CULTURAL INFILL
NARRATIVE ; Kampung Baru has a vibrant urban identity and a distinct image for the city of Kuala Lumpur. By acknowledging its hidden gems and uncover various historical importance
which made this urban village stood bold, an ideal urban revitalization would prosper. Jalan Raja Abdullah ‘Cultural Infill’ is an urban master plan proposal which attempts to mainly enhance connectivity and linkages within. By amplifying and rejuvenating networks and nodes of its significant places, unique landmarks and heritage of this urban village, and filling in with them; various urban and architectural intervention that are complementary to each other. Therefore, enhance thus sustain Kampung Baru attributes and vitality as well as its sense of place. Contextually, Jalan Raja Abdullah is an ‘urban connector’. It is the main road for Kampung Baru. An axis, a linear node, physically separates Kampung Baru context between the commercial driven western district and its eastern residential edges Towards the north it connects with Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz which leads towards Jalan Tun Razak and Chowkit into Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. While the southern end leads towards Jalan Dang Wangi and intersects with Jalan Sultan Ismail. Jalan Raja Abdullah existence is amplified by the visibility of Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru. Sits on the centre of this Axis where locals and people who are familiar with this context would identify themselves to be embedded inside Kampung Baru context everytime they see this building. Uniquely disjointed by its physical placement with the city centre context around it, thus disjointing the two district of Kampung Baru commercial and residential context. - “revitalizing Jalan Raja Abdullah as Kampung Baru linear network node by means of cultural infill through urban architecture intervention”
problem statement -
The current development plan by Perbadanan Kampung Baru is viewed by many; inclined to or as force implementation, a hardline, where it dictates the development towards financial gains and not of social or cultural intent; which is key to the significance of what Kampung Baru is to the city of Kuala Lumpur. Urban renewal for this urban village needs to include careful thoughts towards the vitality of people who are the heartbeat of Kampung Baru and designing for them to sustain its sense of place

Contemporary artists often associated with are Daniel Buren, Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Krzysztof Wodiczko, the Red Peristyle group, Banksy and many others
Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community’s assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness, and well-being.
Tactical urbanism includes low-cost, oftenly temporary changes to the built environment, usually in cities, intended to improve local neighbourhoods and city gathering places. Commonly referred to as guerrilla urbanism, planning-by-doing, and urban prototyping.
