This Mock Up idea is based upon the work of Liz Deschenes and how she has used colour in her pieces. So to adapt from her work I chose a photo from Level 5 and imported them into Photoshop where I applied a spectrum of colour overlays to the photos along with a blend mode, which made the colour sort of stick to the lighter areas of the photo. My thoughts behind the photos are that each different colour portrays different emotions for the same photo. Along with the photos are definitions of how each of the colours relate to emotions in both positive ways and negative ways. To complete the mock up I experimented with different arrangements of the photos so that the colours flowed through the spectrum from one to the other Before deciding on this one because it resembled the artists work the most.

GREEN. Balance Positive: Harmony, balance, refreshment, universal love, rest, restoration, reassurance, environmental awareness, equilibrium, peace. Negative: Boredom, stagnation.

BLUE. Intellectual. Positive: Intelligence, communication, trust, efficiency, serenity, duty, logic, coolness, reflection, calm. Negative: Coldness, aloofness, lack of emotion, unfriendliness

VIOLET. Spiritual Positive: Spiritual awareness, containment, vision, luxury, authenticity, truth, quality. Negative: Introversion, decadence, suppression, inferiority.

COLLAGE/ JOINER

In this mock up idea I adapted on my possible idea of a joiner that I made digitally and created it manually. I did this by importing all the images onto Photoshop before resizing them so that the photos in the middle of the joiner were bigger than the photos on the outside. I then cut them out and stuck them down to a piece of white paper overlapping the photos to create the illusion that the photo is a whole. This can be related to Lyle Ashton Harris’ work, who I researched into in my Level 7 because of how the photos get smaller from the middle to the edges of the composition. It also relates to Jeff Walls work in Milk because it presents thoughts feelings and emotions in terms of ‘Once Upon a Time’ because of how the collection of photos makes the image seem broken up which could represent the feeling of isolation. This is supported by the fact that the model I have used in the photos is standing alone.

DOUBLE EXPOSURE

In my final Mock Up idea I used Photoshop and blend modes to fuse three photos together. Two portraits and one landscape. My thoughts behind the photo and how it relates to ‘Once Upon a Time’ is that the two faces represent inner and outer emotions and personalities. Inner emotions and personalities are shown through the background face and portray a quiet, shy personality which is supported through how he appears to be hinding behind himself and the lines of the landscape photo. The face in the foreground of the photo show a more confident and outgoing person due to the smirk on his face, how he faces the camera fully and how he is looking straight into the viewers eyes. This idea shows a clear resemblance of James Wellings work because of how I have combined several images into one composition. Jeff Wall’s work in Milk is also portrayed in this edit due to the thoughts feelings and emotions that have been displayed. I could develop this Mock Up into a final piece by working with more colour to represent different emotions. Through either colour or gradient overlays. Doing this would give the piece a completely different feel and would change depending on how each viewer looks at it. Using a gradient overly would portray James Wellings work more because it is a technique he has used.
