Thanks to its characteristics of lightness and strength, the carbon fiber has become the material of excellence for the realization of ski mountaineering race boots. Carbon fiber is a synthetic material reinforced made of filaments that generally are soaked around a resin, which keeps them in place and protects them and with which we create what we call a resistant and light composite material. Among its features, in addition to the above-mentioned lightness and strength, we find a low density, discrete flameproof properties, resistance chemical effects and temperature changes, as well as capacity of thermal insulation.

Pebax® elastomers

The Carbon Grilamid LFT® is a polyamide reinforced with long carbon fibers that improve the elongation resistance properties and the rigidity of Grilamid®, without increasing its density when compared with the normal short fibers. This allows reducing the thicknesses of the shell and cuff, thus obtaining a light product but at the same time very performing. Impact resistance and solicitations are improved, allowing to keep intact the performance of the boots over time.

Designed for extreme conditions, Pebax® elastomers are a premium performance material that has been used for many years in winter sports equipment. They offer a unique combination of high performance properties: sustained flexibility at low temperature, high cold impact resistance, and outstanding energy return. These elastomers are typically 20% lighter than common materials. They combine a polyamide 12 rigid block (PA12) with a hydrophobic polyether soft chain. Bridging the gap between thermoplastics and rubbers, Pebax® materials are an excellent choice for a wide range of high performance applications in sport markets.

Pebax® Rnew elastomers

This material is reinforced with long glass fiber. This creates products that have highest strength and stiffness values with a percentage parity compared to a short-fiber, suitable for lightweight applications. The long-fiber structure provides 20% to 30% higher stiffness. All long fiber reinforced polyamides exhibit higher notched impact strength values compared to normal compounds.

Pebax® Rnew materials are premium bio-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) made from the oil of the castor plant. They offer a unique combination of high performance properties: sustained flexibility at low temperature, high cold impact resistance, and outstanding energy return. These elastomers are typically 20% lighter than commonly used materials. Booster™ Strap BOA® Fit System The BOA® Fit System provides a closure and a custom fit for maximum comfort without pressure points. Each click is equivalent to 1 mm of voltage regulation. Once adjusted and locked in position, the BOA® Fit System does not diminish its locking effect even after many hours of use.

Dynamic elastic straps stretch, allowing you to cinch them super tight for an increase in performance. They also provides cushioning to keep your shins from bangin’ when you’re getting ultra-sendy, too.

Power Strap Fast Buckle Closure One only buckle and a Velcro® strap with a referential graphic, which guarantees a rapid and precise closure. You can have two different fits suitable for both uphill and downhill, changing only the buckle position, and maintaining the same Velcro® closure, for a single and unique setting.

The Velcro® strap closure provides the best wrapping on the tibial area, without adding a lot of weight. Equipped with a strong and light aluminium ring, the Power Strap offers perfect support against the tongue, avoiding the rebound from the top part of the boots.

SKI/WALK MECHANISM

Speed Cam Lock

SCARPA® adopts numerous and different solutions for the ski / walk mechanism, each specific to the type of boot and user.

The well-known and appreciated Speed Lock system is now improved, offering a quick transition from walk to ski phase with just one gesture. Easy to use and adjust the closure: just pull the cable to tighten the closure and simply unlock the cam and slide the cable to loosen the closure.

The F1 lever guarantees the maximum in terms of lightness and performance. The transition from ski to walk and vice versa, is easy and fast. The system is enhanced by the Friction Free technology, in fact there isn’t any connecting rod between the shell and cuff, this allows a “friction free” movement during the walking phase.

The new locking plate on the shell, for the connection of the lever to the shell, assures a secure and fast locking and avoids the heap of snow or ice.

SAFETY AT YO U R FE ET RECCO® technology, applied by SCARPA® on ski mountaineering and telemark boots, makes you searchable to professional rescuers in the event of an avalanche accident. First introduced in 1983, the technology was developed by Magnus Granhed with the cooperation of Stockholm’s Royal Institute of Technology in response to his personal experience with an avalanche tragedy. SCARPA® has been the first brand to integrate the RECCO® system in its products. It has proven a very effective solution and been adopted by an extensive network of ski resorts, helicopter skiing operations, parks, and search-and-rescue organizations in Europe, Japan, North and South America. The RECCO® technology enables rapid directional pinpointing of a victim’s precise location using harmonic radar. The two-part system consists of a RECCO® detector used by professional rescue teams and RECCO® reflectors that are integrated into apparel, helmets, protection gear, and boots. It is important to challenge yourself and push your limits, but it is as essential as being responsible, by foreseeing some precautional measures, able to make you feel always protected, even with extreme conditions.

The RECCO® reflector enables professional rescuers to locate you in the event of an avalanche accident or when lost outdoors.

NEW CUFF LAST The new Maestrale XT cuff has been slimmed down to enhance responsiveness and increase precision while skiing. The close contact of the cuff to the shin will immediately transmit impulses to the binding and ski system. BI-INJECTION OVERLAP CUFF The Maestrale XT cuff has been specifically developed to increase downhill performance while maintaining agility for touring, walking and fitting. It is equipped with dual overlapping cuff wings that are separated to allow independent function, providing a uniform and precise closure of the tibial area. They are injected in softer Pebax® that allow for fast and easy entry and exit but still maintain high support for skiing. The back part of the cuff is injected in Grilamid® with variable thicknesses, allowing for low weight but maintaining the lateral and torsional rigidity required for performance skiing.

SPEED LOCK XT

THOR BUCKLE This new buckle is constructed in magnesium alloy that is both strong and lightweight. Its intelligent design offers glove friendly use. THOR RACK The Thor Rack XT on the cuff is made in aluminum with 5 teeth. Each tooth offering a 7mm incremental adjustment. The last element of the rack plays an important role during the uphill: it efficiently locks the buckle, preventing any movement and guaranteeing optimum comfort during the walk.

SPEED LOCK XT The new Speed Lock XT ski/walk mechanism is easy to unlock and lock, even in gloves, thanks to the high strength lever with the integrated pull. The system is enhanced by Friction Free technology, meaning there is no connecting rod between the shell and cuff, this allowing a “friction free” interface during the walking and touring.

On the Alien RS the BOA® works directly on the inner boot, increasing the feeling and sensibility onyour feet. GAITER The gaiter is built with a nylon fiber interwoven with spandex for the elasticity. The thermowelded PU film on the lower area, increase the protection and insulation on the most critic and sensitive zone. This effectively makes for a more natural stride that offers significant energy savings - especially important on big days! NOTE: binding mounting location is different than standard TLT mounting instructions. MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS: boot center to ski center 1. Mount the TLT heel piece in the standard mounting location 2. To mount the TLT toe piece: move the toe rearwards from ‘standard’ mounting location - towards the heel piece by «X», the specified distance for each boot.

All SCARPA® non-plastic footwear uses European sizing. • 1 Euro whole size = 6.6 mm = 0.26 inches • 1 US whole size = 8.4 mm = 0.33 inches • The 30 Euro sizes cover the same size range as 24 US sizes • Euro sizes provide a better, more precise fit for your intended use Upsize (½+ sizes) depending on desired fit for mountaineering boots. All SCARPA® ski boots are measured in Mondo sizing. SCARPA® ski boots break on the half size, this means that a half size shares the same shell length as the whole size above it but the liners are lasted for each ½ size. For example, a 25.5 and 26.0 are the same shell size but the respective liners come pre-molded to the half size. Some skiers may want to downsize up to 1 full Mondo size, depending upon personal preference.
