There are the students at Bennett Memorial who have filled almost 1,400 shoeboxes with gifts, including hats and scarves along with pens and paper, that are on their way around the world to help bring a smile to the face of less privileged youngsters. It’s all part of something called Operation Christmas Child that the school has been working with for more than ten years. The toy appeal…
Some 2,000 presents are now being delivered to youngsters in the borough who normally might not receive any Christmas gift. It follows a record breaking Mayor’s Toy Appeal that will benefit 420 children – an increase of 100 over last year. Organiser Karen Collins said: “This year we asked for new toys and it has been the biggest response we have ever had.” Full story see page 4
