My main aim in this photo-shoot was to adapt upon my summer photo-shoot and develop the ideas I had in order to portray my genre of ‘Once Upon a Time’ through subject matter and editing. In this shoot I wanted to present my genre through using myself and my family members as models in the photos, which will immediately show ‘Once Upon a Time’ because it will give the viewers an idea of my life meaning they will have a better insight into my photos. I also want to portray the personality of the people shown in the photos by combining the photos of them with photos of objects and landscapes that could represent that aspect of them. I wanted to adapt from my original idea in my Summer shoot because I thought that there would be more that I could focus on with this idea and would relate better to my chosen genre.
MAIN AIM...
f/5.3 ISO 100
f/3.7 ISO 100
In these photos I used my brother as a model in order to display my genre. Straight away the photos relate to ‘Once Upon a Time’ because it gives the viewer an insight into my personal life. I took the photos of my model using a flash and manual camera settings so that his face was bright and easily seen so that the edits I wanted to make would work in order to follow up with my idea for the shoot of the viewer being able to see what kind of personality the models have. So in this case the viewers could interpret their personalities in different ways, In the photo directly above I first edited the portrait of my brother in order to make his face brighter so that when I blend moded the landscape photo over the top his face wouldn’t be too dark and hard to see. The landscape photo was of a telegraph pole with the lines darting out from the side of it. I positioned the photo so the lines could appear to run along the models face be3fore applying a blend mode to join the two photos together. This made it appear like my model was standing in a spot light because of how only his face can be seen and everything else is dark. This portrays ‘Once Upon a Time because the lines can bring out the fact that he has split personality from how the telegraph lines break up his face, he viewer can also see that he is a bit of a ‘joker; because of the smirk on his face. The second photo could also bring out the same personality, this time I layered a photo of both telegraph lines and a orange leaved tree. So the line break of the shape of his face portraying a split personality but the bright colour of the leave could also mean that he has a happy personality as well.
DIGITAL EDITS
This photo again uses my brother as the model. When editing it I used a photo of wooden blinds against a window looking onto an evening including blue colours at the top and orange colours at the bottom. After blend moding the two photos together it made it look as it there were lines running across the models face. This could be interpreted by the viewer to make him seem to have a shy or secretive personality because his body language shows that he is trying to hide his face in first the shadows at the bottom of the photo and then the blinds across his face. I think this is my favourite edit from the shoot because it looks very professional due to the pitch black background which is contrasted well by the colours on the models face.

In this edit I combined a portrait of my brother with a landscape photo of a window. I used blend modes in order to join the two photos which made it appear as if there was a shadow across my brothers face. I then applied a colour overlay to the photo which changed the tones of the lighter parts of it. This photo can be related to my genre ‘Once Upon a Time’ because the shadows appearing across his face could represent that he feels like he is trapped on the inside. This could mean in terms of emotions or in terms of things that are happening in his life such as school work. This is then supported by his expression on his face in which he appears to be scared or worried due to his bold eyes. The colour overlay then finishes off the photo by adding a depressing and sad vibe to the photo.

This edit is another self portrait of myself. I have blend moded a photo of a tree behind me in which you can see the rough branches of the trees appearing to twine around my shoulder and travel up my face. I like this edit because when I combined the two photos the backgrounds of them was completely blacked out making it seem like I was standing in a completely black room. This means that the viewers eyes are drawn directly to the subject of the photo because it is the only area of colour in it. I finished the edit off with a gradient overlay of a blue colour that progresses into a warm yellow. This emphasises the colour of the leaves and makes the photo seem happy and cheerful. This portrays my genre because, as in some of my previous edits, the branches could represent creativity and the way the branches link together and flow out from eachother could present ideas.
f/7.4 ISO 100
I have created this edit to make the silhouette of a tree and the leaves of another tree cover my face through using blend modes. ‘Once upon a time can be related to this photo becuase the combination of the landscpae photo could suggest a love of nature or a calm personality. I finished the edit with a black and white filter in Photoshop to add more emotion to the photo. Doing this made my mouth appear non-existant which could be interpreted to mean that I could be quite a quiet or shy person. However the look on my face opposes this making my emotions seem almost angry or frustrated at something which could represent inner feelings therefore portraying my genre because the veiwers can take different things from the photo learning about the model and since the model in this case is me they are learning about the photographer and then possibly the reason into why I took the photo.
In my final Level 5 edit I combined the use of blend modes to join two photos together and a technique from Level 4 of using a white marker pen to write words and shapes to help emphasise both the feelings and thoughts of the photo and the important visual aspects. I wrote the words along the shape of my shoulder and head which adds a ‘border’ border to the piece making the viewer concentrate on that part of the composition. Finally I cropped the image to remove some of the leaves in the background because I believed that they distracted the eye from the main focus of the photo, so now the portrait of myself takes up the most space on the frame portraying the purpose clearer.
