March 2022
People Pathways Welcome to the March edition of the One Nucleus People Pathways newsletter. This month’s newsletter is packed with news about our upcoming events, learning and development opportunities, vacancies, and mentoring. You will also find links to the on-demand content from our Building Life Science Adventures 2022 conference which took place earlier this month. The image below shows our expert speakers, Sponsors and Supporters of this year’s event. We have been reflecting on the last 12 months as we bring together the content for the Annual Review and it has been great to see how organisations are growing and changing within Life Sciences and how the One Nucleus Learning and Development and People activities are evolving with this. Without giving away too many spoilers of this year’s Directory, we are delighted to share that over the last 12 months, 60 companies (44 members and 16 non-members) have accessed training via One Nucleus. We have also developed an online library of Employer of Choice webinars. These sessions covered topics such as diversity and LGBTQ+ inclusion, working with neurodiversity, women’s health and safety at work and reducing carbon footprint and are all available on the One Nucleus YouTube Channel. We look forward to future Employer of Choice collaborations.

The Skills Network - Digital Skills Bootcamps The Skills Network has been selected to deliver Skills Bootcamps for Digital in the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority area as well as the East of England. The government funded bootcamps are designed to upskill individuals (unemployed and employed) in these digital skills to enable them to apply for relevant roles or progress within their employment. The courses are fully online but do involve a significant amount of “live” tutoring. In the short term they would like to hear from employers who would like to interview those completing courses for vacancies they have. They are also keen to hear from employers that might have an interest in shaping the programmes going forward. As well as upskilling, their own employers are using the bootcamps as a recruitment route. The Skills Network also offer specialist digital apprenticeship courses in Digital Marketing, IT Technical Sales, Data Analysis, Software Development, Information Communications and Software Development so, if desired, the individual can then progress into the relevant apprenticeship. Please contact Tara.Holland@theskillsnetwork.com if you would like more information or would like to be involved.

Listening to Ignite the Mind – With RiverRhee Elisabeth Goodman, RiverRhee
RiverRhee’s Owner and Principal Consultant, Elisabeth Goodman, has been exploring how to take her clients’ listening skills to another level. Nancy Kline’s latest book “The Promise that Changes Everything. I promise I won’t interrupt”, formed the basis of a “Time to Think” course that Elisabeth recently attended. You may already be familiar with the concept of “active listening”: a way of demonstrating to the thinker that you are giving them your fullest attention – through brief utterances, nodding, eye contact, and maybe even playing back some of the words that you have heard. Nancy Kline’s latest work takes this art of listening further. She suggests that we promise not to interrupt the other person, not only until they have stopped speaking, but also until they have stopped thinking. That we do not say a single word until we are invited to do so, and that we give our fullest attention throughout. The justification behind all of this is the finding that we think in waves and pauses, and we do variable amounts of thinking inside our heads rather than speaking aloud. Receiving this level of attention from someone else, and knowing we will not be interrupted can create a sense of safety and ease in our thinking that can ultimately ignite our minds. Get in touch at elisabeth@riverrhee.com, call Elisabeth on 07876 130 817 or see www.riverrhee.com to explore listening and other management and ‘human’ skills through one-to-one, group and team coaching.
