Hello from the activity office. This is the last full month of the season, hard to believe it got here so fast. We are trying to go out with a Bang as usual, another full month of lots of activities and events for you to enjoy. Keep your eye on your calendars, the bulletin boards and posters in the main lobby for a list of up-to-date activities; you won’t to miss a thing! Our bi-weekly Pancake Breakfast is Saturday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 16th. As usual, you can buy tickets from 7:15 to 8:15am for $3.00. These are the last two dates of the season, so come have breakfast with us before it’s too late. We will be having two potlucks this month. The first will be on Thursday, March 7th at noon. The Second potluck will be Thursday, March 21st. If you plan on attending either potluck, please sign up in the lobby. The more the merrier….and yummier! Desert Shadows Quilt show will be held on Tuesday, March 5th from 10:00am to 2:00pm in our auditorium. Come and look at all the beautiful quilts that have been made by local artist right here at Desert Shadows.
Your chance to clean out your shed, closet, extra room, etc. for the last patio sale of the season on SATURDAY, MARCH 9 at 8am to whenever. Come by the office for more details. Why not make your old junk be someone else’s new junk. Desert Shadows has a live band every Saturday night from 710pm. Come out and enjoy some live entertainment and dancing. On March 2, we will have The 4/50’s band playing for our oldies dance, so ladies you can wear your poodle skirts, and guys your jeans and white T shirts. On March 9, it will be Michael on the keys. March 16th will be our St. Patrick’s dance (wear your green) with EXIT 40 Band. Our Hawaiian Luau dance will be held March 23, with Short & Sweet Dancers and entertainers. Our last dance of the season will be the 30th with Come Back Budd. But let’s not just make it any dance - wear a hat, any hat, big hat, small hat, funny hat, ugly hat, it doesn’t matter, just wear a HAT. You ask why? Because regular dances are just old hat. On March 15th at 5:00pm come and enjoy Irish stew and soda bread for $1 a bowl and root beer floats for a $1. Wear your green as this is part of our St. Patrick’s Day celebration. You don’t want to get a “pinch”!

There will be a lot of fun activities going on all evening. Mindy will be showing us how to do the hula and other fun dances. The dinner will be pulled pork with Hawaiian Luau types of food and desserts. Also Hawaiian punch or you can bring your drink of choice. If there is anyone out there that would like to volunteer for this event please come to activity office, also if you have suggestions or ideas for the evening I would love to hear them. Paul Michaels will be taking your Hawaiian pictures in the back auditorium for $2. You will be able to pick up your two 5x7 pictures the next week in the activity office (or if your leaving I can mail them to you). The PRICE for the Luau will be $10 a person for resort residents and $12 a person for non-resident guests. You MUST purchase your tickets at activity office NO LATER THAN Wed., March 20. The volunteer appreciation lunch will be March 13 at Noon. If you have been a volunteer this season please come to activity office and sign up for the lunch. The last vendor day of the season will be on Friday, March 8 from 10-1pm. you sure don’t want to miss the last one, there’s bound to be something you just can’t live without until next November. Come by and see all the vendors and the various crafts and goods for sale. I know the season is almost over but we are in need of someone to organize the shuffleboard game on Fridays at 10:30am. Anyone interested, please shuffle on down to the activity office and volunteer. If no one steps forward there will not be anyone organizing it for the remainder of this season. Lastly, the BINGO voting results are in. By a large majority you voted to keep game prices the same, so there will be no change to BINGO.
