Hello readers! It’s Chriiiiistmaaaas!! Or, at least it will be later this month... We hope you’re all in the spirit and ready for the big day! We have lots of ideas and local businesses to help you get through this busy time of year and some great local events coming this month.
Contents:
Our OLBN Xmas parties kick off this month too, and we hope that many of our wonderful supporters will join us to celebrate! Please read on to see what’s in store, and stay warm out there! Firstly, please welcome our newest advertisers Canbury Arms (on page 24), RJ Solutions (on page 14/32), FCI London (on page 28), and Winkworths (on page 42), we hope you’ll be in touch with them, and please let them know you saw them in Omni Local. Secondly, Don’t miss this month’s competition on Page 40 - another great prize on offer for you courtesy of The Coronation Hall, Surbiton! We would like to apologise for a misprint in our last issue, as our Home editorial for November was thoughtfully provided by Joanna Blundell of Yoga by the River, and not our own team member Leanna Carl, as credited. We sincerely regret the oversight, however, we hope you found it a great read and that you’ll check out Joanna’s fantastic yoga classes (see page 17 for details and her latest article). There will be some breaks for Omni Local Business Networking over Christmas to allow our team to take a well-earned break for the holidays, but all locations (just under 20 live groups to date!) will be back in action in 2018, so why not see what we’re about at omnilocalbusinessnetworking.com? It’s a great way to meet new friends and clients over a delicious breakfast, attend free seminars and pitch your business to a large number of people on a fortnightly basis. There’s plenty to read about this month, but for now we will just say - Keep warm and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We will see you again in 2018! Warm regards, The Omni Local Team

LOCAL BUSINESS
This month we are talking to Tina and Edward from The Snapshot Cafe.
Supplied by: The Snapshot Cafe
Q1: Hello! Could you please tell our readers a little bit about The Snapshot Cafe? A1: The Snapshot Cafe was born because of love. Tina was a fashion designer and photographer, Edward was a journalist. We decided to do something together and thought we should start with photography. The name was found by one of our wedding witnesses. After a year of cooperation, we decided to introduce videography as well. Throughout the years, we saw the necessity to set up different brands, since we were loved by different niches. In 2018, we will officially launch Forever Love Journey and Forever Love Wedding. We’re based in West London, but available to travel. Q2: How long have you been in this line of business now? A2: We were freelancing previously and The Snapshot Cafe was set up in 2013. We both have 7 years experience in photography. Q3: What do you enjoy most about working in this type of industry? A3: Celebrating with people, celebrating the beauty of life and love. That’s meaningful. Especially when we know our clients love the photos and would pass them to their children as heirlooms. Q4: What kind of services does The Snapshot Cafe have to offer? A4: Everything is bespoke. No shoot is repeatable. We start with consultation, knowing our clients’ needs and think of what we can do for them and how to add value to their events, shoots and businesses. That’s the same with corporate clients. Most of the time, we build up mood boards with clients. Q5: What is your usual clientele? A5: Our main business is wedding photography, which brings event photography (reportage photos) and portraits (capture the beauty from people) together. We love it. We also do event photography (cooperate, conference, talks, workshop, charity, wine tasting, etc) and portraits (corporate, family, maternity, etc). Tina brings a hair and makeup service alongside with photography. Q6: What is the most common request you receive? A6: The most popular service combo: Natural but cinematic shots with signature glass album. Engagement shoot and wedding day
5
service. 70% of clients would go with hair and make-up service with their shoots too. Q7: Do you have any special offers/ promotions on at the moment? A7: By the end of each year, we run Love Story Competition. The winners get either free 12 hours wedding photography or 10 hours wedding photography with 2 hours engagement shoot. This year the deadline will be the 13th of December. The winner will be announced on Christmas day. To enrol, simply send us a 300 words love story (it can be the proposal story, how you fell in love or anything related your love life) with your wedding date, location(s) and your names. Our email is info@thesnapshotcafe. com. Q8: Do you have any advice for those looking to get into a similar line of work? A8: Find out what you love the most and the reason of doing this. Write it down. When you are frustrated, look at it. Always do something you enjoy most. Set goals and make sure they are sustainable for your business. To find out more about The Snapshot Cafe, please visit thesnapshotcafe.com, call 07447 460 808 or email info@thesnapshotcafe.com.

CARE IN THE COMMUNITY
THIS MONTH’S Supplied by: CHARITY Anne Blanche - Carers UK
Health & Social Services DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO OR WHO TO CONTACT WHEN THINGS GO WRONG? Probably not! In such large, complex service organisations, regrettably, things can and do go wrong. It can range from minor problems through to catastrophic events, covering the whole range of services across the NHS and social services. Speed dealing with any problem is essential, as is professional independent support. NHS England some years ago set up “The NHS Complaints Advocacy Service”. These services are still not well known or used by many. Recent changes in 2017 have led to a degree of fragmentation of a national service to a confusing array of local services (see details at end of article). THE COMPLAINTS ADVOCACY SERVICE: • is independent, therefore not answerable to the NHS
These organisations have a wealth of information online, but if you need or ask for hard copies of their information packs, they will be able to provide them. Particularly useful are the fact sheets on draft letters for you to copy/adapt; log sheets to record progress of complaint and details of how to access medical records.
• will support you in voicing your concerns • cover all NHS services, NHS funded services and healthcare wherever you go in the country • will support and advise you throughout the whole complaints procedure
At the time of going to press, it was unclear exactly what the position is for Surrey residents. Try your local Health Watch for details.
• provide you with an NHS complaints advocate where needed This is different and separate to the PATIENT ADVICE & LIAISON SERVICE (P.A.L.S) in each NHS Trust where:
Contacts VOICEABILITY - Tel: 0300 300 5454 Fax: 0300 088 3762 A: Mount Pleasant House, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge CB3 0RN E: nhscomplaints@voiceability.org W: www. nhscomplaintsadvocacy.org
• P.A.L.S staff are NHS employees of that Trust. • only covers concerns about an individual Trust’s services

LOCAL CHARITY
THIS MONTH’S CHARITY Supplied by:
“Do you Hear my Voice?” My name is Mary Bourne and I am a freelance choir leader. I run weekly choirs for adults, schools and the workplace. My work has included running workshops for the homeless to performing in the presence of HRHs Queen Elizabeth, Princes Harry, Charles and William. 2018 marks the 10 year anniversary since the start of my company “Singing it back”.
Mary Bourne - Singing it Back
To celebrate this special milestone, my choir members have been busy recording an original composition of mine called “Do you hear my voice”? The song was recorded at the Visconti Studio, Kingston University. 76 singers and 24 wind orchestra members came together for the first time to capture my wonderfully rousing anthem, “Do you hear my voice” which, I hope, will resonate with many. I am so proud to have written my composition and am thrilled to be co-ordinating and managing a fundraising awareness campaign around the song. The music score for “do you hear my voice” will be available to any choir, individual, school, workplace or singing group around the world free of charge with voluntary donations to two charities ; Action for Happiness and AnxietyUK. We live in a very fast-paced world, where our voices can sometimes feel lost, misunderstood or undervalued. Singing as part of a choir allows for us to feel heard, it encourages good listening skills. Singing is an icebreaker, a stress reliever, a confidence builder. It reduces the feelings of anxiety and depression, lowers blood pressure and raises endorphins. There are over 40,000 choirs in the UK with people singing for all sorts of reasons: Health, wellbeing, performance, stress relief, the list is endless!
work. Hearing 76 singers perform my song has been a dream come true, it would be truly amazing if it could be sung in every corner of the country whilst raising funds for the two charities I have chosen. I have so many personal stories from singers whose lives have been enhanced by singing in one of my choirs. The “do you hear my voice” fundraising campaign is my message of hope. Together we can raise our voices for a happy, healthier tomorrow. For details of my work and to see a short film of the fundraising project visit www. singingitback.co.uk. To donate to the appeal please go to www.mydonate.bt.com/ fundraisers/doyouhearmyvoice

COMMUNITY PERSON
Jhoana Serna-Nalton
Supplied by: Joel Community Shelters
Jhoana became involved with the work of Night Shelters in 2007. Her work has involved various aspects, including most recently Joel Community Services. In 2016 Jhoana became Community Fundraiser and Grants Officer. ‘I was drawn to Joel as I had heard of the life changing work of the project via national charity Housing Justice while working on the pilot of their Night Shelter Quality Mark Scheme. When a post became available, I instantly applied.’ The Joel Community Services provide food, friendship and shelter to those experiencing homelessness. ‘What I love about Joel is the way it facilitates a community response, eg. awareness raising and funds or goods from local schools such as King Athelstan Primary, who’s Rota Kids club raised money towards meals for guests’ Jhoana remembers visiting one of Joel’s fundraising pages and being touched by the comments and dedication of the community. ‘One married couple dedicated a significant wedding anniversary to Joel and all gifts were directed to the night shelter’. This work was recognised on the back of funding via The Joseph Rank Trust, who nominated Joel in 2016 for the annual Christian Funders’ Forum Awards under Best Social Action. ‘Winning Gold up against some excellent UK wide charities was a recognition of the hard work and commitment of our faithful volunteers, partners and donors. In October 2017 Jhoana was appointed as Deputy Manager of the Night Shelter. Jhoana is experienced, having run the Welfare services for a homeless shelter in Camden for several years, and working with the American Church in London’s Soup Kitchen. ‘The role of Fundraiser gave me insight which has lead to new funding avenues opening, such as Comic Relief - Red Nose Day funding, as well as being selected as one of the recipients for the Co-op Local Community Fund, and John Lewis Kingston have just nominated Joel Community Services to be part of their Community Matters scheme. Jhoana works directly with guests and supporting volunteers, ‘it is a privilege to walk alongside our guests and facilitate their journey of healing and transformation, to see guests believe in themselves. It’s also heartwarming to see previous guests come back to Joel to become volunteers’.
9
We have an emphasis on healthy living, including wholesome meals, sharing life’s ups and downs’, and giving back. Guests are also provided with Psychosocial Intervention Therapy by experienced Manager, Dan Wheeler, who has worked at the Night Shelter since it began in 2014. How to support us: 1. Financial donations mean that we can focus on the most urgent needs of our guests 2. Encourage your employer to donate us staff time or run a fundraising event 3. Other donations: Warm socks, new boxers, Oyster cards with max £5 credit 4. Volunteer (minimum of 2x 4 hour shifts per month) 5. The Co-op Local Community Fund is now open for members to give their 1% to Joel Community Services. This funding period is for 11 months until the 27 October 2018. Make sure you register to become a member and select us for the Fund. Also, monies raised from Co-op carrier bag sales will go to local charities in Kingston, including Joel. Phone your nan! It’s that time of year again. Christmas is upon us and many of our thoughts are with family and friends as we traipse around the shops for last minute gifts. Often we are asked to help a charity, ‘by buying this product we are contributing to a good cause’. We are continually bombarded with charitable appeals.
LOVE KINGSTON Supplied by: Tessa Kind - Love Kingston
But do you actually think about those charities? What do they actually do? How do they affect the people they purport to be helping? I was reminded of some of those questions while briefing college students for a film they are about to make for us. I told them about The Vintage Banquet. How a lunch club can be the only connection with the outside world some people will have in a week. I bet the thing those students remember most is me saying ’phone your nan.’ Recently I visited one of the charities that Love Kingston gave a grant to in February. I turned up unannounced at The Vintage Banquet, a lunchtime club for the over 60s in St Peter’s Church, Norbiton. I’m so glad I did. I was offered a seat at the table of 25 or so guests for a Remembrance Sunday lunch. I was surprised to see 3 burly volunteer chaps from the Joel Project cooking the meal, all very relaxed, enjoying themselves. Guests had just finished word games with Clive and a lovely lady who comes every week for an exercise class to music. They were by now anticipating a delicious meal. And we weren’t disappointed. Home made vegetable soup followed by toad in the hole, roasties, fresh veg and gravy (plus jokes from Rv Peter Holmes), and finished off with apple pie and custard, all beautifully cooked. Everyone seemed happy chatting and sharing anecdotes.
11
Following my whistle stop tour of the Joel Project next door (impressive) was a game of bingo. The bingo caller was hilarious, making up the calls much to the amusement of the banqueteers. Meeting the guests really brought home how important it is to think about those who are feeling isolated and to reach out. If you do want to give this Christmas, Love Kingston would be delighted to receive your money. We ensure that every penny stays local and that there is a fund available for future need in our borough. Oh, and if you are fortunate to still have yours, don’t forget to ‘phone your nan…’ Merry Christmas from Tessa and the Love Kingston team. POLICE ADVICE
Hello Readers! Times; they are indeed a-changing! Due to the much publicised budget cuts and need to make savings, many police front counters across London will be closing in the near future. So, against this background, how will you be able to contact police? It will still be possible to visit police at the front counter in Kingston Police Station, open 24/7.
Supplied by: Alison McWinnie - MET Police
Since 6th November 2017 every Ward in Kingston has 2 Dedicated Ward Officers (DWOs) and a PCSO. They are here to listen to your concerns and to work with partners to prevent crime and reduce Anti-Social Behaviour. Not sure which ward you are on? Head to www.Met.Police.uk and type in your postcode on the front page in the ‘Find Your Area’ section; then press enter or return. This will take you directly to the page for your local Safer Neighbourhood Team where you will find the top reported crimes for your ward and how these compare with Kingston Borough and London. You can also find out who your local police team are; their recent activities and there is also an online function where you can tell them what your concerns are. It is also now possible to report crime via the Met Police website using a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or computer, whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. The online service can also be used to pass information to police via “tell us about”. The process has been made as simple and easy as possible. You are taken through a series of online steps to make your report and the
very first question asks you if this is in fact an emergency. Emergencies should not be reported online; do continue to call 999 in the normal way and police officers will respond. However, online reporting is a very easy alternative to calling the non-emergency number 101 and quicker than waiting in a telephone queue at busy times. Each report will be triaged by an experienced call handler within 45 minutes of being submitted and will then be investigated by the Met’s Telephone and Digital Investigation Unit. If the crime is of a serious nature, officers will attend. Simply click “report a crime” on the Met website to begin the process (https://www. met.police.uk/report/how-to-report-a-crime/) and follow the online steps, receiving a reference number at the end. Wishing you a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

KINGSTON ROTARY
Happy Christmas from Kingston Rotary Thanks to everyone who came to Kingston Community Fireworks event at Weir Archer Athletics & Fitness Stadium or Kingsmeadow as it used to be known. It was a tremendous evening, the weather was perfect and we have raised lots of money for local charities so many thanks. Many of our Youth competitions are taking place in the next couple of months and we work with lots of local schools in the Kingston borough. Young Chef Competition is open to students in full-time education between the ages 11 and 17 and they are encouraged to learn how to cook a healthy meal, develop food presentation skills, consider food hygiene issues, develop organisational and planning skills and develop an ability to cope in a demanding situation. Youth Speaks Competition is a UK wide event for public speaking, something most of us have to do at some point in our lives. It gives young people a wonderful opportunity to gain confidence, work together as a team of three, research their chosen topic, meet deadlines and acquire an essential life skill. Kingston Rotary Club has been involved in organising this competition since the 1980’s. All the winners of these competitions go onto to district finals and will culminate in a UK National Final. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) are a fun and intensive training programme for 14 to 30 year olds. This offers the leaders of the future a chance to get a head start at an early age. Talented young people attend a seminar, camp, or workshop – generally a week in length – organised by Rotary. We will be joining in the Graham Child Carol Concert at New Malden Methodist church on 6th December and Santa will be busy visiting local streets, accompanied by carols and collectors from local charities taking the message of Christmas out to young and old alike. Santa very much welcomes many of his younger admirers coming out and bringing their parents with them to say hello and make a contribution to his collection. But recognising the need for parents to enjoy a quiet night he will only be visiting between 6-8PM! Stay tuned in to our Facebook page to see which dates Santa’s sleigh might be visiting your street. In addition we will be collecting in Eden Walk on Sunday 3rd December so come along and say hello or if you are travelling on the M25 Santa and his sleigh will be at Cobham services on Friday 8th and Monday 11th December. HEALTH & WELLBEING
Yoga for the Soul
Supplied by: Joanna Blundell
Do you feel full up or a bit ‘running on empty’? Do you even notice the difference or are you too busy to check in? One of the biggest learnings from my yoga practice is that I remember to check in, observe whether the tank is full or the red light is on - and then adjust accordingly. Normally for me, that involves slowing down a little. Like most of us, I often try to pack as much into every day as I can. It’s great to have a full and diverse life, but we all need to have down time too. And we all know, deep down, what gets us back on track. For me, I generally plan a night at home with whatever feels good - not just plonked in front of the TV! A little craft project (homemade christmas cards, anyone?), cooking a delicious meal from scratch or maybe a bath with candles and my favourite music, or something different - being outside in nature, a midwinter bonfire under a winter moon… These kinds of activities - engaging head and head in craft, engaging the senses is a fragrant bath, or doing something completely out of the norm, like being outside on a cold night - root us in the present moment. Any that - no more or less - is yoga. The very first word in what is considered the principal text of yoga, Patanjali’s Sutras, is ‘now’ - and it is an instruction. Now! This moment is what matters. The next moment will follow and the next and the next as each breath flows in and out of us. But we can only deal with each one at a time. It is an especially valuable teaching when we feel overwhelmed. But if we learn to say - now! Now, I need to listen and to

be still and to do something that brings me joy! The teaching of yoga is to observe, and in learning to listen to ourselves and our particular needs at any given moment, we learn how to maintain balance, and limit those times when we feel overwhelmed. Warmest wishes for this special time of year to you all! • Joanna Blundell is available for private yoga classes at your home and teaches weekly classes at Thames Sailing Club. Comprehension troubles? Books are the answer!
LEARNING Supplied by: Celia Osborne Numberworks’n’words
Many children struggle with ‘comprehension’, despite reading confidently. Celia from NumberWorks’nWords suggests that a likely reason is that comprehension texts are increasingly taken from classic fiction and the new GCSE syllabus expects children to understand Victorian texts easily. Many use figurative language, vocabulary and sayings that are no longer in use, whilst the life described is very different from now and modern children don’t necessarily relate to it. Introduce your children to classic fiction Hmm, that’s easier said than done – let’s face it, few 9s, 10s or 11s will actually choose to read ‘old fashioned books’! Modern books have exciting covers, simpler language and the stories usually move faster. What about reading them aloud? Yes, that’s right, read them to your child – even those in years 7 and 8 in secondary school. The wonderful thing about reading children books like this is that though the text is hard for them to read themselves, they generally enjoy listening. If you’re good at accents or like to be a bit dramatic, don’t hold back! Not only will their vocabulary improve, but they will be introduced to new worlds and magical characters. Encourage your child to comment on what’s happening to ensure that they fully grasp it, whilst helping them develop a deeper understanding of the text and the subtleties of the language. So, on those long Winter nights get a steaming cup of hot chocolate (glass of wine), snuggle up and read. It’s a great way to have quality family time without the use of technological devices – oh, and if you never read these books as a child, you’re in for a treat. A few suggestions: • Tom’s Midnight Garden (a 1960s boy switches in time to late Victorian times.) • The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and other books by Joan Aiken (written in 1960s set in the 19th century) • The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolken Lord of the Rings for those that love The Hobbit 21
• Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (written in old fashioned language for younger children) • The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis. • Charlotte Sometimes by Penelope Farmer (a really thoughtful book, partly set in England ww1) • The land of Green Ginger Noel Langley (about Aladdin’s son – a truly funny book) • Smith by Leon Garfield (written in Victorian language and has a real Dickensian feel)) • Oliver Twist by Dickens (why not – most children know the story) How can I help them after that? Even with amazing vocabulary and understanding of the text, many children still need a ‘bit extra’ to help them achieve their best in reading, writing and maths. Whether it’s to help their confidence, fill in gaps in their understanding or to work towards 11+ or high grades at GCSE, that’s where NumberWorks’nWords comes in. A fantastic learning environment which children really enjoy, all geared towards helping each child as an individual. SPECIAL FEATURE
So Here it is - Merry Christmas!
Supplied by: Leanna Carl - Omni Local
I don’t know what it is… maybe its the lights, the music, great food, the general mood or exchanging special-somethings with those you love; whatever it is - I always live for this time of year! If anything, for those who aren’t entirely traditional, it is simply a means to spread joy and good will and an excuse to get the whole family together for a celebration. I know this can sound daunting to some, and let’s be honest, it can be a lot of work, a lot of money and somewhat chaotic when everyone gets together...but when it’s just once a year, you have to soak it up for all its worth! We only get so many Christmases before they’re outgrown, or before families begin drifting apart on their own adventures, so why not pull out all the stops? Make memories. Don’t let the memories fade away, get your camera out, post the silly videos to social media - you’ll love looking back on them later on. Even if it’s slightly embarrassing, we all have our traditions and family time is important, so make the moments count and do some documenting for the future. If anything, it could be something to show future grandchildren.
A sure-fire way to get everyone laughing and smiling is to play a few party games such as charades or musical chairs, to host family quizzes (you can even find things like music quizzes on youtube to test your knowledge of popular tunes over the years) or whip out the board games like scrabble and trivial pursuit. There’s no guarantee that there won’t be any arguments or the odd cheat, but it’s all in good fun! Don’t let the stress get you down Although it takes a lot of planning and working out your finances to provide the perfect family celebration, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to run around after everyone and let things build up too much. Remember to delegate certain responsibilities when planning for the big day, get the kids involved in cleaning up so they can help make room for the Christmas tree and get to decorating; get the whole family helping with the cooking or have visiting relatives bring side dishes or separate courses themselves, so that everyone contributes with their specialty dish; spend some of your Christmas shopping time online and see what offers are on. Research can save you a bit of money and getting some of your gifts or groceries delivered will definitely save you some agro just be sure to thank the person who delivers it all (it won’t hurt to give your local postman a Christmas gift/tip for the extra help either)!

Enjoy yourself from time to time There might be a lot going on, but this doesn’t mean you can’t still have your fun or put your feet up now and then on those chillier days. Set aside a little bit of time for some vegging out in your comfiest pyjamas and slippers, watch a movie with friends or family and indulge a little in some comfort food, or wrap up in your warmest outerwear and take a brisk walk through the park to organise your thoughts. You could even join a photography trail and appreciate the weather change. Try not to dread Christmas, it isn’t just a money-grabbing annual event to work extra hours for and get through without an argument! It’s once a year and you shouldn’t waste it. If you can, do something on your own if you need to get a bit of an escape from it all. Even if it’s just sitting in a coffee shop and writing your Christmas lists, you’re allowed to take a breather. Looking forward to 2018 Don’t spend New Year’s alone at home or turning in for the night at 10 o’clock (unless you really want/need to!). Whether you’re working, at home with the family or spending the night at your local pub or in a club, you’ve got to see the new year in with a bang if you want to feel the drive and excitement to make it a year that counts! Sure, we all run into obstacles and we all run into hard times that can’t be prevented, but why not shoot for the stars and assume that 2018 will be YOUR YEAR? If you set yourself goals early, you are more likely to achieve them and if you see the end of the year as
a negative, for example, your mind takes you to: “What have I done with 2017? Am I ever going to quit smoking/lose weight?” you’ll put too much pressure on yourself. If however, you see the new year as a fresh start, an excuse to try harder or to live larger, hearing the countdown to a better lifestyle will amp you up to get started. Try and ring in the new year with the people you care about the most, even if that means a quick phonecall to wish them a happy new year.

A Festive to-do List
Supplied by: Leanna Carl - Omni Local
There is no better time than the present to get the place looking tip-top for your family and party guests. Particularly if you have a busy Christmas coming this year, full of family fun and over-the-top dos.Below are some of the ideas you should try not to overlook. Make the bathroom(s) shine! Check on any grouting issues or dingy tiles, unclog drains and freshen up your loo. These are regular jobs you’ve probably kept an eye on already, but some things can get overlooked because the bathroom seems like such a clean atmosphere to be in, or some jobs can take a little extra work, for example black mould removal, shower head replacing or re-grouting.
Fridges and freezers It could be prime time for you to empty out all the unnecessary and expired products filling the fridge or to give the freezer a defrost even. This could free up a lot of room for your Christmas turkey, veggies and any goodies for your Christmas or New Year’s party.
Just be sure to protect your hands when doing the tougher jobs that sometimes involve bleach and other strong chemicals stock up on rubber gloves and ventilate the room as much as possible. Furniture Check nothing needs mending or reupholstering, from your dinner table to your kitchen cupboards or your sofa cushions and guest beds. You may find the fabrics on your sofas have been harbouring certain smells over time or that you have a creaky stair or loose cupboard door - this isn’t a huge issue but can make you feel as though your house won’t impress guests as much and can potentially lead to accidents later. For jobs like this you can always call your local handyman for help if you feel less confident fixing it up yourself. Otherwise you may have to look into a replacement of certain things.
29
You’ll probably need all the space you can get for supplies, so now is a great time for it. The cleaner your fridge is looking before the big day, the better you’ll feel about prepping things early and storing them away for the feast. Doing things bit by bit will make things a lot easier on you and keep stress levels low. Floors More of an afterthought, as party guests could ruin things again, but you should consider a nice sweep and mop. After the party ends, clear away any decorations/used party poppers and check there are no stains on the carpets. You may want to give rugs a nice shampoo when you start fresh in the new year.

LOCAL PROPERTY INVESTOR
Why are you losing tens of thousands of pounds?
Supplied by: Alan Frost – Simplify Property
People are very clued up about when comes to buying and selling a house or flat. Portals like Rightmove and Zoopla have so much information on what is on the market, and what has sold in your area. Price, layout, condition, special features (or not) – all of this information is easily and readily available, so much so that this is little an estate agent can add (apart from unrealistic valuations as they chase the commission from getting your instruction).

RESIDENTIAL ESTATE AGENT
Winkworth Surbiton is here….
Supplied by: Jon & Claire McGrath
Winkworth is one of London’s largest estate agencies, and is pleased to introduce our new office in Surbiton. The office, which has just officially launched, is located at 26 Brighton Road and offers residential sales, lettings and property management services to home movers in the local area. Winkworth Surbiton houses an expert team of property professionals. Our office is headed up by Sales Director Allison Steele, who brings with her a wealth of local knowledge having lived and worked in a sales role in Surbiton for more than 20 years. We are set to capitalise on our knowledge of the local market, as well as Winkworth’s network of almost 100 offices, providing a valuable link to buyers across the country. Allison has said “As a local resident myself, I’m very excited about this opportunity to run the new office and work alongside a brilliant team. Having lived, raised a family and worked here for over 20 years, I can safely say I know all of Surbiton’s best features and hidden gems. If anyone is thinking of moving home or would just like a little advice on the market or local area, please don’t hesitate to pop in for a cup of tea or call us for a friendly chat. We look forward to meeting, getting to know and helping many residents find their perfect new home in years to come.” The office is owned by Claire & Jonathan McGrath, being owners means that we will not compromise on our service. Having moved back home to the UK from Australia over nine months ago, the couple have a rich history of more than 15 years working in property, and hope to use their extensive industry experience to help local home movers ‘see things differently’.

This has been a long time in the making and we’re thrilled to finally be here and to set up our own estate agency here in Surbiton. Having already navigated the UK estate agency process in some of our own personal ventures, we felt this this was the perfect location with a buoyant property market and fantastic community feel. We also have a great support network as part of Winkworth we’re connected to almost 100 other offices, which enables us to tap into an extended market, more buyers, better property exposure and essentially provide the highest level of estate agency service possible. The Winkworth Surbiton office is located at 26 Brighton Road, Surbiton, KT6 5PQ. For more information on the local property market or to book a market appraisal, please contact the team on 020 3861 0010 or email: surbiton@winkworth.co.uk

COMPETITION REVIEW
The Coronation Hall – Surbiton This month we visited The Coronation Hall – alias the Tardis. This Wetherspoons pub is not a classic one, it is steeped in history which is depicted in its theatrical old movie memorabilia. Originally a lecture theatre opened the day before the coronation of King George V, 1911, later the Roxy Cinema, then Ritz bingo hall. The huge high gold arched beams give it a spectacular crowning ambiance. Each night has a great value Special meal. Eggs are RSPCA free range, dairy products and potatoes are 100% British, British and Irish Beef, Rainforest Alliance certified coffee and sustainable fish too, which was a nice surprise. Choices include vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. With large portions of delicious chicken/bbq rib combo and mixed grill we were struggling to fit in a dessert, but the refreshing knickerbocker glory and millionaire sundae still slid down; shame we were too full for the American pancakes and cheesecake. You can also hear each other, the acoustics

are great and no background music, which is wonderful. It serves a vast array of draft/ bottled real ales, craft beers, wines and cider from around the world, cocktails, lagers, spirits. Drinks start at just £1.99! Popular with all ages, commuters love to pop in on the way home from work. CONGRATULATIONS TO PREVIOUS COMPETITION WINNER SANDY MCLINTOCK, WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR SESSION WITH FLOURISH WELLBEING!
