{ How to Choose the Perfect
Venue
\
Simple steps to finding and perfecting your ideal place to celebrate. So you’re newly engaged, keen to find the perfect place, set a date and get the wedding planning properly underway. While it might be tempting to leap in, start visiting venues and just book somewhere to get it sorted, it’s worth taking a little time first to consider a few key factors. Before visiting venues, it’s important to have decided your priorities, and what kind of wedding you both have in mind, so that you can agree on the perfect place. The venue is going to be the most important factor in making your dream a reality, and once booked, the amenities, décor and atmosphere of the venue will form the basis of the style of wedding you’re going to have. So choosing the venue is something you should take time over and consider carefully. To help you, we’ve put together some tips and things to consider before making that all-important choice.
20 | One Fab Day
Decide your Priorities Before starting your venue search, the two first things to do are a) set your budget and b) your number of guests. These two numbers are going to be incredibly important in finding the right location, but they’re not the only factors. It’s really essential to consider your priorities – both of your priorities – be it food, quality or quantity of accommodation, activities, location, view, amenities, proximity to home or transport, style of rooms, exclusivity, or just a particular vibe that you are looking for. These are the things to bear in mind when the eventual compromise comes, or when comparing one venue with another.
Decide a Look & Feel Once you’ve thoroughly discussed what’s important to you both and what you would like to include in terms of décor or ideas, a feeling for what kind of celebration you would like should be forming: boho festival or summer garden party, rustic bbq-style or five star foodie heaven. Having an idea of the ‘look and feel’ you’re going for, really makes the venue search much easier – you’re looking for the venue that suits your style of celebration. This clarity will whittle your list of possible venues down to a manageable shortlist. 100 Best Wedding Venues 2018 | 21
Consider the Season When choosing a wedding venue, it’s a good idea to take account of the time of year you’re considering for your celebration, because you want to make the most of your venue’s natural unique charms. Beautiful gardens will be a joy for guests to wander around at a summer wedding, but won’t look their best in November. Likewise, magnificent reception rooms with warm and cosy fireplaces would be wasted in June, but will be wonderful at a winter wedding.
Make it Personal The very best weddings are not those with the biggest budgets or most extravagant entertainments, they’re the ones guests remember because they were the most personal, and reflected the personalities of the couple. The truly personal celebrations feel like the greatest party that couple could ever have. They’re the ones that people go home saying “that was Karen and Dave”. In order to achieve this personal feeling, it’s essential to have a sit down and chat about what you are both interested in and passionate about, and how you could incorporate those elements into the wedding.
Don’t Fight the Venue Décor, Work with it If you’ve a very set idea of what your colour scheme, theme, or look for the wedding is going to be, then it’s important to consider the colour scheme of potential venues carefully. The décor of the venue will be the backdrop for your event. A luxurious hotel lends itself to elegant décor, and rustic style decoration will just seem odd and out of place. If you’ve fallen in love with a venue, it’s for a reason. Be clear about why you love the place, and create the celebration you truly want.
22 | One Fab Day
Be Prepared to Compromise Remember, compromise is key – it’s unlikely any one venue will be absolutely perfectly on brief, but recognising your priorities before starting your search will make the final decision so much easier.

Wedding Styling
101
Keep the Styling Simple the Fantastic Five Areas Once wedding planning starts, a whole new world of design and styling opens up to each couple. At first organising all of these little details might seem overwhelming, but in fact styling a wedding is perfectly manageable once you break down the various tasks. There are two major parts to wedding styling that should compliment each other: the first is what the bridal party will be wearing – the wedding dress, bridesmaid outfits and groomswear; the second is venue dÊcor. At the venue you will be adding final touches, not redecorating (though a few have been know to try). To help you, here are the five areas at the venue where you will need to use your styling skills. 74 | One Fab Day
1
Table Plan Add a personal touch to the entrance space, by getting creative with the table plan, creating an escort card table, or using an innovative guest book to get your guests talking.
2
Cake Table It's an area that is often neglected, but a beautiful wedding cake should be presented properly and in pride of place where everyone can admire it.
3
Dining Tables The central focus of the evening entertainment - artfully arranged dining tables bring a look together. But remember to consider the background décor of the dining room.
4
Outdoor Décor For summer weddings in particular, create a focus for your guests by including outside spaces in your décor plan. Simple touches such as signage, candles and simple floral arrangements bring a look together.
5
Ceremony Décor Whether you’re having a church, civil or humanist wedding, the place where you make your vows deserves a special treatment. 100 Best Wedding Venues 2018 | 75
