Resort Activities Merry Christmas from everyone here at Desert Shadows. Can you believe that it is December already and we are headed for another new year. There are many activities this month to take us to the end of 2013. Just keep your eye on the bulletin board in the lobby, keep your newsletter close at hand and your calendar near by for all of the events planned.

DECORATING CONTEST: Join in the FUN and Decorate Your Lot for the Christmas Holidays. Judges will NOT be park residents. Prize will be awarded to winner. Judging will be from Tuesday Dec. 17th until Friday the 20th with winner being posted Saturday, December 21st. Join in the fun & get in the Christmas Spirit. Be thankful we won’t be decorating in a foot or more of snow or with temperatures below zero. READY... SET... GO DECORATE!!!! CHRISTMAS PARTY: On Tuesday, December 17th at 7:00 PM we will have our Christmas Party. Come and enjoy entertainment provided by Short and

Sweet dancers with refreshments for all. You can purchase your tickets for $4.00 for park residents and $6.00 if out of the park at the activity office or at the door the night of the program. Mr. & Mrs. Clause will be present. CHRISTMAS DINNER: Ham will be provided by the Desert Shadows, but we will need volunteers to cook the ham. Please come to the activity office if you would like to volunteer. Dinner will be set up (tables of 16) just like Thanksgiving and everyone is to bring a dish to share. There will be a sign up sheet in the lobby, please put one name on each line with the dish you are bringing. NEW YEAR’S EVE: Tickets on sale now for the New Year’s Eve dance. Tickets will be available for park residents only until December 17th. Starting December 18th, the tickets will be available for the general public. There will not be any food provided at the dance this season. You are welcome to bring your own food, snacks and beverages, but please no crock pots.

Also dance tickets can be purchased with cash only, sorry we can not accept checks or credit cards at the activity office. Thank you for your cooperation. The activity office is looking for volunteers to sell tickets to the dance at the activities office during regular hours. If you would be interested please come to the activity office to discuss what days or hours you would be available. Thank you in advance for your support. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Saturday, December the 7th and 21st are the dates you need to keep track of so you don’t miss a very good breakfast, cooked by the very talented men of Desert Shadows. POT LUCK LUNCH: The December pot luck lunch date is Thursday the 12th. Come and enjoy lunch, relax and socialize. Enjoy the Christmas atmosphere. VENDORS DAY: The next vendor’s day will be Friday, December 13th. Bring your friends and neighbors to shop at all the great vendors. We are expecting another great turn out with new vendor’s and merchandise to look at. Christmas is just around the corner, so come and finish your shopping. And who can pass up a hot dog for lunch? inform you that Bingo will be CANCELLED for Thursday, December 26th. WELCOME BACK DINNER: Thank you to everyone for coming out and making the Welcome Back Dinner such a rousing success. The hundreds in attendance got the chance to reunite with old acquaintances and make new friends. Thanks to all the wonderful cooks, everyone left full and happy. RED HAT EVENTS: On Nov. 20th, several ladies visited Norterra in Happy Valley to see what Charming Charlie’s had for Accessories. It was a colorful and informative visit with lunch following at the Paradise Bakery. YUM! December 12th, will see some couples at the Musical Instrument Museum for a 7:30 pm program, “Beau Soleil avec Michael Doucet: A Cajun Christmas”….a fusion of New Orleans Jazz, folk, blues, rock, swamp pop and more. Purchase your tickets at 480-478-6000 and come along. Arizona Broadway Theatre for “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” matinee on Sunday, January 26th is our next happening. It appears that all the spots are filled and there is a waiting list---make your own arrangements and come along! February dates TBA for Turf Paradise and the Arabian Horseshow. He will be sadly missed but your kindness has helped a lot. Note: John was a big part of the computer group.

Guy’s and Gal’s Golf On Nov. 15th, we held the fall G & G outing. It was a great day, and I believe that everyone enjoyed themselves. Especially these folks, the winners. First place team was Ruth Hauskens, Pat Winland, Rich Heried, and Paul Lemay. Second place was Shirlene Ankrum, Lynn Cunningham, Barry Baxter, and Rocco Foley. Third place was Peggy Winje, Glenna Gilespy, Ken Williams, and Brian McCourt. Closest to the pin for the women were Peggy Winje, and Glenna Gilespy. Closest to the pin for men were Jim Grady and Ken Williams. Dinner and cocktails were enjoyed at the Iron Works. This is a fun biannual event, and our Spring outing will be on March 14, 2014. Mark the date on your calendar and prepare to come out and have a fun day with your neighbors.

Church News December 2013 The Desert Shadows Interdenominational Church meets in the Auditorium at 9AM on Sundays. Everyone is welcome.
