BPO makes wave
Promoting highland vegetable industry - Understanding the Writ of Kalikasan
BPO makes wave Recent reports indicate an upward trend in industrialization , and already locators at the Philippine Economic Zone Authority have recovered from past year's recession losses primarily due to increased outsourcing of jobs. Philippine Export Zone Authority- Baguio operations officer Engr. Mody Agyao said locators in the zone have recovered are back grossing US$3 billion in terms of exports a year. These big manufacturing plants have also opened up opportunities for outsourcing supplies and jobs in turn providing employment opportunities in the city. By locally outsourcing supplies , these companies incur big savings and delayed productions as they will no longer wait for supplies to come and pay freight charges. According to Agyao, locators at PEZA also want to expand outsourcing supplies and Baguio and the Cordillera to help local suppliers earn more and provide more job opportunities. Meanwhile, significant investment in resource-based industries have been noted in almost all the regions and the outlook for these activities is rosy. Business Process Outsourcing companies such as call centers and medical transcriptions are steadily increasing in the country. Largely because of the availability of equipment and support services, low cost of doing business, good business environment and foremost, talent- the availability of trainable and competent people who could fill the skills requirements of the companies. Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Florencio 'Butch' Abad recently affirmed that the Philippines is now number one in the world as far as the call center industry is concerned, and the BPO is gaining up with India for the top spot. "Gaining the top spot in the BPO industry is highly achievable for the country but we must firstly assure that we can also cope with the manpower demand of such fast growing local industry," Abad said. Government has formed a body to oversee the sustained development and growth of the IT field. Beyond this, investors are closely watching how we are coping to make this opportunity a major catalyst for economic development in the regions.
