A touch of Christmas cheer for town as lights get switched on IT Support Cloud Solutions

By Richard Williams TUNBRIDGE Wells’ Christmas lights were switched on at the weekend, with a new installation to give the town a festive boost this year. The team behind the town’s BID [Business Improvement District] said the old lights installed by the council had passed their use by date so this year BID took over management of the scheme. The lights, which were paid for by BID with a contribution by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, were turned on Sunday night, but lockdown prevented any official switching on ceremony.
BID spent £40,000 on the new lighting display with the Council contributing £15,000. The town’s festive lights have been criticised in the past for being fairly lacklustre, but Ross Feeney, Chief Executive of BID, says the new installation provides a great ‘starting point’ for increasing the number of lights in the town each year.
Additions He said: “We’re really delighted to see the new lights have been switched on. “We had a lot of feedback from local businesses about improving the lighting
scheme, and I hope we have met their expectations. “It’s a brand new scheme, with different types of lights in different parts of the town. “The most noticeable additions are lights on Cotswold’s columns and Mr Frosty our three metre high snowman by the clock tower. “We hope, once lockdown has ended, that people will be able to come into town and enjoy Tunbridge Wells illuminated for Christmas.”

SPECIAL EDITION NEXT WEEK WITH ALL ADVERTISEMENTS FREE OF CHARGE GOOD NEWS! This newspaper will after all be published next Wednesday [Nov 25]. Because lockdown brought a dip in ad revenue it was planned to print fortnightly. Now, though, we’ll be distributing a bumper edition where all 80 advertisements from our regular clients will be carried free of charge. The collective value of that support is
around £30,000. It’s our way of going the ‘extra mile’ to help boost local businesses and the community as we hopefully emerge from another lockdown. Even if you have never advertised with us we might still be able to print your ad for free particularly if you operate a smaller independent business. For more details
email rsinger@markerstudy.com. Next week’s paper will, as usual, have all the local and national news that matters along with the regular features including food and culture plus property. It will be available at the normal pickup points across Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.
