i.e.d.bARCELONA SUMMER COURSE IN FASHION TECHNIQUES

MEDITERRÁNEO (a summer play) DYEING & printing JULY 2014

the on land team

The WORKSHOP WHAT THE DYEING & PRINTING WORKSHOP IS ABOUT: • Learning concepts (some theory...just a bit) • Learning & experimenting DYEING techniques • Learning & experimenting PRINTING techniques • Use and implementation of the techniques through a Costume Design project

The Mediterranean Project THE BRIEFING FOR THE PROJECT • You are in charge of the costume design for a play (theater, dance, children play…) and have to project 4-6 outfits for the main characters. • The background/spirit of the play is «Mediterranean Sea» • The work is about FABRICS, not shapes, fits, volumes. You must find your language/style through the materials you use.

SO, WE’VE BEEN TYING...

...AND WE’VE BEEN DYEING...

...AND WE’VE BEEN PRINTING.

AND as soon as we’ve been in total control of our techniques, we’ve been thinking, creating, planning and projecting the outfits for a play, a history, a tale about the mediterranean sea

MUCH TO OUR SURPRISE Much to our surprise, the concept of Mediterranean Sea was pretty different from one person to another. For example Mona, from Iran, had an idea of the mediterranean sea as a sort of a quiet tropical lagoon, with turquoise and light blue as main colours. Sara from Colombia, on the other hand, used to the infinite caribbean shores, imagined the mediterranean as a closed, deep, dark, dangerous, almost claustrophobic sea. And so on. With such visions, the costumes, designs, pattern and colours used in the projects had necessarly to be very personal and unique. And so it was.

AT WORK! So, these are some pictures from the fantastic projects realized during the workshop by: Alejandra (Mexico) Daria (Russia) Gabriela (Guatemala) Gemma (Scotland) Maria Isabel (Mexico) Mona (Iran) Sara (Colombia)
