cost just £5 per person (or £3 for under 12’s - children under 5’s also go free). GARDENING
April Gardening Tips
Supplied by: Janet Bacon
April showers and warm days have had their effect and the garden is coming to life. Daffodils, crocus and hyacinths provided lots of early colour under the bare branches of shrubs or trees but now that leaves are appearing we need more flower to compliment the tulips or provide some contrast. I have listed below some of my favourite early flowering shrubs and hardy perennials which will add not only structure but colour and scent to your spring garden. Magnolias come in small and large varieties so I have mentioned both depending on the size of your plot. For small gardens star Magnolias (Magnolia stellata) are best because they are frost hardy and bloom when very small making them ideal for planting in pots. You have the choice of profuse deep pink flowers, small purplish flowers or large white flowers. Alternatively, ‘Yellow Bird’ is a terrific yellow flowered variety which blooms as the leaves emerge. Magnolia ‘Leonard Messel’ (Magnolia x loebneri) is a larger variety that produces slender, rose-pink petals that splay outwards. It is frost resistant, but you should site away from morning sun. Magnolia x soulangeana again is a larger variety with large, dark green leaves and huge, deep rose-pink or white, gobletshaped flowers. Either one of the larger varieties would make a superb focal point in the middle of a lawn. Syringa Bloomerang Dark Purple, a new breed of smaller lilacs, has a main flush of flowers in spring, but then unlike the old-fashioned varieties, carries on flowering intermittently right through until mid-autumn. The flowers, opening from darker buds, are a rich purple, highly fragrant and form an excellent early food for butterflies.

It has one drawback as the milky sap is poisonous and a potential skin irritant so be careful when cutting stems and always wear gloves. Osmanthus delavayi is a small evergreen shrub making rounded bushes which produce masses of small tubular sweetly scented white flowers. Plant near an entrance or well-used path to get full benefit of the highly fragrant flowers. Helleborus orientalis, known as the lenten rose, is a perennial which has large saucer-shaped flowers in varying shades from white to plum purple, spotted inside, crimson and maroon. It has attractive deeply fingered dark green foliage which makes them ideal for the front of an early spring border. To get in touch, please email j.bacon@ tiscali.co.uk or call 020 8393 7970.

LEARNING
You’re two thirds through the school year. But do you really know how your child is doing?
Supplied by: Celia Osborne Numberworks’n’words
Struggling with homework blues? Does your son pull a long face and struggle with maths homework? Does your daughter do her English, but quite frankly you think it could be better? And how’s the creative writing, comprehension, fractions, word problems and algebra? Do spelling and table tests incite fear into your child? And do you really have a clear idea of how your child is doing, whether they’re struggling or if they could be doing better? As a parent, it’s not always easy to know how our kids are doing and although you can of course ask them, generally you only get a chipper ‘fine’ or a grunt in reply! Frustrated by short parent consultations? Most of us have probably just had a chance to speak to our child’s teachers, but even then we often don’t feel we learn much. As an ex primary school teacher, I know only too well that 12 minutes really only lets you scratch the surface. And as a teacher, I was happy if a child just kept up with the class and performed ‘in line with expectations’. I didn’t have a parent’s desires and aspirations for their child. Get an independent view and a better idea If you have that sneaking suspicion that your child could be doing better, why not pop into NumberWorks’nWords for an independent view? Your child can have a free assessment in both maths and English and a chance to have a go at some of the structured learning activities 17
that we provide. As an experienced teacher, I’ll be honest about how I think your child is doing. I can observe them to see whether I think there are gaps in their learning that are holding them back or whether I think they could be racing ahead to achieve more. If I feel we can help at them NumberWorks’nWords with our unique structured learning programmes, I can discuss what we could do to support them in their learning. And if they are doing just fine, I’ll tell you that too. And the really good news Children that learn with us, love it! No groaning or mumbling. No tears and tantrums. They just enjoy learning. And if that sounds like a breath of fresh air, get in touch.

As we celebrate with good food, wine and don’t forget the chocolate - Is it time to have our own personal spring clean? How many corridors & skirting boards may need a scrub inside us! The V3 system; ProArgi-9+, Mistify and Phytolife Did you know that our blood has an acidic/ alkaline balance and for optimum health we should have a ph approx. 7.2 – 7.4. Our diets can cause our blood to become more acidic; which can cause conditions like gout. The internet will show you good lists of alkalising foods, for example; lemons are acidic in nature, but metabolised in the body as alkalising. Many green vegetables are alkalising. If we are not getting enough you can use Phytolife; a rich combination of chlorophyllin and peppermint oil contributing to a normal digestive system and alkalising! Do we know why we need anti-oxidants in our diets? Anti-oxidants find the free radicals and make them unharmful to us! That sounds simple. Without going into the chemistry (protons, neutrons, and electrons) free radicals are very unstable. They generally attack the nearest stable molecule and ‘steal’ its electron. And then the attacked molecule loses its electron and then becomes a free radical itself which results in the disruption of living cells. Do we get enough antioxidants for our bodies to fight off the chemicals in our food, the environment and our normal body processes that create free radicals? Mistify is an excellent boost of antioxidants, containing vitamin B6, Acai Berry,

SPECIAL FEATURE
Happy Easter Everyone!
Supplied by: Leanna Carl - Omni Local
This time of year, we typically reserve celebrations for the kids - this comes down to some negative words like “diet” and “dentists” because the majority of us associate the holiday with chocolate - which isn’t a big seller with grown ups. There’s a lot more behind Easter traditions than just chocolate, but if that is the real selling point for you, why not treat yourself? Egg Hunts Adults can take part in egg hunts and chocolate eating after all, especially if there is an inclusion of alcohol or fab gifts that don’t affect the waistline… why not purchase some plastic hollow eggs from your local arts and crafts shop (you can find kinder-esque eggs to hide toys in) and insert your own goodies such as cute jewellery, makeup products, snacks or even money! A fun, albeit chancey way to get people excited is by hiding a scratch card and lucky penny in each egg for them to seek out and scratch off. That’ll get your friends and family to join in on the hunt! You can make things fun and expand the hunt to your whole house or a local park if you’re prepared. Just make sure you hide them well, then create clues or riddles to lead your guests to the treasure! Chocolate! Alternatively - who’s to say we can’t indulge once in a while or get messy in the kitchen for a day? You could create your own chocolate eggs using plastic moulds and quality ingredients and invent your own! If you find it a little easier, simply melt some chocolate onto greaseproof paper, and sprinkle over your favourite toppings like nuts, dried fruit, crushed peppermints or cookie crumbs before the chocolate sets then refrigerate for a delicious chocolate bark full of goodies. These methods are great for keeping the kids entertained or for when you have more mature company over. Otherwise, bake some egg shaped gingerbread cookies earlier in the day and let your little ones
22
decorate them with icing and sprinkles. Arts and Crafts Another way of keeping kids busy without the addition of sugar is to hard boil eggs and dye the shells, or let the kids paint, glitter and sequin-decorate them to show off to their relatives - however, be prepared for a little mess if you do. You could even turn it into a competition and award prizes, such as a toy or edible treat for the most funny egg, for the most pretty egg, or for the most colourful egg and so on… just don’t let things get too competitive!

THE TWITS Wed 05 Apr - Sun 16 Apr Adapted By David Wood. Director Max Webster. Mr Twit has a very hairy face. His beard is spiky and smelly. It also contains cornflakes, sardines and even some stilton. Mrs Twit is equally as foul and she hates Mr Twit just as much as Mr Twit hates her. The Twits really are the most spiteful and revolting couple you could ever hope to meet. They spend their days playing wicked tricks on each other and mistreating Muggle-Wump monkeys. They also have a particularly sticky trick to catch Roly-Poly birds for their bird pies. But not for much longer because the monkeys have a cunning plan to teach those terrible twits a lesson. JUNKYARD Wed 19 Apr - Sun 30 Apr Book and lyrics by Jack Thorne, music by Stephen Warbeck, directed by Jeremy Herrin It’s 1979, rubbish is on the streets, and it’s tricky being Fiz. She’s 13, she’s got no money, her sister’s pregnant and her mum thinks she’s a waste of space... Rick remembers what it’s like to be a teenager. So when he decides to build a junk playground in Bristol, he’s pretty sure he has the charisma to get a bunch of reluctant kids involved. He’s wrong. But with some old-fashioned emotional bribery, Rick persuades Fiz, Higgy and Ginger to help 24
him. And the project turns from something that means nothing to something that means a lot. And kids that care about nothing, start to care a lot. But darkness has a way of coming back and biting you when you least expect it. HEART OF DARKNESS Sat 22 Apr - Sun 23 Apr Presented by the Rose Youth Theatre This new adaptation of Heart of Darkness is set against the backdrop of the War on Terror. A troubled young woman journeys upriver in a desolate war zone to find the infamous Kurtz. The further she gets from civilization, the harder it is to distinguish between nightmare and reality, past and present, righteousness and evil. Joseph Conrad’s searing indictment of colonialism is presented by students of Rose Young Company, adapted by Rose Theatre’s Ciaran McConville. GULLIVER’S TRAVELS Tue 02 May - Wed 03 May Adapted by Josh Mathieson When Gulliver washes up on Lilliput, everything changes for the tiny island state. A giant among midgets, Gulliver is celebrity, foreigner and potentially a very useful weapon. War with Blefuscu has been imminent ever since the Great Egg Rebellion. Now they must tame Gulliver before the enemy launches its fleet. Only young Demelza, Gulliver’s tutor and adviser to the Emperor, can stop all-out war. Spring Vacations
Supplied by: Leanna Carl - Omni Local
This time of year things tend to feel a bit dull and “on hold”. It’s not quite summer sunshine and school holidays but Christmas and the Winter season are far behind us now. Sometimes we just need to break up our everyday lives, explore new things and make full use of those coming bank holidays. The question is: where to go this year? If you’re still on the fence about where to go this Spring and want to scoop up a last minute getaway - here are the best locations to consider: Greece Areas like Athens are fab this time of year. The historical sights, stunning cuisine and having plenty of fun things to do whilst soaking up some sunshine make a perfect escape from April showers and boring routines. The nightlife in Greece is ideal for letting your hair down and the welcoming atmosphere of the locals will have you relaxed and smiling.
France
The United States If you’re not necessarily trying to spend the whole trip lounging on the beach, why not venture to cities like Washington DC and Texas to take advantage of the beautiful spring weather, southern charms and annual events this time of year? Texas in particular holds a very well known and favourited wine and music festival this time of year - and if it’s too late to make it this year, make a note in your calendar for 2018! Canada Next month comes the Canadian Tulip Festival which features an astonishing 1 million tulips on public display! Not to mention, Canada has an all round warmth, hospitality and some amazing sights like Niagara Falls. If you can get away to Canada this year, you’ll definitely find something to love about it. Great food, wonderful atmosphere and lots of places to shop/enjoy the night time re just the tip of the iceberg. Spain This is one of the most commonly visited holiday destinations, particularly this time of year. Barcelona is a real hotspot during the Springtime if only for great weather, lively locals and fantastic eats. If you’re looking for higher temperatures and tons of energy, this is the place to be.
27
Paris in the springtime is a definite favourite, especially for couples. With the blossoming flowers, gorgeous sights and great ways to spend the day, such as visiting the Louvre or walking through its enormous parks and museums. I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t enjoy the French cuisine either! Once in a lifetime, everyone has to see Paris - and it’s a great idea for a quick break thanks to the Eurostar.

Our aim is to try and change that, by helping our readers see what excellent services are available near to them, but we could use some more help! If you know of any LOCAL trades businesses that have yet to feature in Omni Local, and you feel they deserve a mention in our magazine, please do not hesitate to send us their company details. Maybe you’ve used a local service recently and you feel that they should get a mention? If so, please let us know about it and we will do our best to provide support and assist them in promoting their business. Contact John on 07898 870 870 or email sales.omnilocal@gmail.com

HOME IMPROVEMENTS
Spring Cleaning Time! The seasons have officially changed and it’s time to get things in order. There are a lot of places to start but it’s all about finding the time and making a list. Below are some of the areas you may not have seen to in a while.
Supplied by: Leanna Carl - Omni Local
Window-washing Ideally this is something to save for a mildweather day. If this is done on a hot, sunny day, you may find your cleaning solution dries rapidly, leaving a streaky effect - whereas a rainy day job is just going to be unpleasant. If you’re working in a shady area or on a particularly cloudy day, you should have much better luck.
Fabrics and Furniture Restore any leather items of furniture using a proper cleanser or leather wipes and don’t forget to give any removal covers a spin in the washing machine (or handwash if appropriate). You’d also be surprised at how often people tend to freshen up their curtains - don’t leave it too long!
For a quick fix you can create your own mild solution using washing up liquid, rubbing alcohol and water, or simply invest in a good quality window cleaner spray/buckets and sponges. Framing and Fresh Carpets Door frames, window frames, skirting boards and so on are the areas that get overlooked but which can make a huge difference to the look of your windows and walls. Ideally you want to keep the walls and windows clean too, but it is important that you don’t overlook the linings or it’ll take away from all your hard work! Just give these areas a decent scrubbing with some soapy water. Whether you keep things fresh with a deep, professional clean, you get your hands dirty and scrub in some carpet shampoo, or you maintain your carpets and rugs with a regular vacuum and gentle freshen-up, it makes such a huge difference when you or any guests in your house enter the room.
Curtains can really retain odours and can destroy the appearance of a room when stained or discoloured. If your home isn’t smoke-free you’re likely to keep a lot of that smokey stench in the fabrics around the house, which can be very unappealing for visitors. Curtains don’t tend to require too many washes, but a good vaccuum/febreeze or even a quick tumble dry with a dryer sheet makes a big difference. If however, you simply cannot find the time to sort out jobs like these or you want someone who’ll do the job right, why not call in professionals, such as Dirty Cows and Merrymaids (Look out for their ads at the back and front of this issue!)

ESTATE & LETTINGS
Stirling Prize winning architect creates the centrepiece of new residential area in Kingston
Supplied by: Hannah Godwin - Pocket Living
26 one and two bedroom homes have launched for sale on Cowleaze Road
This key building contains 21 one bedroom apartments and 5 two bedroom apartments that are being built by innovative housing developer Pocket Living. This will be their first scheme in Kingston.
A collection of former industrial and commercial buildings around Cowleaze Road has made way for new residential development, creating a quiet cul-de-sac close to Kingston Station.
Pocket living’s handsome four-storey brick building on Cowleaze Road will provide a spacious roof terrace for all residents to enjoy and well-designed landscaping in the communal areas. Striking supergraphics guide you around the interior and there is ample secure cycle storage. The apartments have been thoughtfully designed with fully fitted kitchens, wet-room bathrooms and clever storage solutions.
Howarth Tompkins, Stirling Prize winners for Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre, have designed the building at the heart of this new residential close.
Pocket has been building compact homes across London for well over a decade, their homes are carefully designed from the inside out for the way Londoners live today. Pocket apartments are for local people to own and enjoy living in (not investors), and thanks to the fantastic roof terrace, homeowners can quickly form a strong community. Pocket’s one bed homes are sold at a 20% discount to the local market price, because they’re just for first time buyers. These apartments enable young professionals from the local area to put down roots and get onto the property ladder. The homes are on sale now, with the building completing later this year. To buy one of these homes register at www. pocketliving.com or call the Pocket Sales team on 0203 713 9278.

COMPETITION REVIEW
Syncholistic Yoga A very different prize for you this month, one to calm you down, improve your mobility and find your balance, ideal for men or women. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Having never tried yoga I was scared to try. I also thought being older and less flexible meant I wouldn’t enjoy it or be capable of joining in, but anyone can benefit! There was a varied age range and bendability, nothing is compulsory and Martina finds alternative positions to suit you personally. Research states that body language expresses the internal state to the world. This means we can alert people to the way we feel and tap into the body’s cognitive resources of developmental change. Aid your mind, body and spirit by finding better posture, controlling your breathing patterns and opening up to a more active lifestyle. Martina started running her classes following years of holistic experience and knowledge about happiness and wellness, as well as spiritual evolution. Her classes are beneficial in many ways and will assist in alignment, mindfulness and overall transformation. Classes are held in Martina’s new creative studio with natural light, overlooking a beautiful garden in Kingston Vale.

It is well worth trying. CONGRATULATIONS TO LAST MONTH’S COMPETITION WINNER SIMONE CYBUCH – WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR WINE TASTING AT LAITHWAITES!
