In 2014 Henbury were introduced to a new young professional golfer, James TobIA.This multi-talented golfer, student and model takes some time away from his busy schedule to catch up and talk golf James Tobia’s golfing career began when he visited the 2005 British Open Championships at St. Andrews Old Course. James describes the moment he watched Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia play and was ‘completely immersed in the action and that night dreamt of one day competing in the British Open and holding up the claret jug victorious!’ To make the dream a reality, James decided to become a pro, as a result of captaining the elite BB&O county team and having a top ten on the Jamega tour whilst still amateur. James, tell us who is your current coach? Luther Blacklock who is based at Woburn Golf Club (my home club) and Matt Belsham who is a specialist on the Mac O’grady swing motion. I also have a physical trainer Alan Humphries based at my local gym who specialises in professional athletes. Is Woburn Golf Club where you practice? Yes, it’s in Buckinghamshire and is also the base of Ian Poulter and Charley Hull so I am in good company. Woburn has three championship courses and is always in superb condition so I always enjoying playing and training at the club. What do you find most difficult about golf? The most difficult thing about golf is the amount of hours you have to put into training and hitting thousands of golf balls a week. It gets in the way of, or totally eliminates a social life, time with the family and relationships. Time management is vital in making everything work alongside each other. They say there is no such thing as being busy, if you really want something you’ll make time for it. That is very true! I always make time for my training as it is my livelihood and I train up to eight hours a day. I play a round in the morning, then I have a putting and short game session. Then after dinner I am back on the driving range, seeing my
coach and working on my technique. Even when I am relaxing at home I am constantly thinking of how to do things better and strengthening my mind set. Being that committed must come at a price? The average costs are around £400 per tournament in the UK which includes the entry fee and the accommodation. This however doesn’t include the qualifying school and yearly membership costs at the start of the season. The Euro Pro tour then has a £400 fee to enter the qualifying school for that year’s season. The qualifying school ranks you on where you finish in
I have a bet on with a shop owner in St Andrews that if I qualify for the British Open at St Andrews next year he will refund me for the hickory golf club that I bought off him! You have lots planned for 2015, have you thought about your long term plans? Yes, my plans for the future are to qualify for the US and Open Championships and to gain my European Tour Card before I am 2728 years old. Also, I plan to compete on the Sunshine tour in Africa and the Asian tour. My main goal is to be a big name on the PGA tour on TV and be a major championship
‘The secret to making it work is, first of all, have the deepest desire to make it work and the faith and belief that it can work!’ its rounds to then determine how many tournament’s you will get into in the following season. If you are ready to enter the European Tours Qualifying School then the fee is around £1,600. For me to play a full competitive season on the Jamega tour I would need £5-10,000 to assist me in doing this. I haven’t also addressed petrol costs for travel, food, coaching fees, and if you have a mental coach and fitness trainer. There is much to consider when trying to finance your career as a touring professional golfer. What tournaments did you take part in this year? I have competed in many developmental golf tours including the Jamega Tour, Alps Tour, Euro Pro Tour, TP Tour and Players Tour. Next season after Christmas will be my biggest season ever! I intend to compete a full season on the Euro Pro Tour over the UK and hope to feature on Sky Sports if I do well! Alongside that I want to play in my favourite Jamega tour and Alps tour events. I also have a TP tour event on the calendar and a match play tournament where the final will be at my home club! I will also be competing in the US and British Open qualifying tournaments and
winner. I want to be a Ryder Cup player like Ian Poulter. My plans for the future are vast and I plan to work hard to achieve them all. You’ve mentioned Ian Poulter a few times, is he your greatest inspiration in sport? My greatest inspiration in sport is still within golf and it is Ian Poulter at the Ryder Cup! His determination and ability of self-motivation and will to succeed was breath-taking to watch at the 2012 Ryder Cup. You’re also a mentor and coach, do you enjoy passing on your golfing wisdom? Yes, I absolutely love to pass on my golfing wisdom to others at every opportunity I get. I regularly coach and mentor golfers who are trying to achieve their own goals and help them technically and mentally, with preparation and planning. I coach golf in local schools to budding young beginners and always express the importance of the basic fundamentals like grip, posture and alignment.

In your busy schedule you also manage to attend University. What course is it you are doing and when will you graduate? I am studying a BSc Honours in Sports Science & Biomechanics. I will be graduating 2016 as I am doing the course part time so it coincides with my other vocations. After that I want to achieve a Masters and PhD as this is just for personal reasons and one of my many goals in life. Finally, do you have any words of wisdom for future golfers? My words of wisdom to future golfers would be: The secret to making it work is, first of all, have the deepest desire to make it work and the faith and belief that it can work! Then hold that clear definite vision in your mind and vision it happening step by step without one thought of doubt or disbelief! Train hard, work hard. Whenever you are having a tough time just vision what it is you desire to achieve and what you need to do to turn your goals and dreams into reality. Listen to your coaches and just put the work and hours in. Don’t over complicate things.

How do we measure up? GET THE PERFECT FIT, IT’S AS EASY AS...
1 2 3 Measure yourself: seems obvious, but a good place to start. Chest: measure under your arms across the fullest part of your chest. Waist: measure your natural waist, a sideways bend will help find it! Inside Leg: measure from the crotch to the bottom of the leg.
You now know what size the garment has ‘To Fit’ hence we call this actual body measurement the ‘To Fit’ measurement.
What type of fit do you want? Standard (looser fitting) Tailored (tapered at waist) Slim Fit (fits closer to the body).
Nearly there. As we need to be able to move around, clothes are nearly always larger than the body measurement so there will be a difference between what your body measures and what the clothes measure.The bigger the difference the more space to move and the looser the fit.

Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production: WRAP. Is an independent, non profit organisation dedicated to the certification of lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing throughout the world. All Henbury’s cotton and polyester/cotton polo’s are WRAP certified.

WASH GUIDE Stand Up Collar A separate sewn on collar band provides extra strength at the neck to support the collar. Giving excellent shape retention and added comfort. 60 Degrees These garments can be washed on a 60 degree wash. Wrinkle Resistant Garments treated with a Wrinkle Resist Finish that ensures minimal ironing. Easy Care Fabric finish that makes garments easy to wash, dry and iron. Woolmark Registered Trademark that gives the customer added confidence in the performance of these garments. Machine washable on wool cycle using Woolmark approved detergent. Stretch Elastane content that gives stretch for improved comfort and fit. Teflon Fabric treatment which repels stains and water to keep garments looking good for longer.
Anti-UV Ultra Violet Protection Factor +50. Waterproof Fabric is tightly woven or coated to prohibit water penetration. Windproof Fabric is tightly woven or coated to prevent penetration by the wind. Wicking Properties Specially engineered fabric which absorbs moisture from the skin and transfers it to the fabric surface where it evaporates. Keeping the wearer cool and comfortable. Taped Seams Heat seal tape applied to seams to prevent water penetration and make garments fully waterproof. Anti-Bacterial A special fabric finish that inhibits the growth of bacteria and prevents odour. Aegis® Anti-microbial shield for protection against odour and bacteria to keep the wearer fresh. PUFY® Wicking woven fabric with anti-uv and quick dry properties. Coolplus and CoolTouch™ Fabric using this specially engineered yarn, absorbs moisture from the skin and transports it to the fabric’s surface, where it evaporates to keep the wearer cool and comfortable. ®
To ensure your Henbury garments have a long and happy life, please follow the care instructions carefully. Always wash similar colours together. Use colour recommended detergents for coloured garments as these help prevent fading. Wash and dry inside out. Re-shape while damp. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not iron decoration. All Henbury Lambswool garments are Woolmark® approved for machine washing. We strongly recommend machine washing using a Wool Cycle and a Woolmark® approved detergents only. Wash at 30°C. Cool wash that is gentler on garments and environmentally friendly. Wash at 40°C. Use for cotton fabrics. Wash at 40°C. Reduced agitation. Use for man made fabrics. Wash at 40°C. Wool cycle. Washable at 60°C. Do not use bleach. Do not tumble dry. May be tumble dried at low setting. Cool iron no steam. Medium heat iron. Do not dry clean. May be dry cleaned.
