HUNDREDS of charity volunteers and supporters enjoyed the sun, music and some al fresco food at the weekend as part of a Big Thank You Picnic organised by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. The Calverley Grounds get together on Saturday [September 18], was arranged to thank those who have worked for charities and other organisations for their service during the pandemic. The picnic was arranged with funding from Kent County Council’s Reconnect Communities Fund and Royal Tunbridge
Wells Together Business Improvement District [BID]. It was organised so that the Council could acknowledge and celebrate the
‘I was so touched that the Council did this to thank the volunteers’ work of the many volunteers in the borough who have made a such a difference to people, particularly over the past 18 months.
Members of a number of the charitable organisations gave talks at the event that saw around 35 local charities and organisations give praise to their teams of volunteers. More than a hundred volunteers and supporters attended the event that also saw performances from local groups including Trinity Youth Theatre, the inclusive dance company This Is Us, Paddock Wood Community Choir, and the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra who also took part.

Cricket club become English champions after 240 years By Robert Forrester TUNBRIDGE WELLS Cricket Club [TWCC] has won the ECB National Club T20 final, making them champions of England. It is TWCC’s greatest national achievement in the history of the club since it
was founded in the town in 1782. The Kent Cricket League Premier Division team beat Barnard Castle from the Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB Premier League by five-wickets on Saturday [September 18]. The club, which plays its
home games at the Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells, achieved their historic victory at Wantage Road, home of Northamptonshire County Cricket. The game was won after Barnard Castle finished their innings on 125-5 from their allocated 20 overs.
While Tunbridge Wells lost opening and league topping batsman Viraj Bhatia early on for just five runs, along with skipper Christopher Williams who was out for a duck, they soon begin scoring.
