ESTE PROYECTO ES EL RESULTADO DE LA REUTILIZACIŁN DE UNA NAVE EN EL ANTIGUO PUERTO INDUSTRIAL DE COPENHAGUE. EL EDIFICIO SE LLAMA A-HOUSE.
The A-House is a former industrial building dating from 1960. In recent years the building has undergone extensive refurbishment. Today it provides shops, commercial areas and, mainly, service apartments (furnished apartments attached to hotel facilities such as cleaning, laundry, breakfast and fitness center which you can rent for a day, a month or a year, depending on need).The former industrial building has a character and history that you do not find in the modern or new buildings. The ambition with the A-House has been to extend the raw industrial building with a new and modern expression, without eliminating the unique character of the old building.Untraditional solutions of the interior are used in the modernizing and have resulted in very attractive apartments with cast concrete, cast floors and surfaces of granite. Outside the building has been given a thorough facelift. The old facade has been completely removed and replaced with a new and transparent glass facade, framed in bronze aluminium, giving the building its new character. The A-House offers a range of modern and attractive apartment types. With a total dwelling count of approximately 200 and a shopping arcade with ten shop units, the project can be considered without doubt as a small "town". This conversion has led to increased attention towards open, recreational space and in that context the roof is constructed as a 4000 square meter landscape with hills, pastures and decking.
A-House es un antiguo edificio industrial que data de 1960. En los últimos años el edificio ha sido objeto de una amplia remodelación, y hoy en día ofrece tiendas, zona comercial y, principalmente, los apartamentos de servicio (amueblados y conectados a instalaciones como limpieza, lavandería, desayuno y fitness center, que se pueden alquilar por un día, un mes o un año dependiendo de las necesidades). El antiguo edificio industrial tiene un carácter y una historia que no hallamos en los edificios nuevos o modernos. El interés con la A-House ha sido ampliar el crudo edificio industrial con una expresión nueva y moderna, sin eliminar el carácter único del antiguo edificio. Las soluciones poco tradicionales del interior se utilizan en la modernización y se traducen en apartamentos muy atractivos, con hormigón moldeado y superficies de granito. En el exterior, el edificio ha recibido un lifting completo. La antigua fachada ha sido completamente eliminada y reemplazada por una nueva fachada de vidrio, enmarcada en aluminio color bronce, dando al edificio una nueva personalidad. A-House ofrece una variedad tipológicamuy atractiva y moderna de apartamentos. Con aproximadamente 200 viviendas y una galería comercial con diez tiendas, el proyecto puede considerarse sin dudarlo como una pequeña "ciudad". Esta conversión ha provocado mayor atención hacia el espacio exterior, abierto, de recreo, y en ese contexto, la cubierta se construye como un paisaje de 4000 metros cuadrados con montículos, zonas verdes y madera.

The landscape is classified as a tablecloth over seven hills, as each represents a penthouse.A total of 13 stair towers invite all the house residents to stay in the open air with fine views over the city, port and the surrounding landscape of Copenhagen. During the development there has been great attention towards creating a house that presents a large range of resident types. Instead of developing a single housing type with a general appeal, the A-House contains a big variety of housing types, each of which are aimed at narrow segments of people. It has been the goal to create a complex housing environment where many different types of people and age groups, together can create a life in and around the building.

El paisaje se clasifica como un mantel sobre siete colinas, ya que cada una representa un ático. Un total de trece torres, correspondientes a los núcleos de escalera, invitan a todos los residentes del edificio a permanecer al aire libre, con buenas vistas sobre la ciudad, el puerto y el paisaje circundante de Copenhague. Durante el desarrollo, los arquitectos han prestado gran atención hacia la creación de una vivienda que presente una amplia gama de tipos de residentes. En lugar de desarrollar un tipo de vivienda único con un atractivo genérico, AHouse contiene una gran variedad de tipos de vivienda, cada uno de los cuales están encaminado a residentes de segmentos específicos. The historic property, recognized for its unique collection of themed structures and gardens, is part of the Garden Conservancy, a national organization dedicated to saving and preserving AmericaÊs exceptional gardens.Funded in its entirety by a private donor, the project entails the rehabilitation of an existing tobacco barn situated near the property entry. The program includes: Reception area with information & ticket sales, gift shop, plant sale area, group tour meeting zone, internet sales office, and storage. Several key challenges guidedthe project: a modestconstruction budget, a tight 5-month design &construction completion schedulecoinciding with a major publicevent and an ambitiousprogram proposed for an existingstructure with limited availablespace. Preserving the exterior iconic image of the tobacco barn structure, the new facility is designed as a Âbuilding-within-a-buildingÊ. For economy and energy efficiency, the project utilizes the shell of the existing barn as an independent shade structure, leaving it essentially unaltered with the exception of minor framing stabilization. Working with existing structural bay modules, new conditioned interior spaces are consolidated to one side of the barn interior while unconditioned spaces are designed as covered flexible-use areas.
La propiedad histórica, reconocida por su colección única de estructuras temáticas y jardines, es parte del Garden Conservancy, una organización nacional dedicada a guardar y conservar jardines excepcionales de América. Financiado en su totalidad por un donante privado, el proyecto supone la rehabilitación de un granero de tabaco existente situado cerca de la entrada de la propiedad. El programa incluye: recepción con información y venta de entradas, tienda de regalos, zona de venta de plantas, un punto de encuentro para grupos, oficina de ventas por internet y almacén. Varios desafíos clave guiaron el proyecto: un presupuesto modesto de construcción, un apretado calendario de cinco meses para el diseño y finalización de la construcción (haciéndolo coincidir con un acontecimiento público) y un ambicioso programa para una estructura existente con un espacio disponible muy limitado. Para preservar la imagen icónica de exterior de la estructura del almacén o galpón de tabaco, las nuevas instalaciones están diseñadas como un „edificio-dentro-de-un-edificio‰. Por economía y eficiencia energética, el proyecto utiliza la cáscara del almacén existente como si fuese una estructura independiente de sombrajo, dejándola esencialmente inalterada con la excepción de una estabilización estructural menor de la cercha. Trabajando con los módulos estructurales existentes, nuevos espacios interiores acondicionados se consolidan a un lado del granero mientras que los espacios no acondicionados se diseñan como áreas cubiertas de uso flexible.

During low-humidity spring & fall seasons, frameless glass doors can be left open to merge both halves of the barn. Following state historic preservation guidelines, new construction is clearly differentiated from the existing structure through light-colored interior wood plank surfaces and material contrasts.
Durante las temporadas de primavera y otoño, de baja humedad, puertas de vidrio sin marco pueden dejarse abiertas para combinar ambas mitades del granero. Siguiendo las directrices de preservación histórica del Estado, la nueva construcción se diferencia claramente de la estructura existente,mediante superficies de tableros de madera interior de colores claros y el contraste de materiales.

The use of light (both natural & artificial) is a key design element that transforms the facility throughout the day, affecting the transparency and visibility of the various programmatic components while amplifying the rustic characteristics of the existing tobacco barn. Acting as either a mirror or a transparent boundary depending on the viewing angle, tempered glass walls reflect and refract sunlight, views and outer barn walls, emphasizing a sense of spaciousness while allowing the original barn to visually register within interior spaces. During the evening, the facility becomes a glowing lantern within the gardens, with the outer barn shell expressed though interior light filtering through gaps between the wood sidings.
El uso de la luz (tanto natural como artificial) es un elemento clave del diseño que transforma las instalaciones durante todo el día, y que afecta a la transparencia y la visibilidad de los diversos componentes programáticos mientras amplifica las características rústicas del almacén de tabaco preexistente. Actúa como un espejo o límite transparente, y dependiendo del ángulo de visualización, paredes de vidrio templado reflejan y refractan la luz del sol, las vistas y las paredes exteriores, haciendo hincapié en el sentido de amplitud y permitiendo que el galpón original quede registrado visualmente dentro de los espacios interiores. Durante la noche, la instalación se convierte en una suerte de linterna encendida dentro de los jardines, con la luz interior expresándose hacia el exterior, filtrada a través de las brechas de los ramales de madera.

The exterior envelope consists on thepreservation of existing tobacco barn (minor framing stabilization), pressure-treated wood framing, closed-cell insulation, gypsum board, sealed concrete slab on grade with rigid insulation lining, tempered glass and painted steel framing. The finish materials used on interiors are: Tongue & groove pine planks, MDFslat-wall system display panels,sealed concrete, tempered glass, translucent film and painted steelframing.Mechanical Systems includenaturalventilation & daylight, ductedheating & cooling system,florescent & dimmable track-mounted par light fixtures.
