Why Quit

Page 1

Why Quit? Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs; seven short seconds after taking your first puff, nicotine speeds through your bloodstream and reaches your brain. It makes you feel stimulated, alert, and focused – but at a cost. Your heart races, your blood pressure rises, and your feet and hands feel cold because of decreased circulation to your extremities. Over time, these physical effects wear down your body and your immune system, as well as increase your chances of dying younger due to illnesses associated with smoking. There are many good reasons to quit smoking or using tobacco – the most important being that you are quitting for yourself. But to give you an idea of just how good it is to become a nonsmoker, here’s a short list: QUIT BECAUSE… IT’S GOOD FOR YOUR BODY • You will reduce your risk of all serious illnesses linked to smoking/tobacco use. • You will reduce your risk of cancer of the mouth, esophagus, lungs or bladder, emphysema, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and infertility.
