The Desert Sun
DESERT SHADOWS
Hello everyone, it is hard to believe that it is December already. Wow how time flies when you’re having fun! If you are not having fun come and let me know and let’s see what we can do to change that. I am happy not to be facing the freezing temperatures, scrapping ice off my windshield and shoveling snow in Ohio. It is so much better being in the sunshine of Arizona and Desert Shadows. Have you completed your Christmas shopping? Or do you have your Christmas cards ready to be mailed? If not time is slipping away and Christmas day will be here before you know it. And don’t forget the most important part, baking cookies!!! CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Christmas party will be on Wednesday Evening, December 19th. We will start out at 6:15pm with the choir singing followed by a Christmas Carol sing-a-long. The show will start at 7:00 p.m. and our entertainers are the Short & Sweet Dancers. I am sure you will enjoy them and it should prove to be a fun evening for all. ACTIVITIES OFFICE HOURS
There will be cookies and drinks after the show that you can enjoy while visiting with friends. Tickets are needed and can be purchased at the activities office for $4.00 each. Hang onto your ticket stubs because while you are enjoying your cookies and beverage there will be drawings for door prizes. CHRISTMAS DINNER: Christmas dinner will be Tuesday, December 25th at 1pm. Desert Shadows will provide HAM and there will be a sign up sheet posted on the board in lobby, you need to put one name on each line and list the item each person will bring to the dinner table set for 16. Coffee and Tea will be provided, but please bring your own table service. Volunteers are appreciated to help clean up after dinner.

Computer Users Group There has been no planning meeting held thus far BUT watch for signs when we will start meeting. There may be some informal meetings in December and hopefully we can get a schedule of topics out in the January newsletter. Meetings are usually held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., in the Back Auditorium. The Computer User Group is open to everyone. We usually have a 30-45 minute presentation on a computer-related topic each Wednesday, which is always followed by groupgenerated questions and answers. The group is very informal, with an easy give-and-take atmosphere.

Within the group, there are “experts” on both Windows-based computers (Dell, Acer, HP, Toshiba, Sony, etc) and Mac (Apple) based computers, who can help with questions. Meetings generally last from 1 to 1-1/2 hours. (Stay as long as you can.) If you would like some personal help, please come to one of our meetings to make contact with an “expert”. Bring your laptop to the class! Please come and check the group out. It’s FREE and FUN and often there are hand-outs for you to take home! THE DESERT SUN
Guy’s and Gal’s Golf The annual fall couples golf tournament was held Nov. 16th at Bellair Golf Course. Thirty five golfers enjoyed the beautiful weather and good company for a great day of golf. About 45 people attended the awards dinner held in the Desert Shadows auditorium. Cash awards were presentd to the winning teams: 1st place: Doris Kelly, Grant White, Bill Pudlik and Richard Heried 2nd place: Lynn Cunningham, Ken Williams, Ron Musgrave and Paul Newton 3rd place: Barb Musgrave, Marlene Theyerl, Ralph Spiva and Eldon Durham There were awards for "closet-to-the-pin" on two holes each for the women and for the men. Ron Musgrave and Ken Williams won for the men, and Jill Switzer won for the women. Sadly, not one lady managed to get on the green for the other award. Putting contest: Three players managed to get the ball in the hole-- Chris Sellars, Eldon Durham and Wanda Cormack performed that miracle. Sign-up for the spring tournament will be on Saturday, March 2nd and the tournament will be held on Friday, March 15th. We would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to all those who donated their time, prizes and to those who participated. We look forward to seeing even more of you at the spring tournament
Announcements PARK PLAY: Paul Lepage will take charge of the play this season and he would like to have an initial meeting on Wednesday, December 5th at 3:00pm in front auditorium to discuss this year’s play and assign parts. All those interested or curious should attend. No acting experience is necessary. Also need volunteers to work on set and behind the scene. LIBRARY: A request for DVD’s from the library. If you have any DVD’S you would like to donate please put them in the RETURN box and they will put them out. Remember once you donate the DVD it will not be returned to you. There were about 90 on the shelf but when they are taken out and used there are some that don’t come back, so now they are short on inventory. The library staff thanks you for your help. ORANGEWOOD VENDOR’S DAY Jane from Orangewood came over for some help on finding venders for Orangewood’s FIRST vendor’s day. Orangewoods sale will be on Saturday December 8th, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Not far to go so if you are interested I am sure they would be glad to have you stop over and check it out. DECEMBER 21ST Larry and I are leaving Desert Shadows for a week and going to visit family in Tennessee and Ohio. The Activity Office will continue on as Cliff and Char Simpson and Gary and Kathy Miles will be manning the office in our absence. I am counting on all of my WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS to help them out as they contact you for help. We will return in time to get New Years Eve underway. I hope all of you have a very WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY and we will miss everyone of you. We are so THANKFUL to have ended up in such a wonderful park with the most wonderful people to call our extended family. Each and every one of you are very special to us and we would not want to live any place else. Sadly, Dawn (who worked in my office) will not be coming back this season. She is taking care of her parents in Arkansas. When we return I will have Char and Kathy working in the office with me, allowing Larry to once again retire from his office duties.
