ICT BASIC TRAINING ICTalk RWANDA On 26th August,2021
WHY THE PROJECT In Rwanda (especially in rural areas), we are faced by a high rate of digital illiteracy. The only most common thing the people in rural areas use most as a digital platform is radios. As we all know, the world is growing rapidly in terms of technology and hence becoming more digitalized. Starting with public services, to health care, to business services, to banking services; and every other daily activity. So whether we like it or not, we are supposed to adapt to all these development growth activities. That’s why everyone needs to at least have computer-based basic skills and which leads to the reason why we are providing the “ICT Basic Training Program”; that also goes with “Train the Trainer Program” alongside.
ICTalk focuses on Digital Literacy and ICT skills for all youngsters and people in communities. Our dream is to bring these important skills to all corners of Rwanda, because we see ICT is the backbone of personal development, sustainable change and economic growth; employment and welfare for all. Therefore, ICTalk is a community based Social Enterprise. In our Enterprise the impact is as important as the profit. Because we consciously focus on the 17 Global Goals With No One Left Behind, we are always ready to be flexible in creating customized project budgets with our partners.
HOW THE PROJECT WORKS
ICT Basic training was developed to help people know a little bit about the use of computers so that they can help themselves with simple tasks like sending mails, composing documents, use of social media platforms and also to develop the platforms for their lifestyle and products. So far, ICTalk has trained more 500 citizens from different parts of the country with the aid of our partners as well. Apart from the ICT Basic Training itself, we have also developed “Train the Trainer” program whereby the best performers from the ICT training are chosen and trained to become trainers themselves. We have been running this project for 3 years and we are still going

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Our project consist of two main part which are ICT Basic Training and Train the Trainer program. In ICT basic training we train how to use MS Office suite, use of internet and browsing, we also train how to send email properly. After completing the ICT Basic program; best performers are equipped with skills to become new trainers, also known as ‘ Train the Trainer’ program.
OUR PROJECT IMPACT Currently we trained more than 500 people and many of them got to use the skills they were given and they implemented it in their daily life. This is the big impact and it is our purpose of our project and also as the time goes by, we notice the big change of ICT skills on our successful trainees. Some of our trainees are doing public secretary services.
We reached more than 500 young people in different areas of Rwanda. And we worked with OWC (One World Citizen ), Necessary Generation and different schools and also committed youngsters.
EVALUATION, CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS The uniqueness behind our projects’ ideas is to make every citizen; either young or old; feel like they are not being left out in this world that is having rapid digital development. As ICTalk, we are still few in number but we hope to expand and grow because we would also love our projects to be copied in every place necessary around the world Carrying out these projects require so much effort and commitment because we have to reach out to people respectively to their living neighborhoods. So for that to happen, we need financial support to make it happen. ICT Basic Training was already sponsored by One World Citizens but due to pandemic situation, they can’t be able to fund the program. It is also our intention to be free from grants. To succeed this, we are investing our resources and efforts in E-Somo

FUTURE PERSPECTIVES Before ICTalk was found, we were just high school graduates in the department of computer science. We were privileged to have a bit more than what we needed in regards of digital skills and we thought maybe we can give back to the community a little bit from what we learnt and that’s how we got into ICT Basic training.
We truly hope that what started as a dream shouldn’t end as one but rather a reality. We are motivated to go far and beyond with this project and that’s we are making a call of action to anyone who might be interested to support this project because we think that all it takes is just one step to a better digital life and it’s meant for everyone. We want to train more than a 1000 Rwandan citizen. We also hope that this project can be copied in other countries.
