NALP Responds To California Ban On Gas-Powered Lawn Equipment

New regulations by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) ban the sale of gas-powered lawn equipment in the state starting in 2024. All newly sold, small-motor equipment primarily used for landscaping must be zero-emission by the target date.

The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) expressed its concern that the battery-powered equipment currently on the market isn’t sufficient for high-volume commercial use.

“The industry will work with CARB, the California legislature and the EPA to find ways to support the transition in the form of tax credits, rebates and education and training to help companies adopt new technologies that reduce emissions and help boost the climate-change fighting power of America’s green spaces,” NALP said in a recent press release.

ExMark Introduces First Electric Standing Mower

The Vertex V-Series is Exmark’s first electric walk-behind mower designed to compete in the electric equipment market. It offers the commercial cut quality and durability landscape professionals expect, with a low sound output and zero engine exhaust emissions.

Jamie Briggs, Exmark director of marketing, says the new machine leverages the company’s industry-leading cutting deck and blade design expertise to maximize cut quality and efficiency.

The electric powertrain eliminates the service and maintenance typically associated with gasoline engines, including oil and filter changes. Plus, with electric spindle motors, belt maintenance and replacements are not needed.
