“a creative endeavor. “ There are lines drawn within constraints and opportunities in each outcome of a specific project. Designed by rationale is one way to consciously understand its cognitive, and leads to achievable intent. The metaphorical reason lies within the intangible justification and through the process of discovery. It focuses on recognizing, sensing, and imaging possible creative outlet. Their generated elements are clarified by its anticipated uses.

Shelter, Transit and Recreation The project is built around the idea of a central urban living room. Hobart is recognized by its stunning landscape features such as Mt. Wellington and at the city lays Sullivan’s cove, deemed to be Hobart’s symbolic heart. By proposing to create a functional civic space with an overlapping program, the urban/public living room facilitates the practice of everyday life. Hobart Shelter, Transit and Recreation Centre is a potential project for the Hobart’s development. It amplifies the city permanence which enables mixture of interaction with both the local and visitors alike. It is to be a catalyst for a miscellany of activity, tourism, education and inner city living.

Function follows Form

DOVECOTE STUDIO Snape Maltings (U.K) Haworth Tompkins

Insertion of contemporary architectural components into existing was performed in the basis of adaptive re-use towards a historic building. It triggers the concept of function follows form due to the constraints from demolishing the existing fabrics. In response to social sustainability, the new architectural program retains its cultural significance while enhancing the place as to resurrect its previous occupation by means of atmosphere and experience. Its historical layers tells a story of what might have been within the new that preoccupies the present function. This architecture offers richness of modulated spaces through tectonics by their timely and contrasting surfaces

Martin Heidegger described the threshold as, “a space between two worlds, a potent common or middle ground which simultaneously holds, joins and separates two worlds. Thresholds are sacred places which form a boundary between what is ‘here’ and what is ‘there’, but they are in themselves neither here or there.” The main entrance for the new building conditions plays a significant role in the day-to-day life of the building. It is utilize for social encounter, a promenade architecturale and suggest the pattern of movement around the building.

Reinterpreting Cinematic Experience

revolutio n ary . chivalry . struggle . adve n ture . rebellious

Ernesto Guevara is an inspiration to every human being who loves freedom. This memorial itself is revolutionary. It commemorates CHE’s life as a person, as a revolutionist. The rebellious character and aggressive appearance has been translated into the components of the monument that evoke a sense of conflict and doubt, the phenomena of struggle and adventure. There is temptation to dismiss Guevara as a frenetic dreamer consumed by the movement and romance of revolutionary action. Nicknamed as El Fuser (the furious serna) due to his aggressive style of playing rugby in college. There is much to admire in Guevara, and yet there is also uneasiness. In rememberance, the memorial would perform as a public gathering place to anyone who believes in revolution. The architecture of the memorial gives a silent poetry of the romantic idealism that symbolize the rebelious, revolutionary, adventerous character of Che Guevera.

Departure as concept Departure is a concept which was used as the primary design energy for this studio. The word departure was reinterpreted in series or exercise. A sketch, a graphic illustration and a visceral model was cromposed to further explore its possible definition. To further discover the overall concept and architecture methodology, a memorial for Ernesto Che Guevara was designed. An assessment of cinematic appreciation is translated into this particular architectural result. For the final major project, previous accounts of study are translated into its desired outcome.

The funeral hall and art center is the building typology proposed. Programmed according to; the functional aspect of a basic funeral event and the operational basis of an art center. From the main entry drop off, the left side of the building accomodates the art center spaces while the right side is a core circulation space for the whole building where it leads directly to the main space for funeral event. The main celebration hall sits on an island with the main communal area intersects to it. The concept and idea of departure drives this design that later form the whole architecture. Departure is interpreted as a separator, where a funeral has the notion of discontinuity.. Some of the spaces of funeral hall and art centre are inter-related to its functional requirements of a funeral event and art center operations. These spaces departs when the moment it is used while having for both typology to operate accordingly.

Learning through Making The brief for this project was to investigate how spaces are created from the making by architectural elements: architectonics in relation to a given set of requirement. We were to design a pavilion for 2 people to have tea. The pavilion is journey specific, rather than form specific which metaphorically resembles a tea leaf. Its form also reflecting the passage the visitor gets to experience. Within the enclosed path, visitors are brought out to the open. In the later part of the project, we were assigned to design a tourist view point. A proposal for a tea center was initiated as to combine tourism and architecture. In the development of both designs, series of model making exercise were encouraged as part of the learning.

design proposal

Surrounded by field of tea plantations covering the natural topography of Cameron highlands, a horizontal cantilever structure points out of the natural vista for any audience that take pleasure in the wonderful geography of ‘Titiwangsa’ Mountain range that divide peninsular Malaysia to its east coast and the west coast. A viewing deck as a metaphorical absorber invite passer invites road users to stop by. Overhanging cafĂŠ which interacts with the landscape offers a memorable setting for tourist and visitors of this place. The idea of tea when it brews and absorbs the water which then transforms its properties was inevitable. Having visitors wander around this center would give the tea company known better by its brand. Here architecture solutions are address to how it could function in an analytical way.

“Architecture is art. I don’t think you should say that too much, but it is art. I mean, architecture is many, many things. Architecture is science, is technology, is geography, is typography, is anthropology, is sociology, is art, is history. You know all this comes together. Architecture is a kind of bouillabaisse, an incredible bouillabaisse. And, by the way, architecture is also a much polluted art in the sense that it’s polluted by life, and by the complexity of things.”

- Renzo Piano
