Keeping faith with Toni Child Toni Childs’ latest national tour will see her performing tracks from Keep the Faith, along with well-loved favourites and a special preview of her brilliant album, Citizens of the Planet at the SS&A Club Albury on Sunday, September 2. Audiences will be again captivated with her powerful vocals, charismatic live performances and commanding message. Best known for her heavily R&B-influenced Don’t Walk Away, Toni Childs hit the big time in 1988, when her critically acclaimed debut album Union went Double Platinum in Australia, selling 200,000 albums. The same year she was nominated for three Grammys including Best New Artist. Her second album, House of Hope went three times platinum and in 1997, the release of Many Rivers to Cross caused her Greatest Hits album to go five times platinum, selling over 500,000 albums. She released the emotionally hard hitting album Keep The Faith in Australia in August 2008, a blend of roots, rock and folk gospel songs and her latest tour demonstrates the enormous soul and vision she is famous for.

Summer Bay bad boy on the Border Home and Away heartthrob Lincoln Younes, who plays the youngest member of the troublesome Braxton brothers, along with Rhiannon Fish will be joining in Groove Saint’s second birthday blockbuster VIP pre-drinks on Saturday, September 1, 2012. Other celebrations include special set by Denzal Park and treats handed out by the Canadian Club Party Crew. Having played soccer for 14 years, Lincoln originally had his sights on a sporting career. But after being part of the Global Rock Eisteddfod Challenge
in Japan in 2006, where he performed in Peter Pan, he realised acting was the passion he wanted to pursue. Having grown up in Gosford, Canberra and Bendigo, he moved to Melbourne for his VCE and was accepted into NIDA’s one-year weekend course, “A Young Actor’s Studio”. In 2008 while completing high school and NIDA, Lincoln successfully auditioned for the acclaimed Australian television series Tangle. He played the role of Romeo for two series and guest starred in City Homicide before starring
in the Australian feature The Wedding Party (headlined at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August 2010) with Isabel Lucas and Josh Lawson. During his final year of high school, Lincoln focused on studying and went on to start an Arts/ Law degree at Melbourne University. After six months he decided to defer university to travel to London. But before he could leave, he auditioned and was offered the role of Casey and relocated to Sydney instead.

In the digital era of the 24-hour news cycle, how do photojournalists square their commitment to the truth with the media’s voracious need for a graphic image? When the threat of death is a daily reality, why do they do it? Landing in Sarajevo and joining a pack of seasoned war journalists, rookie photographer Dannie Hills sets out to capture the perfect image. Each photograph she shoots becomes a kaleidoscope of dreams, memories and emotions - exciting, painful, and forever haunting. Widely acclaimed as a remarkable piece of physical theatre, this award-winning play combines fluid movement, live sound and animated projections to convey a frenetic, restless energy. Set against a backdrop of 20 years of conflict, Bare Witness is a visceral experience that will change the way you look at the news.

Literary lunch with O’Loughlin Laugh a little over lunch with one of Australia’s bestloved comedians, Fiona O’Loughlin at Grind on Olive on Thursday, September 6, 2012. Fiona describes her book, Me of the Never Never, as “a chaotic memoir about family, friends and finding out that all the world’s a stage (I’m going through).” Indeed, she has enthralled audiences the world over with her stories of motherhood, mishaps, friends and faux pas. Delight in the company of a big-hearted and down-to-earth woman who is never short of a yarn.

Natalie Forrest, Prime7 news Your biggest personal achievement? That’s a tough one. I think actually becoming a Journalist. I originally started studying to become an accountant before I decided what I wanted. Several people told me I wouldn’t make it - but that just made me all the more determined. Can you cook, and if so, what is your favourite thing to cook? I love to cook (not great at it, but love doing it) - one of my signature dishes is Spinach and Ricotta Canneloni. I also make a pretty awesome Pavalova. Last book you read? I’m currently reading “The True Story of Ned Kelly’s Last Stand” by our Albury News Editor Paul Terry,
prior to that I read “The Hunger Games”. Favourite place to grab a bite? Tough question - I really love Asian food.. so there’s a heap of places I love to eat at. Where would we find you on a Saturday night? On Saturday night I’m usually either emceeing charity events or catching up with friends for dinner. What’s on your bucket list? I’ve always wanted to be able to feel zero gravity. And do an African Safari. The celebrity people tell me I most resemble is... I do sometimes get confused with news readers from other networks (was mistaken for Melissa Doyle once).
What’s your life motto? Give it your best shot! Who is your ultimate celebrity crush? I don’t know that I’d say celebrity crush - But if I could have dinner with just one person - It’d be US President Barrack Obama - he’s incredibly charismatic. Any hidden talents? I’m a marathon shopper (seriously.. I can out shop anyone!). Describe yourself in three words? Loyal, Genuine, and (fiercely) Competitive. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you take? Good company, my toothbrush, and lifelong supply of chocolate.

By Peta-Jo Whitney
THIS is less a book review and more a social service. My message of warning to all those lovers of the written word out there: don’t read Fifty Shades of Grey. I bought all three books, ready to take the literary journey I’d heard so much about. Instead, I got a sub-standard young adult fiction novel, an unending linear journal of one young woman and her first b oyfriend. Except that she’s not a teenager and he’s not some jock that’s careless with her heart. Started as an erotic spin of the doubly successful, Twilight series, Fifty Shades morphed (at the behest of Steph Meyer’s lawyers) into the pairing of one doe-eyed university student, Anastasia Steele, and an international business executive with a penchant for masochism, Christian Grey. Even with the change in ‘job descriptions’ you can clearly see this is a rewrite of the Bella-Edward love story, right down to Christian’s exquisite home, his effervescent sister and his hobby glider (since he can’t carry her up the nearest forest pine in two seconds). But there is with a crucial difference – I cared about the characters in Twilight. There isn’t enough real emotion, or even a plotline beyond their sexual interludes, carved into these two lives to give them any real depth. Yes, there’s sex. Plenty of it and with little more foreplay than his terse reminders that she stop biting her lip. And I guess that does it for some people. It’s what kept me reading – believing the sex must be good to have become such a phenomenon. What I didn’t expect was my guttural reaction to her first ‘punishment’. Call it anti-feminist, misogynist or what have you. It settled like a hot coal in the pit of my stomach. There is nothing sexy about reading of a young woman, clearly inexperienced in life and blindsided by what she thinks is love, be hurt as part of a sexual act. To be fair, I’ve only read the first. The tedium I endured through one was sufficient.

E T U I DEN By Joel Hargreaves
Starting out as a rather optimistic idea thirteen years ago to attract tourists to the region, the Deniliquin Ute Muster began as a small spark in the minds of some and quickly escalated to engage the likes of similarly minded people from all around the country. October 2nd, 1999 marked the first time Deniliquin held host to over 5000 people and 2839 Utes all located in the one festival at the same time. This amazing record still stands to this day and has gone down in regional folklore as well as a Guinness World Record. This attendance wasn’t an anomaly either; with each New Year bringing thousands flocking back to Deniliquin come rain, hail or glorious sunshine. What keeps managing to bring

people back each year is often the line-up of artists, entertainment, partying and off course... the accumulation of a many different breeds of the Aussie icon ‘The Ute’. This truly iconic festival celebrating rural Australia has developed into a living, breathing beast of its own that is indeed a force to be reckoned with and this year is no exception. One of the biggest things that repeatedly draws floods of people to the Deniliquin Ute Muster each year is the roster of artists they manage to pull to the region. Like most festivals the line-up of musicians is a main drawcard for people to attend and this year is no different. With a line-up that seemingly gets better with age, a number of big names such as Kelly Clarkson, The Living End and Lee Kernaghan have
been named to perform at this year’s Muster. For those of you unfamiliar with these popular artists making an appearance this year it is yet another step forward for the rural area of NSW. One of the major artists scheduled to line up this year are The Living End (pictured above), who are a three-piece punk rock band from Melbourne. Over the course of their career have had three albums reach number one on the ARIA charts and have become a household name all around Australia. Formed in 1994, The Living End began forging a career with a relentless blend of punk rock that eventually saw them rise to fame with the late nineties smash single ‘Prisoner of Society’.
‘Prisoner of Society’ was the critical turning point in The Living Ends career and by being able to back it up with other such hits as ‘Roll On’, ‘All Torn Down’ and most recently ‘White Noise’ it’s no surprise they have been asked to attend the Ute Muster and help set the crowd on fire. Perhaps though The Living End can only be topped this year by the international pop rock sensation Kelly Clarkson who hails from Fort Worth Texas in the United States. Now at thirty years of age and showing no signs of slowing down, Kelly Clarkson is riding on the success of her last album ‘Stronger’ which was released last year. Clarkson appears to be a kind down to earth performer and doesn’t fail to deliver an entertaining live show. Clarkson is also popularly remembered for her strong dynamic vocal
display and for hit songs such as ‘Miss Independent’, ‘Since U Been Gone’, ‘Breakaway’ and ‘I Do Not Hook Up’. But of course even with these big names on the roster wouldn’t be complete without some good old fashioned household country music artists such as Joe Nichols, Lee Kernaghan, The Mcclymonts and Jasmine Rae to name a few. With all these artists located in the one place, everyone who attends is sure to be in for a good time and truly get their money’s worth. So if you own a Ute be sure to grab some tickets and drive on down to a true celebration of Australian rural life and you won’t be disappointed.
