With the ever changing tastes in fashion, we find ourselves adapting and moving with the times to stay relevant within today’s market. Over recent years we have learnt just what our customers are looking for. Unfortunately, items which may have been in demand some years ago are now no longer desired within our 21st century style of living, therefore this has to be taken into consideration when we are choosing stock for you to buy. We know this also has disadvantages for those wishing to sell when you find some of the antique pieces you bought many years ago are no longer the investment they once were. However, always remember, you have enjoyed those pieces, they have brought you delight and pleasure for many years. Moving forward we are learning to embrace technology in finding ways to make sourcing and buying antiques via the internet much easier for you. Articles can now be viewed in video form either on our website or via YouTube. The collection within these pages reflect what you would expect to find in my showrooms when visiting Lennox Cato in Edenbridge. However, this year for one day only we are hosting our Summer Selling Exhibition at The Royal Thames Yacht Club, Knightsbridge, London, where items can be viewed and purchased. Thereafter, they will return to our galleries in Edenbridge. It just remains for myself and Susan to thank you, friends and clients, who kindly make the purchases that allow us to continue to do something we love and take pride in. With my very best wishes,

The Brownlow hall chairs
A fine and rare pair of elegant George III mahogany hall chairs in the manner of Thomas Chippendale. Each having a pierced scroll back with a painted armorial cartouche at the centre. The dished and shaped seats are supported by cabriole legs terminating in scroll toes. One chair inscribed to the reverse ‘Home, Sweet Home, 30 Hill Street London’ and with the dates 1785 and 1858, corresponding to the term of the leased London residence of Lord and Lady Brownlow. £24,000 English circa 1765 Height 95cm (37½ins) Width 48cm (18¾ins) Depth 44cm (17¼ins) Ref 788011

Marble top side cabinet
A Georgian satinwood and faux rosewood break-fronted side cabinet in the Gillow design, having a later agate type marble top above two short and one long drawer to the frieze. The four doors below with pale green silk panels each

enclosing a single shelf. The six turned faux rosewood tapering and fluted gilt decorated column supports terminating in ring-turned tapering feet. Replaced brass knob handles. £18,750

Gillows of Lancaster 18th century cylinder mahogany desk raised on four square tapering legs. The whole is beautifully strung throughout with ebony and small panels of burr yew-wood veneers. Incorporating a fully fitted interior to the cylinder desk with cupboards above. Cabriole leg foot stool
Carved mahogany cabriole leg stool in the Chippendale style raised on ball and claw foot, and finely carved throughout with large shell on the knee and acanthus leaf decoration. The whole has wonderful presence, very much like the original 18th century article. £1,950

A most sought after red ground coloured papier mache rectangular tray. Beautifully decorated with birds in flight, insects, trailing foliage of bamboo, all in the Chinoiserie taste. Mahogany side cabinet
Attributed to the workshop of Gillow’s of Lancaster. A mahogany break-fronted side cabinet with raised upper section and carved ends. The lower section has a central drawer with dummy drawers either side. A single central door cupboard which encloses two large deep drawers with original gilt-brass handles. The two small single door cupboards are fitted with shelves. Library arm chair
A fine quality 19th century mahogany metamorphic library arm chair in the manner of Robert Manwaring who was an English 18th century furniture designer and cabinet maker. The dates of his birth and death are unknown. He was a contemporary and imitator of Thomas Chippendale, and was considered as Chippendales rival. Manwaring prided himself upon work which he described as “genteel”, and his speciality was chairs. This chair has an outstanding carved back and back splat, shaped arms, cluster columned front legs, and blind fret-work panels around the seat. In the years of handling and selling metamorphic pieces of furniture, I find this article to be one of the best I have acquired for quality and design and comfort. £4,750

Pair of wine coolers
An outstanding pair of Georgian mahogany octagonal brass bound wine coolers/cellarets also known as Gardes de Vin. This design is recorded in George Hepplewhite’s The Cabinet-Maker and Upholstery’s 1st Edition 1788, 2nd Edition 1789 and 3rd Edition 1794. Each with four brass bands on a tapered body and brass carrying handles to the side. The lidded tops each opening to reveal a lead lined interior. The whole is supported on a carved fluted frieze with four reeded tapering legs with square cup castors on barrelled wheels.
