A Message From the Commissioner Welcome to the 2016 Dauphin County Resource DIRECTORY for the Caregiver, Aging, and Disabled! Consider this guide to be your “go-to” publication for services and opportunities for adults age 50 and over, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities in Dauphin County. Whether you’re in need of home care services, volunteer opportunities, consumer protection, or Medicare, you will find it here. Among the upcoming events and seminars that provide valuable advice are a series of “Medicare 101” sessions to help enrollees select plans that best fit their needs. We’re once again holding our Older & Wiser series, which provides information on topics such as living wills, healthcare facilities, and powers of attorney. For more information about these events, or to register for a one-on-one appointment to go over Medicare options following one of the sessions, call the county Area Agency on Aging at (717) 780-6130. On-Line Publishers’ Dauphin County 50plus EXPO, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 31 at the Hershey Lodge, is another great opportunity to learn about services in our area; go to www.50plusexpopa.com or call (717) 285-8123 for more information. In addition to this guide, assistance in finding the services and information you need is available by calling the county Area Agency on Aging’s Information & Referral Resource Center at (717) 7806130. Specialists are waiting to help you solve your problem or direct you to the appropriate organization or service. By connecting you to the services you or a loved one may need, we hope to foster safe and healthy families and improve our region’s quality of life.
George P. Hartwick III has served as a Dauphin County commissioner since 2003. He has oversight of the county’s Human Services Department, including Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging, and is the statewide policy chair for human services for the County Commissioners Association of PA. www.50plusLifePA.com

A Message From the Publisher What you’re holding in your hands—or viewing online—may be a book, but it’s more than that. It’s also a key, a special key designed to open multiple doors. When searching for assistance or information, we often know the resources we need are out there, but we don’t know where to start searching. The Dauphin County Resource DIRECTORY for the Caregiver, Aging, and Disabled is created to unlock the doors to programs and services available in your own community, to ease you through whatever doorway begins your path toward answers and help. An extensive source of information, the Resource DIRECTORY connects you to an abundance of organizations, businesses, and services for Dauphin Countians who are over age 50, who are caring for a loved one, or who have disabilities. Within its hundreds of easy-to-read listings, you’ll find options for housing, physicians, veterans’ services, legal counsel, advocacy, home improvement, and more. In addition to your many local resources, there are also state and federal programs available that can provide assistance. Plus, we include contact information for Dauphin County police departments, post offices, and emergency services, as well as county, state, and federal government phone numbers for your convenience. The Resource DIRECTORY is available both in print and online (at www.50plusLifePA.com), so it’s accessible whenever and wherever you need it. We sincerely thank the Resource DIRECTORY’s sponsors for their financial support and dedication to their friends and neighbors. Without them, this “key” could not have been fashioned to unlock the doors to so many types of resources in Dauphin County. Sincerely,
Donna K. Anderson, Publisher
