Simple steps to finding and perfecting your ideal place to celebrate. So you’re newly engaged, keen to find the perfect place, set a date and get the wedding planning properly underway. While it
Decide your Priorities Before starting your venue search, the two first things to do are a) set your budget and b) your number of guests. These two numbers are going to be incredibly important in finding the right location, but they’re not the only factors. It’s really essential to consider your priorities – both your priorities – be it food, quality or quantity of accommodation, activities, location, view, amenities, proximity to home or transport, style of rooms, exclusivity, or just a particular vibe that you are looking for. These are the things to bear in mind when the eventual compromise comes, or when comparing one venue with another.

that suits your style of celebration. This clarity will whittle your list of possible venues down to a manageable shortlist.
100 Best Wedding Venues 2017 | 15
Consider the Season When choosing a wedding venue, it’s a good idea to take account of the time of year you’re considering for your celebration, because you want to make the most of your venue’s natural unique charms. Beautiful gardens will be a joy for guests to wander around at a summer wedding, but won’t look their best in November. Likewise, magnificent reception rooms with warm and cosy fireplaces would be wasted in June, but will be wonderful at a winter wedding.
Make it Personal The very best weddings are not those with the biggest budgets or most extravagant entertainments, they’re the ones guests remember because they were the most personal, and reflected the personalities of the couple. The truly personal celebrations feel like the greatest party that couple could ever have. They’re the ones that people go home saying “that was so… Karen and Dave”. In order to achieve this personal feeling, it’s essential to have a sit down and chat about what you are both interested in and passionate about, and how you could incorporate those elements into the wedding.
Be Prepared to Compromise Remember, compromise is key – it’s unlikely any one venue will be absolutely perfectly on brief, but recognising your priorities before starting your search will make the final decision so much easier.
Don’t Fight the Venue Décor, Work with it If you’ve a very set idea of what your colour scheme, theme, or look for the wedding is going to be, then it’s important to consider the colour scheme of potential venues carefully. The décor of the venue will be the backdrop for your event. A luxurious hotel lends itself to elegant décor, and rustic style decoration will just seem odd and out of place. If you’ve fallen in love with a venue, it’s for a reason. Be clear why you love the place, and create the celebration you truly want. 16 | One Fab Day

A short trip out to Dun Laoghaire on the Dart takes you straight to the door of Oliveto. With its fantastic views out over Dublin bay, you couldn’t ask for a better spot to celebrate on a sunny day. We Loved: Sharing platters of Italian-inspired delicacies with family and friends, creates a great atmosphere and a fun wedding.

Offering a wide variety of rooms and spaces, which could cater equally to a large extravaganza or a more intimate celebration, the Royal Hospital Kilmainham is one of Dublin’s gems hidden in plain sight. We Loved: The gardens and grounds of the Royal Hospital with their epic views stretching across the Liffey to the Phoenix Park are a true oasis in the city.

Dublin’s Grande Dame, the Shelbourne needs no introduction – it has been one of the city’s premier establishments for over 100 years. We Loved: The smaller reception rooms upstairs offer a range of options for smaller parties and enjoy fantastic views over the Green.

A real gem in the centre of the city, Smock Alley’s exposed brick walls, ornate plasterwork ceiling, and stained glass windows from the theatre’s time as a church make this room on the river is a sight to behold. We Loved: The space is super versatile for ceremony or reception, it’s a blank canvas all your own.

HOME They say "there’s no place like home" and there’s definitely nothing quite like a wedding at home. Not the cheapest option by a long shot - trust me - but if you have the space, the inclination, and lots of energy, then a wedding at home is a way to celebrate without parallel. We loved: The absolute freedom to do what you like, when you like, how you like it. The sense of connection – not just making memories, but adding to a lifetime of memories.

GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY is something we’re really passionate about at One Fab Day. It’s what makes your memories come to life. It’s what helps us to showcase how amazing weddings can and should be. If there was only one piece of advice we could share with you, it would be this: invest in the very best when it comes to your wedding photography. Forty years from now, those photographs detailing all the small intimacies and the big moments; the love, laughter and sheer joy of when you two became one, will be what you treasure. And most importantly, what you have to share with generations to come. So find the person you connect with, who has a great eye, who can really capture the magic of your wedding day in all its glory, and make those lasting mementos you will treasure forever… To all the wonderful photographers who have allowed us to share their work in the 100 Best Wedding Venues 2017 and on OneFabDay.com, we’d like to say a huge thank you.

Civil Wedding • Meet with your registry office well in advance. You must notify them a minimum of three months in advance, but there is often a longer lead time for certain popular dates and times.
• For civil ceremonies, you must register with the registrar of the county in which you intend to marry.
• If you wish to marry at a venue outside of the registry office, check that it is licensed for civil ceremonies, or you will have to organise this.
• Ceremonies outside the registry office may only be performed by registrars on prescribed days at certain times, and incur extra cost. Each county office has its own rules, check with your chosen office on the details.
• Civil ceremonies are performed by civil registrars from Monday to Friday only, never at weekends.
