REASONS TO STAY ANOTHER DAY Twin Falls offers attractions for every traveler’s taste. It takes more than an afternoon to experience the Twin Falls area. So plan a few days at least to take in the sights, sounds, and splendor! The canyons are the pride of Twin Falls. Accessed from a park beneath the magnificent arches of the Perrine Bridge, the Centennial Park Trail is a quick way to enjoy the canyon’s astonishing scenery and abundant wildlife as you follow a long stretch of undeveloped riverbank. River adventure tours, fishing, golfing, and swimming attractions line the Snake River Canyon. Shoshone Falls – The Falls are a must on the visitor’s agenda. Located on the Snake River, east of Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls cascades through a lava-walled canyon over a basaltic horseshoe rim nearly 1,000 feet wide. Called the “Niagara of the West,” the Falls have a sheer drop greater than the famous Niagara Falls. There is a park, picnic area and overlook at the Falls. Perrine Bridge – A most fantastic view awaits the visitor from this bridge. At the time of its construction, this was the highest bridge in the world at 475’ above the Snake River. This is one of the few bridges in the United States in which Base Jumping is permitted year round. Shoshone Ice Caves – This cave complex is one of the natural wonders of the world. Trained guides explain the geologic, volcanic and historic background in these large lava caves with unusual, yearround ice floors. Thousand Springs Scenic Byway – From the Snake River Plain Aquifer, an abundance of natural springs gush from the steep canyon walls and cascade into the river below. Evel Knievel’s Jump Site – The jump site can be seen from the Twin Falls Visitors Center at the south end of the Perrine Bridge. Balanced Rock – Over 48 feet tall and 40 tons, the wind-carved rock balances precariously on a pedestal only 3 feet by 17 inches. Nearby Balanced Rock Park is an excellent spot for a picnic. 6 |
