COLLECTION WINTER 2019/20 - INTRODUCTION

Direct’s celebrating its birthday…! Yes, friends, this year it’s 20 years already since Direct sold its first clothes! Which is a cause for celebration and a time for gifts. The biggest gift to mark this anniversary is probably the film made for us by Petr “Spek” Slanina and Honza Simanek. We had many discussions with them about the form it would take, during which time we managed to do some climbing in Klokocky. As it happened, the film turned out OK – winning the audience prize at the International Mountaineering Film Festival in Teplice nad Metuji. Thanks a lot to you and the boys. Another gift, although not one for us directly, was the Piolets d´Or prize for Zdenek Hak, our ambassador, and Marek Holecek. First time ever in the Czech Republic. Awesome!!! But on this occasion, I’d especially like to thank you, our partners. For your belief, your patience and your support. Without you we’d never have managed. Thanks, and thanks to each one of you!

And what does the future hold? What lies ahead for Direct Alpine in the years to come? “Direct” is the fastest line to the summit, the path to your goal, no compromises… This you already know. All the same, the word perfectly encapsulates who we are and who we still want to be. This year’s models prove that we haven’t stood still since last season’s promises. We’ve been investing in colour – creating patterns for double the number of new models and colour combinations, with the aim being to colour co-ordinate the whole collection. We’re sure you’ll be big fans. In the upcoming seasons we’ll be focusing more intensely on our women’s collection, and on the collection for rock climbers, where we’re seeing a clear trend away from rock climbing being seen as an extreme sport, to something much more commonplace, almost an everyday sporting activity.

We also want to carry on expanding production capacity here in the Czech Republic, possibly elsewhere in Europe, so that we can be sure that our clothing is manufactured according to European social and environmental standards. Environmental impact is another area that in future we want to pay even more attention to than we’ve done before. Together we’ve set out a plan how to reduce our impact on the environment, while ensuring our products remain fully functional. You can read about some of the details in the following pages of the catalogue. This doesn’t mean that we’ve been doing nothing in this area before now. I don’t know whether you’re aware of the fact, but all our products have been PFOA-free since 2016, even though the European standard banning the use of these potentially hazardous compounds does not come into force until 2020. Even so, the plan we’ve drawn up sets out an even more ambitious target. This is to reduce the volume

of all PFC compounds across our product range. We freely admit, however, that despite close collaboration with our textile suppliers, we have not yet found any substitute technology that would satisfy our demanding requirements. Unfortunately, our field and laboratory tests clearly show that there are no suitable alternatives at the moment to PFCs when it comes to extreme applications. But let’s put to one side all this shop talk. I’m sure that you, like us, have managed to shut the door firmly behind you on daily life and enjoy great days out in the sort of places where you can really use our products. If at the same time you’ve managed to accomplish some long dreamt-after goals, then good for you. If not, here’s some good news: you’ve got the perfect reason to head out once again! I wish you a beautiful autumn – a time of wine harvests, golden leaves and distant views – framed in blue skies – of the peaks you’re aiming to climb.

Because Polartec Alpha insulation is highly durable and more stable than other synthetic insulation products, more open-construction woven face and back fabrics can be selected to create an air permeable package. Polartec® Power Stretch Pro® Polartec® Power Stretch® fabrics feature body-hugging 4-way stretch and are very breathable. PrimaLoft® Silver insulation keeps the body warm, dry and comfortable, even in extreme conditions.

PrimaLoft® Gold PrimaLoft® Gold Active is the highest performing insulation on the market for warmth, water resistance, softness and compressibility. PrimaLoft® Gold Active is an ultra-fine microfiber insulation that is as warm, soft and lightweight, and is warmer wet or dry than all other insulations.

PrimaLoft® Thermo Plume It is a unique synthetic material that combines the unique properties of feathers and synthetic insulation. Thermo Plume guarantees loft, foldability and feather-resembling thermo-insulating properties (equivalent to 550 + cuin) while retaining all the benefits of traditional Primaloft, such as water resistance, light weight and easy care. The tufts of insulation Thermo Plume give the clothes an excellent Thermo-insulating performance even at very high humidity, the clothing remains permeable to air and dries very quickly. Richter by Südwolle 100% merino wool made of best quality Sudwolle yarn. Thanks to its unique fibre structure has merino unique warmth, ani-bacterial ability and is odour resistant. Absorbed moisture becomes warmer very quickly so wet garment does not chill. All listed unique abilities makes Merino garments perfect choise for any outdoor activity.

Tecnostretch Pontetorto Tecnostretch, is ideal for base and mid layering. The component yarns make the face durable, whilst the polyester reverse has both insulation and wicking properties - added elastomer ensures a body hugging fit.

Thermolite® Thermolite® provides warmth and comfort without weight, even when wet. It’s the lightweight fabric that provides heavy-duty performance made with ADVANSA engineered hollow-core fibres that trap air for greater insulation. Thermolite® is the perfect layering fabric because it’s comfortable and lightweight, allowing more freedom of movement. Envilon The material contains 60% Nylon, which is obtained by recycling old fishing nets. At the same time, 30% energy and water are saved in the production process. The whole production cycle of the substance is therefore very gentle for the environment and at the same time waste from heavily polluted seas is collected.
