FALL 2013
Hi there, This fall we’re bringing you some more sophisticated shapes – part of our aim to create more versatile fair trade pieces for your wardrobe. Our fall 2013 collection centers around a new skirt shape – the pencil. Think of it as our pocket skirt, but all grown up. Choose between our hand-loomed woven options and the more funky kitenge ones. The trusty shirred tunic is back with ¾ sleeves for fall, and we’ve added some length and shirred seams to our lounge dress. We can’t stop wearing it with a blazer (on our cover). Top off the look with a new scarf – the infinity, in our beautiful, textured herringbone woven fabric. We’re most excited to bring back our home goods collection this season – the Fall 2013 collection kicks off with an updated apron and two sets of mix-and-match napkins that will have you planning your next dinner party. We’ve also made some changes at One Mango Tree – as sure as the seasons change, so do our efforts in Uganda, as we strive to create a truly sustainable business. On September 1, we moved our apparel production to share space with TEXDA, our local weaving partners (see photo, opposite, of our textile on the loom). Gihan Da Silva, our Director in Uganda since 2009, took a new position this summer, and Dhammike Adjit was promoted. It’s a fun change for our staff, as our production of fabric and stitching is now housed in the same place – lots of new opportunities for everyone to learn and incorporate new woven and hand-dyed techniques into our work. With lower costs, we’ll also be able to send more work to Prisca and the ladies in Gulu.
