In the church I grew up in a new “camp meeting” song book was released each year. One of my favorites read, “the anointing makes a difference what a difference it makes. The anointing makes the difference when it comes all else can wait. It’s dynamic, emphatic, prophetic, ecstatic, the anointing makes a difference what a difference it makes.” I was taught early on that it’s not talent and ability, but the anointing that makes the lasting difference. However, I struggled with the balance because I didn’t consider the dependence on the anointing an excuse not to offer my best. As I study Scripture, I learn its purpose and how to operate and grow in the anointing. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance reads that "anointing" is a special endowment of the Holy Spirit. Its Koine Greek word is charisma and refers to the teaching ministry of the Spirit. This shows us that the Spirit of God teaches us all truth as Jesus said in John 16:13, and will tell us what is yet to come—speaking only what He hears and glorifying Jesus. The anointing is the best "Bible college" to be enrolled in and is an exciting adventure with God! After His water baptism and 40-day fast, Jesus went to the synagogue in Nazareth, returning to Galilee "in the power of the Spirit." In Luke 4:18, He read Isaiah 61 from the scroll. Then He handed the scroll back to the attendant, declaring, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." This was Jesus' manifesto, publicly declaring His anointing as the Savior of the world. The apostle Paul made reference to the anointing in 2 Corinthians 1:21 saying, "Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and established the guarantee with the Spirit in our hearts." Looking closely into this, we see that, through Christ, God gives us His anointing and sets us apart to minister with His gifts in power, sealing and consecrating us with the Spirit, being firmly grounded in Jesus. The Anointing does not point to the believer, but to God who empowers the believer. However, Jesus is the Anointed One, and you are a conduit for His power. When you walk in the anointing you have power to heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead and cast out demons in His Name.
1 John 2:20 reads, "But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things." The word "know" in this verse refers to the believer intuitively knowing truth from false teaching, holding firmly onto the gospel message and spiritual truth they originally received. The anointing keeps us in the truth by the Holy Spirit as we stay humble. The anointing is upon you by the Spirit of God, teaching you what Jesus said and leading you further into the Scriptures. The anointing of the Spirit guides you as you read and consume the Scripture, loving the Lord, hungering and thirsting for His righteousness. Five things you can do to continue to grow in the precious anointing: 1. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit every day, adoring Him (2 Cor. 13:14). Talk to Him directly, building friendship with Him, continuing dialogue with Him about everything. Invite Him to your daily Bible reading and ask Him questions. Write down His answers when He speaks to you. 2. Keep your heart pure, aware of His kindness and holiness. He is the Spirit of justice and burning in Isaiah 4:4 which is a purifying and cleansing fire that washes away sin and prepares for His glory and presence. According to Matthew 3:11, Jesus baptizes us in the Holy Spirit and fire, the experience occurring on the Day of Pentecost which empowers us for proclaiming the gospel. It also sanctifies us to walk in holiness in our lives. 3. Let the Holy Spirit teach you the Scriptures (1 John 2:27). As you do this, you will be assured that you remain in Him as He teaches you the truth and then you are to go and teach others what He has taught you. You are anointed to bring God's transformation to the world. 4. Value and cherish the anointing, not grieving the Spirit by our words and actions (Eph. 4:30). When we value and cherish His anointing, we make room for it in every part of our lives, expressing love and respect to Him, being careful with our words and conduct, cultivating His presence everywhere we go. As we do this we make ourselves available for Him to use us any time and see Him move in power through us. 5. Glorify Jesus (John 16:14). If you give testimony about miracles, signs and wonders, give reference to Him throughout all of it, because He was the One who accomplished the ministry. You were there, but He did the work through you and those with you. He manifested the healings and miracles, so give Him all the credit. Remember it’s the anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage and brings freedom. May we always treasure the moving of the Spirit and His anointing. We’ve all ministered with and probably ministered without. I prefer to have anointing rather than performance and production. Because He is, I am, Tim R. Barker 3

ne of the added competitions during “Masters Week”, (for those non-golfers, The Masters is one of 4 professional golf tournaments during the year that are called “the majors”), is the annual Drive, Chip and Putt competition for youth ages 7-15 (www.drivechipandputt.com) As I was watching the competition one of the participating families was being featured because they had 3 of their children competing. One of their children complained that this competition was causing a lot of pressure in their life, to which the parent responded, “Pressure is a Privilege”. That phrase really struck a chord with me because as ministers we all to often know pressure of many kinds. This pressure of stress can cause many negative feelings, emotions and even physical problems but stress or pressure can also be a sign of forward movement and progress. Stress is a sign that you are alive and not dead. It is a sign that something is very important to you and you are wanting to see success. It is a sign that we don’t understand everything and are wanting to grow. It is also a sign that we have a real enemy who does not want you to grow, succeed, mature or invade his territory.
Jesus’ response to stress or pressure was prayer. He received strength from the Lord to continue moving forward in obedience to our Heavenly Father. Luke 22:44 (NIV) And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Psalm 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. 1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Trials A testing; by implication, trustworthiness - trial, trying. Perseverance / Patience Steadfastness, constancy, endurance - a man who is unswerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings 1 Peter 1:6-7 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. James 5:7-11 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. G-Day, Rendezvous with Eagles - Stephen Douglas Wiehe (A personal diary on the Desert Storm Invasion of Iraq pp 79, 81 “I thought, “Could it be possible to get hypothermia in the desert?” I was asking God why it was going to be such a miserable night to die. I was praying and working at the same time. I think a lot of the guys were praying. I felt it would be the last night I would spend on earth.” “The same weather that made us so miserable was the same weather that actually impeded the Iraqi plan of attack. Could it be that the rains caused enough water runoff into the wadi to stop them? There was a sense of relief in our platoon. I didn’t know what
actually stopped them, but I attributed it to God, the rain, and the prayers that went up from the 101st.” Steve Wiehe - Personal thoughts on Desert Storm “Hanging out with the 2nd Brigade of the 101stAirborne Division during Desert Storm was full of pressure and stress. We defended the President’s “Line in the Sand.” Our unit pushed forward into a “Die in Place” position at Hafaral Batin and was part of the 1st unit to “Strike Deep” on Ground Operations Day in the largest and longest air assault in United States history. These military operations created “face your mortality” and “face your creator” moments. While making final preparations for Ground Operations Day on February 24, 1991, a time of reflection and prayer took over. The reality of war was upon us. The enormity of the event was before us. I could feel God’s presence and an inner peace that HE was in control. I knew everything was going to be ok. Within a few minutes after the President’s announcement, four battalions of the 101st Airborne Division began loading their sixty-six Blackhawk helicopters. We crammed inside ours one at a time, taking our seats on the ruck sacks. Once aboard, we closed the door and the engines began to warm up. An over the top stressful day,YES.. but God was in control. Leaning on Him during roller coaster days doesn’t seem so hard…. after that Day. Receiving that inner peace that He’s always in control. I can count on it." Marathon Faith - Motivation from the Greatest Endurance Runners of the Bible - John Van Pay pp 125, 92, Introduction “How can you develop endurance? How can you not quit in the face of hardship and pain? Acquiring the wisdom needed to develop endurance comes from applying the experience of others. In every chapter, you will discover a new endurance runner listed in Hebrews 11.” Introduction “When you arrive at the fork in the road of life, will you choose to risk it all or play it safe? Giving in to the temptation to stay comfortable will plateau your growth. Those who never step out in faith will eventually settle for an average, boring life.” p. 125 “God taught me to be dependent upon His strength and grace during my weakness. How can the gold be purified without the furnace? We all want to stay on the mountaintop, but this vital lesson can only be experienced in the valley. Your pain can be your greatest teacher. It can certainly give you an eternal perspective.” p. 92 Never Give Up!: Lessons The Lord Taught Me When I Wanted to Quit! - Mike Allard pp. 82 & 85 “Tears coursed down my cheeks like a river. My heart was broken. All the years I had already given seemed to be empty. All my attempts to help and make forward progress seemed to have amounted to nothing. All I could think of was the rejection of the very people I had come to help. Christ experienced that same rejection when He came to seek and to save that which was lost. He faced the rejection of mankind. Perhaps you’ve been rejected by someone you love? You’ve done everything you can do. You’ve given and given. You’ve sacrificed and loved and yet you’re ready to quit. Let me encourage you to hold on a little longer. A miracle could be just around the corner. I needed emotional healing… I needed Christ to touch me! And I found… Sometimes Christ carries my grief through others. Sometimes Christ carries my grief through my wife. Sometimes Christ carries my grief through a friend. Sometimes Christ carries 5
my grief through a healing word. Sometimes Christ carries my grief through a time of prayer. Sometimes Christ carries my grief through worship. Sometimes Christ carries my grief through my family. Sometimes Christ carries my grief through time. Christ always carries my grief… Christ always carries my sorrow…” Leadership Pain: The Classroom for Growth - Samuel Chand “Growth equals change; change equals loss; loss equals pain; so inevitably, growth equals pain.” “Pain is a part of progress. Anything that grows experiences some pain. If I avoid all pain, I’m avoiding growth.” “When you interpret your pain as bigger—more important, more threatening, more comprehensive—than your vision, you’ll redefine your vision down to the threshold of your pain.” My Jesus Journey - Spiritual Truths from the Desk of Tim Barker - Dr. Tim Barker pp. 67 & 68 “It’s been said that one of the greatest tests of leadership is how you handle opposition. Trust me, if you’re a leader, you will encounter opposition. When I go for long periods of time without opposition, I begin to worry why. And, it’s not the opposition that seems to trip me up as much as where and from whom the opposition occasionally comes, like people you actually trusted.” “So, what can be learned from this faithful and courageous leader (Nehemiah)? PERSISTENCE is the ultimate gauge of our leadership. I’m not about to say it’s an easy task, but the secret is to outlast our critics. WE MUST stay committed to God and to His ultimate calling! I’ve Fallen and I Must Get Back Up” There certainly are levels of stress that we cause by making unwise decisions and choices but that is not what I’m dealing with here. This is a stress and pain of progress. A pain caused by our obedience and the emotional tension and battles that take place because we are doing the right thing. Most of the seasons of ministry are so very enjoyable and fulfilling, but there are those other moments and seasons that are crushing to the heart, soul and even body. During these times don’t give up! Stay the course! Pray like never before. Find a friend and counselor to join you in your struggle. And remember that if you were not progressing and moving forward then you would not feel and experience this type of pressure and stress. Don’t give in but continue to move forward and you will break through this season of stress and see great things in the lives of those to whom you are ministering. Remember you are in a spiritual battle not only for this generation but for future generations. The enemy of our soul, Satan, wants to destroy us however he can but remember that you are important! You are needed! Your ministry is important! And greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world - 1 John 4:4 This season of stress and pain is only for a season and God will bring you through. Stress means you’re alive. Whether you’re involved in a military campaign, starting and running a business, planting a church or pastoring an older congregation, a health struggle, a financial strain or fighting for your family, stress and pressure are not fun but they are very fruitful. Remember:
“Pressure is a Privilege!”

In this edition of the STAR we want to shine the spotlight on Six Mile Assembly of God and their 30 Year Anniversary. The Six Mile Assembly of God Church started on March 5, 1989 in the Kisiah Home with about sixteen members. But long before this date my Mother Katy Kisiah had a dream, she called me that morning and said, Sonny, I want you to come over, I have something to tell you. That morning my Mother told me about her dream which she saw this Church in this community, she said it was white and had red roses around it. Little did I realize at that time that in God’s timing we would be building this Church and she lived to see it before she went to be with the Lord. The most important factor in walking with God is hearing His voice and keeping in step with His timing. It was some time after this dream of my Mothers that I was touched with a desire to start a Pentecostal work in this community. At a prayer meeting I shared my concern and everyone seemed to be in agreement so I shared my burden with the Yoakum Section A/G board and was given permission to start an Assembly of God Church in this community. We started the work in our, the Kisiah home March 5, 1989 with 16 members. It was June 4, 1989 that we moved to The Six Mile Inn building which was once a tavern, with some fixing up and painting we stayed there almost two years before the Czech Grocery Store became available. We moved in May 5, 1991 across the highway from our Church today. We had some wonderful times in those buildings. What a blessing to just follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in whatever you do.
dance hall which had burnt down. At this time we bought the land where we are now located. A short time later with $36,000.00 in our building fund we felt that it was time to build a new Church building. Our Sunday School lesson was on the crossing over on the other side into Canaanland, Joshua was leading and when the Priest’s feet touched the water carrying the Ark of the Covenant the waters rolled back. I still recall it as yesterday. Who can explain it. Sister Ann Boyd said, let’s everyone bring the money from off your dressers like our piggy banks, well, a couple arrived at our door that night, they didn’t want to be known and said, we brought our piggy bank what should we do with it? I said, how much is it? They said $40,000.00. Wow, we started building, but we agreed to build by faith as the funds came in.
It was June 5, 1994 with one of our men Raymond Goynes along with Russel Janak and workers from our Church that we launched out to build as the money came in, but actually we never stopped building, for the money kept coming in until at last the building was complete. We moved into the new building March 12, 1995 while it was still under construction, actually we marched across While we were worshipping in this building that the land became the highway with our folding chairs singing, “When the Saints available across the road, this property once housed the Music Box go marching in”. The floors were uncarpeted and there were no pews or furniture, but we had church. It was shortly after this that
different ones in the church donated pews in memory of their loved ones. The pews are made of the same tree that Zacchaeus climbed to see Jesus, sycamore wood. It makes me think, we are all setting and anticipating the coming of our Lord Jesus.
Bro. Cecil did a fantastic job and it was finished completely payed for. Then in 2013 we had an awning built over the walk , God has been so good to us in our building projects. And hopefully we are all growing in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, I believe we are because we have such unity in whatever we do, It was in 1995 that we started the Six Mile Assembly of God it’s a blessing to work together with folks with a good attitude. Christian School, with Carol Boyd as the Principal/teacher and with the Pastor as thethe administrator, we continued the School for eight years, at one time we had over 70 students. We saw many little ones grow, not only academically but spiritually. I really enjoyed doing the Chapel every week and we taught the children all the little Bible songs that I’m sure they remember today. I brought the Word to them, it was a blessing. The studies were all Christian. It seemed at that time the Lord changed our Ministry direction and the school was closed. We saw a need of a Spanish speaking Sunday School Class so we by using our Spanish speaking members started the Spanish Sunday School, it’s been a blessing to those who come and are not able to speak English and others who love the Spanish Language enjoy the class. We launched out to re-do the parking lot, we were all in agreement and Charles Willoughby arose for the occasion and acting as contractor and with Edgar Cruz and his crew did a fine job of preparing our parkin lot for asphalt. But big trucks got on the lot and damaged it, so we had to do it all over again, but we were able to expand it also. Our next project was a bigger fellowship building. At this point Cecil Boyd had just retired stepped in and investigated the price of a metal building. In our Men’s Council meeting we all agreed to build. Our first Fellowship Dinner in the new building was April 5, 2009, thanks to Bro. Cecil and all that helped and gave. Thank You Lord, for the building when finished was debt free, Praise the Lord. Our next project was our Sunday School and Youth building, so in 2012 we launched into building with Cecil Boyd as overseeing the project also. Don’t have the finished date but

Actually there are so many behind the scenes I did not mention who are praying and working without recognition. In His Service Johnny & Bonnie Kisiah, Pastor

Housing Tax Allowance
WASHINGTON, D.C. – An appeals court today protected Pastor Chris Butler, a leader of a South Side Chicago congregation, and religious leaders across the country from nearly $1 billion per year in new taxes. In Gaylor v. Mnuchin, an atheist group sued the IRS to end the parsonage allowance, a federal tax provision that allows churches, mosques, and synagogues to provide faith leaders a taxfree housing allowance to help them live in the communities they serve. The Chicago-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit unanimously rejected the atheists’ challenge, ruling that the tax exemption is constitutional. In 2016 the atheist group Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) sued the IRS, demanding that it end the parsonage allowance and begin imposing almost $1 billion in new taxes per year on churches nationwide. Pastor Chris of Chicago Embassy Church and several other religious leaders who rely on the parsonage allowance, represented by Becket, intervened in the case. In 2017, the district court ruled the parsonage allowance was unconstitutional. But Becket appealed to the Seventh Circuit, which today ruled that the parsonage allowance “is simply one of many per se rules” that “allow hundreds of thousands of employees (including ministers) to receive tax-exempt housing every year,” and that it is consistent with the nation’s “lengthy tradition of tax exemptions for religion, particularly for church-owned properties.” “This ruling is a victory not just for my church but for the needy South Side Chicago community we serve – our youth, our single mothers, our homeless, our addicted, and our victims of gang violence,” said Pastor Chris Butler of the Chicago Embassy Church. “I am grateful that I can continue serving them and living side by side with them to make our neighborhood a safer, more peaceful place.” 14
Pastor Chris is the leader of a predominantly African-American congregation, and devotes his life to mentoring at-risk youth, decreasing neighborhood crime, and caring for the homeless in Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods. His church can’t afford to pay him a full salary, but it offers him a small housing allowance, so he can afford to live near his church and the community he serves. For over 60 years, federal law has recognized that housing allowances shouldn’t be taxed as income under the same tax principle that exempts housing allowances for hundreds of thousands of secular workers—including teachers, business leaders, military service members, and many more. This tax exemption also keeps the IRS from becoming entangled in religious matters. “The tax code treats ministers the same as hundreds of thousands of nonreligious workers who receive tax-exempt housing for their jobs—that’s not special treatment, it’s equal treatment,” said Luke Goodrich, vice president and senior counsel at Becket. “The court rightly recognized that striking down the parsonage allowance would devastate small, low-income houses of worship in our neediest neighborhoods and would cause needless conflict between church and state.” Becket represents Pastor Chris Butler and Bishop Edward Peecher of Chicago Embassy Church, Father Patrick Malone of Holy Cross Anglican Church, and the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Powwow 2019
Powwow 2019 was held April 26-28 at Camp Williams and the weekend was an incredible experience! Simply put: God moved in hearts and lives of boys and men. We had 523 campers throughout the weekend and the services were powerful! Rev. Luis Velazquez (Spanish Eastern District RR Director) was our featured speaker and preached powerful truths to our boys. On Friday evening, he felt led by the Lord to ask the boys there how many were struggling with suicidal thoughts/depression. By my count, there were around 30 hands that went up at the altar alone. He spent the next several moments speaking into their hearts and lives and demanded the leaders of the boys take note and continue ministry back home. He then prayed over the responders of the altar call. On Saturday, games and competitions filled the air and before we knew it, it was time for our early-evening service. Luis again spoke an on-time word about walls in our lives falling down
through faith, obedience and persistence. He led a powerful illustrated sermon about the walls of Jericho collapsing amidst the camp of Israelites. We asked each of our churches represented to fill out a spiritual results survey after having meaningful conversations with their boys and we had 100% participation! Based on that information, the results show that there were 16 first-time salvations, 97 rededications, 2 Holy Spirit Baptisms, 20 divine healings and 13 boys called into full-time ministry! Campers were able to participate and compete in dozens of exciting games and challenges as well as enjoy the beauty of a dry and sunny South Texas weekend! We hope you enjoy a few of our favorite images of Powwow 2019! Jason Bone
