Neighbourhood Policing
UPDATES FROM GMP SALFORD NORTH WEST
GMP Public Consultation:
GMP has launched a Neighbourhood Policing Consultation in the latest step to ful l public promises made by the Chief Constable. We're holding an event at Salford University, Mary Seacole Building on 5th April 2022 19.00-21.00pm, where the people of Salford can speak directly to one of our Chief O cers. In addition, GMP wants to hear your views on neighbourhood policing. The Chief Constable has committed to drive forward improvements to the service that GMP provide and the results of this survey will in uence policing in your community. You can read more and access the survey at: www.gmp.police.uk/news/greater-manchester/ news/news/2022/february/neighbourhoodpolicing-consultation-launched/ Responses to the questionnaire will be used to assist the development of GMP's Neighbourhood Policing Plan, which is a key component of Chief Constable Stephen Watson's Plan on a Page improvement plan. Assistant Chief Constable Scott Green, who is overseeing the consultation as GMP's neighbourhood policing lead, said: "I'm delighted to be able to say that we have now opened our Neighbourhood Policing Consultation which will o er members of the public an opportunity to be involved in shaping our plans for local policing. The Chief Constable has been clear since he arrived in GMP that neighbourhood policing is the bedrock of British policing and therefore overhauling our previous approach is a signi cant component of the Plan on a Page improvement plan that he unveiled last September. We've already made some signi cant steps with the introduction of dedicated Chief Superintendents in each district and we are now looking to build on those strong foundations even more. A policing consultation of this scale is something that hasn’t taken place in Greater Manchester for some time so I would encourage members of the public to grab this opportunity and have their say. It is Your Neighbourhood; Your Police; Your Say. The consultation is due to last for six weeks and the questionnaire should take around ten minutes to complete so make sure you visit the GMP website and help shape our approach moving forward." A further list of venues and dates for the public consultations are available on the GMP website.

Share your garden bird sightings to contribute to a national survey. Here’s how…
This spring we have spent a lot of our time in our homes and gardens and so, by now, we may also be familiar with the regular wild visitors. Chances are you’ve been taking pleasure in putting seed onto a bird table and watching the di erent birds arriving through the day. Perhaps it has piqued your interest to know more about the familiar and unusual birds that you might have seen. If that’s the case, why not contribute to an ongoing survey on garden birds? Since 1995, all year round, ‘citizen scientists’ have recorded the birds and other wildlife visiting their gardens, enabling researchers at the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) to answer important questions about garden wildlife. The BTO Garden BirdWatch o ers an opportunity to learn more about garden birds and other wildlife while contributing directly to BTO’s important scienti c research on the value of gardens for wildlife. The organisation say: “The more we know about how wildlife uses our gardens, the more we can make our cities, towns, villages and individual gardens better for nature.” The survey involves simply keeping a list of the birds you see visiting your garden over the course of a week, and then entering this into the BTO’s online recording system. You can also record other garden wildlife, such as butter ies and mammals.
GET INVOLVED!
The Garden BirdWatch is normally run as a membership, with an annual fee of £17, that entitles you to a helpful book and regular magazines. The generous nancial support of participants is what allows BTO to carry out its work monitoring garden wildlife and its scienti c research. Membership also entitles you to access to the online recording system, a regular e-newsletter with information on recording and identifying garden wildlife, as well as access to the BTO’s team of wildlife experts, to answer your questions.
Kate Risely, Garden BirdWatch Organiser at the BTO says: “A connection to nature is so important to our well-being, and the easiest place to watch and learn about wildlife is in our own gardens. We hope that this opportunity to join the Garden BirdWatch community will help people across the UK nd new meaning in their garden birdwatching, to learn new things and to play a part in national research into our garden wildlife.” To take part in Garden BirdWatch, visit the website www.bto.org/our-science/projects/gbw/join-gbw The BTO is the UK’s leading bird research charity. A growing membership and up to 60,000 volunteer birdwatchers contribute to the organisation’s surveys, collecting information that underpins conservation action in the UK. The BTO’s work is funded by supporters, government trusts, industry and conservation organisations. At its offices in Su olk, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, sta analyse and publicise the results of surveys and projects.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Details are correct at the time of publishing. However, please check event dates and times with the venue in case of any changes.
To attract and retain customers, your business needs to understand the value of marketing. People are unlikely to simply walk into your business and buy something from you if they don’t know who you are, what you are selling and why they should choose you over the competition (who are already doing that marketing to get noticed). Many smaller businesses don’t place enough importance on marketing. They often see it as something that requires a lot of money and fancy advertising campaigns, but you don’t need the budget of Coca-Cola to market e ectively. For example, with no money you can allocate a couple of hours of your time to promote your business through your social media channels. With a small amount of money you can place a print advert or a website banner.
Whatever you do however, you must be consistent. And here’s why - before any of your marketing is acted upon, your prospects need to go through four stages: Recognise, Read, React and Remember. RECOGNISE: When someone rst spots your advert it ags you up in their sights. They see you, take a quick look and then most likely move on. READ: The second time someone spots you they pay more attention – they read what you’ve got to o er and understand you a bit more. REACT: Generally, when someone spots your advert for the third time they get a sense of déjà vu. But even though the process of recognition has started, and they may like what you’ve got to o er, the timing may not be right. Other priorities such as a boiler to replace, or Great Uncle Ray’s 100th birthday present to buy, might mean their cash is needed elsewhere. Also, the larger the purchase the more time they will take to research and consider. At this stage though, you are on their radar.
REMEMBER: While your marketing communications are important to you, this isn’t always so with your prospects even if they speci cally requested them. They may lose or misplace them, throw them away, accidentally delete them or spill their co ee on it. There may also be the slim possibility that you haven’t encouraged them to take immediate action. So, to help them remember, the key weapon to your marketing success now is Repetition.
REPETITION: Your marketing communications are competing with so much other marketing, that to convert your prospects into buyers, you need to keep in touch with them, repeatedly, before they will nally be motivated to act. Repetition builds familiarity which in turn helps build credibility and encourages people to do business with you - also known as the “Know, Like and Trust factor”.
How can you achieve this? With regular advertising in a trusted magazine such as On Our Doorstep (over 70% of our advertisers are repeat clients), combined with social media marketing, newsletters, direct emailing or even a lea et drop.
Important! Ensure your website and social pages are up to date, as the majority of people will research your business online before deciding to buy.
