MANCHESTER BOMBING Residents urged to ‘stay alert’ but ‘not alarmed’ after the terror attack KENT Police have asked people to ‘continue to enjoy our county and stay alert’ but ‘not alarmed’ following Monday night’s bomb attack in Manchester. It had claimed 22 lives and left 59 injured as the Times went to press. A police spokesman said: “There is no current information to suggest there is a direct threat to Kent and we remain in regular contact with the Home Office to assess the country’s threat levels.”

The explosion happened at Manchester Arena during a concert by US singer Ariana Grande. Among the dead was eight-year-old Saffie-Rose Roussos described as ‘a beautiful little girl in every aspect of the word’. Also killed were Georgina Callander (18) and John Atkinson aged 28. ISIS claimed responsibility for the blast. The suicide bomber has been named as Salman Abedi (22) the son of a Libyan refugee. A 23-year-old man has also been arrested. Local MP Tom Tugendhat said: “The attacks are horrific. We have suspended all campaigning in the General Election as we stand together as one nation.”

murray@timesoftunbridgewells.co.uk AN INDEPENDENT taxi firm were declared the best small business in West Kent at this year’s Times Business Awards. Castle Cars picked up the Best Small Business [up to £2million turnover] trophy during a gala night at Salomon’s Estate near Tunbridge Wells last Thursday [May 18]. Judges were particularly impressed with the firm’s interaction with the local community, including training drivers to protect vulnerable passengers from financial scams. They were also commended for their impressive 50 per

cent growth since moving to larger premises two years ago, with a doubling of last year’s profits expected. It was also noted that their approach to the highest of standards in which they only employ drivers who speak English made them stand out from their competition

Judges were particularly impressed with the firm’s interaction with the local community and helped them retain a loyal customer base. Owner Terry Hill who started the company with just one car in January 1995 but has now grown it to a fleet
