Nationally known as the “Deer Capital of Texas”, the city and surrounding area offer a wide variety of natural attractions along with many historic and modern venues.
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
Breathtaking, awesome, intriguing and beautiful - - words that have attempted to describe the massive dome of pink granite just south of Llano on Texas 16, then west on RR 965. 8.4 miles of hiking trails beckon hikers of all ages and levels. From the summit, visitors get a breathtakingly unobstructed Hill Country view that justifies this area’s name. The Native American mystery and Texas Ranger history that surround it create a unique allure to this ancient land.
Music & The Arts
Music has always been an important part of Llano’s history and Llano is increasingly becoming a sought out music venue for all ages and all types of music. The Fuel Coffee House hosts talented artists performing a variety of music genres throughout the year. Llano also has the fantastic Badu House and Wine Pub which provides ongoing live entertainment each Thursday and Friday. The Art Studio Tour in March highlights the work of some twenty local artists working in mediums such as clay, fabric, glass, iron, jewelry, leather, metal, paint, photography, wood and more. “We live here, we create here.” Sample this part of Llano at the Dust Devil Diver Photography and Fine Arts Center.
Wildflowers
Llano County annually hosts thousands of visitors wandering the back roads to view the stunning spring landscape and uniquely beautiful geography. The scene includes the Texas mainstays, the Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes along with a large selection of purples, yellows and whites. The Visitor Center has wildflower scouts in search of the most colorful routes of the day to share with our guests.

lano County was established by the Texas state legislature on February 1, 1856 and the location for the L town was chosen on June 14, 1856. Into the 1870’s, the town was little more than a frontier trading center
with a handful of log buildings. The first bank was founded in 1879. The 1880’s brought several new businesses to serve the county’s farmers and ranchers. In 1885, an ornate brick courthouse was completed on the square, but it was destroyed by a fire on January 22, 1892. The present county courthouse was completed and occupied on August 1, 1896. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Anticipation of huge economic growth based on iron deposits discovered at Iron Mountain in northwestern Llano County attracted outside capital and the boom years of Llano - from 1886 to 1893 - were launched. Charters were undertaken for a dam, an electric power plant, a streetcar system, and electric lights. Steeltown names, such as Birmingham, Pittsburgh, and Bessemer, were chosen for streets on the north side; Llano was to be the “Pittsburgh of the West”. However, only a small dam and the electric street lights were completed. The town was incorporated, the river was bridged, and a railroad terminal was established. During this period, many new businesses were started, including several granite cutting and finishing companies. However, the county’s mineral resources, with the significant exception of granite, did not exist in commercially exploitable concentrations, and hence the boom period soon faded. Farming, ranching, and the granite industry remained the foundations of the town’s economy in the 20th century. Llanite, a rare type of brown rhyolite porphyry with sky-blue quartz crystals and rusty-pink microcline feldspar, is found nowhere else in the world, except in Llano County. Llanite can be found along a highway cut 9 miles north of Llano on Texas 16. Llano County Courthouse

If your puppy does his business in a place where people stroll, then for the sake of all of us, picking up should be your goal. If it’s beneath your dignity to stop and scoop it up, then maybe in reality you shouldn’t own a pup!
