Welcome Summer has been and gone for another year! When the sun finally decided to put it's hat on there were barbecues and water fights all round (even the dogs got involved). As always the summer season did seem to fly by and the kids are all back at school and settled in. Our youngest has just gone into year six, top of the school, so is officially one of 'the big kids'! The real big kids are setting off for university as I'm writing this with no idea how much work it is to cook, clean and look after themselves - good luck with the beans on toast! Speaking of university, congratulations to all of this year's graduates! Balstock rounded off the summer nicely with the whole town buzzing and showing their support for the local acts playing at this year's festival. The next big event to take to the town is the annual fun fair that lands down on October 2nd. For three days the town will be full of rides, games and lots of sugary snacks. I'm not sure I'll be braving any rides myself, that's best left to the kids who can stomach a few flips and spins after eating their body weight in candy floss. The football and rugby seasons are both back underway, I'll hopefully manage to make a few trips down to Legends Lane to show the teams some support in the coming months. Jacqui has recently started a new sport with a local club, she's managed to sway our eldest daughter to join her at ‘Back to Netball’ on a Thursday evening. They're having a great laugh and keeping fit too, if you're interested pop along for a trial session on a Thursday evening.

c info@onourdo orstepbaldock. h co.uk With Halloween still to come a number of shops are already stocking up and preparing for the dreaded Christmas shop - apparently you can never prepare too early but I can't see myself tucking into any mince pies just yet! Also towards the end of the month is Hartsfield school's annual firework display which I can safely say will be as fantastic as ever. Tickets are available from Tapps Garden Centre, Baldock Community Center and Hartfield school. Shortly after the kids are back off school again for the October half term (I know, I haven't recovered from the summer holidays yet either). If you're looking for things to do Harriet Kelsall has a number of events going on including a jewellery making workshop for the kids and adults to enjoy together - maybe you could wrap them up and save them for Christmas.

News from Sandon JMI School – October 2016 We started back on 1st September with all our children in full me from the start. Mr Jinkerson's class are taking part in the Olympic Legacy event at Knights Templar School along with all the other Year 6 children from the feeder schools. This is an annual event which is eagerly awaited by our eldest pupils. It gives them the opportunity to try new sports and also mix with children from all the other Baldock Network Schools; many of whom they will meet up with again as the majority of our pupils move on to The Knights Templar School a er their me at Sandon. A er the amazing Olympic Games we have been focussing our assemblies on teams and the importance of teamwork in our everyday lives. Star ng with our family team and then thinking about school and any other teams that we might be involved with. We have been thinking about how each person can make a difference in their team, but also how important it is to learn to work together. We are currently looking forward to the Village Fete where or Year 3 and 4 pupils are playing their ukuleles and are performing the opening ceremony. Our wonderful caretaker has just completed 28 years working hard to keep our building clean and ship shape. We thank her for her reless efforts. You may remember in a previous piece that I men oned a parent helping our juniors to build bird boxes. One of our Year 4 pupils was inspired to make a further box at home and created one that looked like a castle. He sent pictures to Blue Peter and they awarded him a Blue Peter Badge which he proudly wears.

We have taken delivery of new i n te ra c ve s c re e n s fo r a l l o u r classrooms which are a fantas c aid to learning. We now have an outside gym, basketball court and table tennis table thanks to the Sports Premium. All these were a very exci ng surprise for the children when they returned a er the summer holidays. This month we are having our Harvest Fes val where we collect items that we can deliver to Jimmy's Night Shelter in Cambridge.

Music in the Woods At the end of the summer term we had a special Music Day at the nursery school. Throughout the day the children had access to a wide range of musical experiences ranging from making musical instruments, playing musical instruments to listening to visi ng musicians and dancing to music in the garden. A number of parents came in to show the children a variety of dierent instruments to include a violin, keyboard, guitar, clarinet and recorder. Our Caretaker Greme LaRoche performed to a smaller audience than he is used to at Balstock but they were just as apprecia ve! We were very fortunate to have a group of very talented musicians from The Knights Templar School perform a short concert to both the morning and a ernoon groups of children. It was great to have such great role models to inspire our 3 and 4 year olds at the nursery. Linda Bance, who many of you will be familiar with from Play Music Play and the work she does with the Children's Centre, helped us to organise the musical event and supported us throughout the day. We are hoping that the event will become a regular occurrence in the future. We are working closely with the Children's Centre in Baldock

and during the summer holidays we hosted a family picnic together in the nursery garden. Another event is scheduled for the half term holiday in October. More details will be available from the Holly Blue Children's Centre. Jane Mille - Headteacher

GOODNESS GRACIOUS – GREAT WALL OF CHINA North Herts locals Sue Hutchinson and Lissa McGown have taken up the challenge of walking the Great Wall of China to raise money for Alzheimer's Society - together they are TEAM TREKSPIRATION!! Sue Hutchinson, 48 and Lissa McGown, 39 have smashed their original target of £10,000 by organising various local events and private dona ons. They will be taking part in a six day trek of the Great Wall of China in October 2016 which will cover up to 80 kilometres. They will be flying out to Beijing on 15th October 2016. The two friends have arranged a sponsored Clubberciseathon (dancing in the dark with glow-s cks), a quiz night, a retro disco, a movie night and have dedicated their me to various street collec ons. Their final event was a dinner and dance at Letchworth's Broadway Hotel on Saturday 3rd September where they raised £1,800 with 105 family and friends in support. Susan also wrote a 'rap' for the dinner & dance based on the #sogonechallenge which she saw on YouTube. She posted this on her Facebook page and it has since had almost 4,000 views and 75 shares. According to Alzheimer's Society, there are more than 850,000 people in the UK living with a form of demen a and in less than 10 years, that will rise to one million people. Susan said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer's Society because so many people are affected by this crippling disease. What mo vated me to try and do something posi ve to raise awareness was hearing the heart breaking stories of two of my closest friends. They both had parents suffering with Alzheimer's when I registered for the trek. Sadly Beryl & Peter have both passed away since I started this journey so it makes it even more poignant. This disease takes away the lives of its sufferers while they are s ll living and is so sad and devasta ng for those who

love them. This will be a tough challenge for me, but it's nothing compared to what those with demen a are going through every day.” “Throughout the ac vi es, it's great to know I will be raising funds to help support people to live well with demen a today and fund research to find a cure for the future. Despite the fact that we have reached our target, it would be great to keep on receiving any sponsorship I am amazed by the kindness and generosity that people have shown us and also to how many people's lives have been impacted by this form of demen a.” Jeremy Hughes, chief execu ve at Alzheimer's Society, said: “We are delighted that Susan and Lissa are giving their me to support Alzheimer's Society. This year alone, 225,000 people will develop demen a, that's one person every three minutes. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Susan and Lissa to help us con nue our vital work. We hope people will back them in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer's Society can con nue leading the fight against demen a.” To find out more, please visit www.alzheimers.org.uk/events or call 0330333 0804. PETS & FIREWORKS

DON’T MIX

Spectacular and dazzling firework displays always make bonfire night an exci ng event for friends and family. But our pets don't look forward to it, they are frightened by the sudden bangs and flashes in the sky. A recent study has found that 49% of dogs have a sound sensi vity. We can help our pets by preparing for the firework season now. Changes made at home can make anxious dogs and cats more relaxed. Provide a safe haven or den to allow the animal to retreat to - an area in which they feel secure. adap ng a cardboard box and adding bedding and toys will make them happy to se le there. Plan to walk the dog early in the a ernoon and make sure that cats are also inside before dark and that all windows, doors and cat flaps are closed. Stay with your pets, close the curtains, have the radio on (as background noise) and behave normally – if you comfort your dog, the message he picks is that he is right to be frightened – you are! Our rabbits, guinea pigs and small pets also need to be protected from the noise and bright flashes. The firework season can be a difficult me of year for many adult dogs and cats. The good news is that there is a wide range of op ons and tools available and, by working with them we can make a real difference to the welfare of sensi ve dogs. Please go to the advice page on website – roystonvets.com for more ps and contact the prac ce on 01763 242221 or our Baldock Branch on 01462 895579 to discuss medica ons.

5 minutes with... ...Hayley Norman from *What inspired you to open an art gallery? Well we all like to have a dream of what we would like to do and as I love to paint my own 'li le pipe dream' was to one day have a show of my own work… it didn't quite end up like that but the ar st's I now represent are far be er than anything I could do, so a blessing for my customers! *Tell us about the gallery's art collec on? We have an amazing eclec c mix of talent within our por olio and the main ethos behind the gallery is about making art accessible for everyone which is why we offer such a diverse range of work, from interna onal ar sts to local talent. With over 100 ar sts at all levels there is something for everyone and by keeping the gallery fresh we work hard to get the most current art in the gallery for everyone to enjoy…you should pop down and see for yourself! *Who is your most popular ar st and why do you think that is? We work with a number of acclaimed interna onal ar sts who have a strong army of collectors but if I had to say who was the most popular it would have to be Fabian Perez. To put it into context the Pope recently requested a personal portrait from Fabian and he is loved around the world as his imagery is so atmospheric and sugges ve. He has a way of capturing that crucial moment in a narra ve and that's very alluring. His work is full of mystery and it keeps you thinking which is why people are drawn to this ar st and they always look fabulous on any wall!

*Where do you start in finding the perfect work of art for someone? It really comes down to personality and finding artwork which best displays that person's style and taste so that it compliments them and their home. At the end of the day we want people to look at a picture, smile and be upli ed – your home is your haven so why wouldn't you want to fill it with beau ful things that make you smile! So we listen to what inspires or mo vates someone to find their perfect work of art. *Anything else? I think my key aim is to dispel the snobbery around art as many people have come into the gallery worried that they know nothing about the subject and think that it will be too expensive to buy. Everyone is unique and it doesn't ma er what you know about art it is whether or not you find a pain ng that connects with you – something that 'You' love. Prices start from £95 upwards which makes art an affordable reality. We also have ar st solo events throughout the year, so they're a great opportunity to not only see the gallery in full swing but also to meet an acclaimed ar st, Fabian Perez has now been to our gallery twice which is a huge honour! It's always an exci ng evening and you get a great insight into the life of an ar st and their mo ves behind their work. I s ll can't believe it when I see an interna onal 'superstar' walking up to the gallery to unveil their work at our gallery. It's beyond words and I feel very proud to have been able to do this for everyone to enjoy, truly a memorable experience which our clients love – our events are free and all you have to do is call us to come along, so we hope you can make our next event when we welcome Doug Hyde interna onally acclaimed ar st on Friday 4th November 7 – 9pm.

2016 marks the 30 year anniversary of Tesco moving in to the impressive building in the heart of Baldock. Elaine Hewe , the community champion for the store said, "The building is certainly unique, and I don't know of any other Tesco store, with such a rich history." In fact, it was a er hearing visitors to the area inquiring on the façade. Then listening to local shoppers reminiscing of their me at the former factory, that lead Elaine to do a li le research on it's past life. The building was designed by architects PHS Burdi in 1924, It appears that he took inspira on from the archaeological discoveries found in Egypt, two years previously. The owner intended to relocate his Kosmos, film processing company there, but allegedly ran out of money so never actually moved in! The building lay empty for four years before it was bought by the Full Fashioned Hosiery co Ltd in 1928. In 1936, The FULFA joined forces with a New York company Julius Kayser & Co, The maker of ladies stockings and lingerie. In 1946, they changed the name to Bondor Ltd. The business temporarily manufactured parachutes for the war effort in World War two. It was during the war that 12 employees lost their lives, while figh ng abroad. The owner at the me had a memorial garden built on the grounds, and dedicated it in their honour. On the 11th March 1946, they hosted two very special visitors, Queen Mary, and the then Princess Elizabeth. The company changed it's name to Kayser Bondor in the 1950s. Many of our customers remember their me there fondly, it was a company with strong family values. They had a very ac ve social club, and provided it's workers and their families, with a ballroom, an open air swimming pool, (some of my colleagues remember learning to swim in it) two tennis courts, a bowling green and gardens. Kayser Bondor ceased trading at the site in 1983. Then Tesco purchased the impressive building signalling a new era. "I know that there are many more stories, and I would love to tell them with a display at the front of the store. News from St Marys Junior School A new school year with new challenges and new adventures: I wonder what this year will bring amidst a na onal Brexit agenda, a government expecta on of academisa on for primary schools along with a very challenging na onal curriculum – but hopefully with a slightly easier Reading SAT paper for year six next May! For the sixty new children who have joined us, we hope they find the transi on from their familiar Infant School easy and enjoy the new challenges of being a Junior. One thing's for certain, the year will fly so we need to enjoy and make the most of every moment. On Wednesday 21st, schools from all over North Herts will come together at Knights Templar School to take part in the annual Olympic Legacy event. They will have the opportunity to compete in allocated country groups trying out lots of sports they will have watched in the amazing Paralympic Games in Rio such as Boccia, wheelchair basketball, si ng volleyball and handball. For those who prefer a crea ve rather than sporty involvement, there are opportuni es for photography, news repor ng and T shirt design. It is always a brilliant day where children from all over the area can work together in teams - thanks to the organisa on of the North Herts School Sports Partnership. It is a real strength of educa on in this area that schools come together in this way. One occasion we always enjoy early in the school year is our Harvest Fes val. We are holding this in St Mary's Church on Thursday 22nd September. Whilst apprecia ng the tradi onal Harvest Fes val where home grown fruits and vegetables are shared with the community, we prefer to use this me to support the people in our community who need a bit of help at this me. We are always overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of our families - children will be bringing in ns and packets of food

to help local organisa ons such as the Foodbank, the Night Shelter and the North Herts Hostel for homeless young people. On Friday 30th we are taking part in the Macmillan Coffee and Cake event. This year, we are having a Bake-Off with children bringing in their homemade Victoria Sandwich cakes to be judged by our school cook and then enjoyed - for a small payment of course, for a great cause. Teachers are busy planning visits to enhance the curriculum and make learning exi ng and relevant for the children. The first of these takes place next week, when year five visit a museum and take a river cruise, looking at London architecture as part of their geography topic. The PTA we share with our friends at St Mary's Infants will be mee ng to plan fundraising events that will hopefully include a disco – always enjoyed – and the Christmas Fair scheduled for Friday December 2nd at the Infant School. As Headteacher, I love this part of the year – full of op mism and an cipa on for great things to come! Patricia Jenkins - Headteacher, St Mary's Junior School

Baldock Gardens By Graham Tapp

Tapps, The Baldock Garden Centre

October 2016. Autumn this year is showing its self to be the best I have ever seen, as was the late spring. Once back somewhere in the sixties as a child, I remember my Dad taking me around the farm hedgerows and saying that the berries and hips were the best he had ever seen, but my word I believe this is even better. Now, as you know I'm from Kent and the hedgerows down there take some beating, but Hertfordshire has, it beaten by a long way this season, I’ve been travelling down to Kent twice a week for the last seven weeks and I can tell you that what we have here is magnificent in comparison so please go out and enjoy it before the birds and wildlife eat it or ravages of the coming winter destroy it. From a grower’s position, this year has been horrendous it started cold and wet as you would expect, but stayed like it right through until late June, we had germination failure after failure, carrots and beetroot took up to four re-seeds to get going, potatoes were all over the place and then when everyone did get them going the dreaded early blight struck and crop weights have been poor. Onions have been patchy; some have had good results mostly from sets others have had very poor crops especially from seed sown. Runner beans had a terrible start this year some growers having to reset or sow three or four times and then once in root, growth was very poor due to soil temperature being so cold, those that persevered had very good quality beans for a few weeks but they very quickly turned and went to seed becoming stringy and tough, they then dried out in the record September hot weather, this has consequently shown up at flower shows as not many bean classes had decent runners being shown. Ground beans have been a bit easier going and we have seen some really nice examples being shown. I have not got much in the way of vegetables this year as I'm in the process of initiating a new veg production area, what we did get was a few toms and cues, the toms didn't like growing under my white poly covers and as expected did very poorly with low yields and misshapen fruits, the season started poorly due to the prolonged cool weather, then when it did warm up enough towards the end of June they went utterly berserk. As soon as the weather did get hot the dreaded mildew set in and my cucumber plants went white, being that we don’t use much in the way of chemicals around the Garden Centre I didn't have much I could do about it apart from picking the very worse leaves off. Fruit has also been a mixed bag this year, some gardeners have not much of anything and others have done OK Me? Well, it's been a bit of a disaster, Cherries had no crop what so ever some trees being completely bare, we had a fantastic blossom showing, but it was far too cold for too long and kept blowing from the east so we didn't have any early insects showing to pollinate them, as bees don’t usually have much to do with cherry pollination this far north. Apples are very patchy the later croppers like Spartan look to be doing very well, my early varieties such as Discovery, Worcester's and James Grieve etc. Had little or no crop, my Cox orange pippins have been looking very average, but the selfpollinating sports of Cox have been looking very good, I've had to make sure that I thinned them out to avoid the risk of them going into biannual bearing, Bramley have been very poor, again the self-pollinating Bramley have done a bit better My plums have been the same as everyone else this year, Marjorie's seedlings had a phenomenal crop, best for some time, but I Victoria's were modest but mostly inedible due to moth (Maggots) the Golden gauges nonexistent, again too cold for too long.

I've had lots of people in this year with lots of questions about fruit and veg growing and I have tried to console them in regard to what has happened and why it has happened, mostly it has not been anything they have done, but just the season over which we have no control without expensive structures, artificial lighting, watering and feeding systems. And that all the lovely fruit and veg we see in the Supermarkets is grown far away, imported or in the structures I've mentioned and the high percentage of waste it takes to get the perfect example to your plate, having grown thousands of tons of fruit for Sainsbury and other supermarkets I know how much was rejected and then used for cider or just thrown away. It takes an enormous amount of skill, time and money to get top notch fruit and veg and sometimes even that is not enough, one hail storm is all it takes to bankrupt a grower. For a commercial grower or showman, a poor season would be a disaster, but for us ordinary gardeners, it’s a challenge and what makes gardening fun, so here's looking forward to next year. Start next years, growing by getting the garden or plot tidy. Start now, get the pruning underway the weeding done, lawn aerated so as to avoid any moss growing, move and or split any perennial plants that need it, then sit back and work out what you want out of your garden for next year, make a few notes, remembering where you have put them, sit back in your favourite armchair and watch the birds and wildlife visit yours and their garden, don’t forget to put a little food out for them you will be amazed at what you will see. Gardening should always be fun, if it's not, then come and see me and I will help, even persuade you to do it in such a way that you will fall in love with it again, it may be just a table and chairs with a Gin and Tonic that does the trick. Enjoy, Graham. OCTOBER

with Did you know that 90% of smartphone owners use their phones in bed? Catching up on Facebook, Snapchat, Twi er, checking emails or simply playing games, it's something that we all seem to do nowadays. I'm certainly par al to checking my email before going to sleep, I also like to listen to some music or audiobooks before dri ing off. I am also prone to my phone slipping out of my hand and landing on my face! Phones were never really designed to be used like this so when I received the Ungrip, I was interested to find out how it would secure my phone from slipping out of my hands, be that in bed or out and about! The Ungrip is a very simple gadget that s cks to the back of your smartphone. It comprises of a very strong s cky pad a ached to an ABS plas c removable clip with lanyard a achment (for even more security!) with a super strong polyester strap design to fit around your finger. It's a very clever idea which completely takes away the risk of the phone slipping out of your hand making it almost impossible to drop. The s cky pad is held on with powerful adhesive which can be easily removed by sliding co on or dental floss behind it when you want to take it off at a later date. The loops are also interchangeable to suit your moods. Ungrip comes in a variety of designs and pa erns to suit everyones tastes, it's compa ble with most brands of phone and will s ck to most non-porous surfaces. You should check your phone is compa ble before using it however as some materials stop the Ungrip s cking to the phone, so check first! I have been tes ng the ungrip for several weeks and can honestly say I found it a great idea, I own a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge which is notoriously slippery and having the Ungrip a ached to the phone really helped whilst out and about and especially when I was playing Pokemon Go!!. It's a strong gadget which could be used with larger devices such as iPad Mini's which can also be prone to sliding out of your hand. The ungrip be purchased online for around £10 at ungripyourphone.com Compe on Time!! Would you like to win your very own Ungrip courtesy of The Gadget Man? All you need to do is tell us why you need one! Jacqui, Paul and Ma will judge what they think is the best answer and the winner will receive an Ungrip free of charge. The closing date for entries is the 20th October 2016, the winner will be a n n o u n c e d i n n e x t m o n t h s i s s u e . To e n t e r e m a i l ungrip@thegadgetman.org.uk and tell us "Why I need an ungrip". There is no cash alterna ve, compe on is only open to UK residents and the judges decision is final. Good Luck!! Super Sarah to Share Her Slimming Secrets “I was 16 and 16 stones!”….Super Sarah now kicking her heels and set to share slimming secrets A young slimmer who transformed her life by losing over 8 stone is taking her success out into the community to shape a whole new career helping other people change their lives and achieve their weight loss dreams too. 23 year old Sarah Phelan from Letchworth joined her local Slimming World group on the Grange Estate in January last year ago and has dropped from 19st 6lbs to 11stone! Life as an overweight teenager isn't any fun and Sarah explains how she felt trapped in a cycle of over-ea ng and misery. A scenario only too familiar with many young adults today. “I had always been overweight, the chubby child who grew into an obese teenager. I especially remember being 16 stones at 16 years old and thinking my weight matches my age. Yet despite being incredibly unhappy I con nued to seek comfort in food. I would avoid going to par es or just hanging out with friends in public, finding any excuse not to go.” Sarah explained how 18 months ago something clicked in her head, she knew life was passing her by and ac on was needed. “I was so nervous about joining a weight loss support group, petrified about what would happen, I remember si ng in the car

courage to go in. Others were turning up, people of all ages and sizes and everyone was cha ng and seemed relaxed so I went for it. Shari who runs the group made me feel completely at ease and that first night went by in a flash. I remember leaving there so excited to give it my all that week and WOW I was rewarded with 6.5lbs off at the scales the next week and my journey had truly begun.” When I first joined Slimming World as a member, I never dreamed that I would end up helping other people to lose weight but now I just can't wait to get started. A er losing over 8st and comple ng my training, it's a privilege for me to be able to pass on the experience, insight and understanding that helped me. “Support is really the most important thing. It all starts with feeling that you're not alone. I couldn't have lost the weight without the weekly help, encouragement and understanding of my own Consultant and group. Weekly we share food ps and ideas.” “Slimming World isn't just about changing what you eat. Becoming more ac ve is important too. Our Body Magic programme takes the fear out of ac vity by showing people, many of whom have unpleasant memories of being forced to take part in ac vity at school, how they can build ac vity into their daily rou ne without having to take up tradi onal forms of exercise like going to the gym or running. My group will be suppor ve and its definitely going to be fun!” Sarah's Slimming World group will be held at United Reformed Church on Whitehorse Street, Baldock every Monday at 7.30pm . For more informa on call Sarah on 07875 286190 or just pop along to any of our Baldock groups

Harriet Kelsall Fairtrade Festival From 7th-8th October Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery is set to host its first Fairtrade Fes val at the company's Her ordshire Jewellery Centre in Halls Green, near Weston. This special event is taking place over two days and will launch on Friday 7th October with the arrival of an exclusive guest to the converted barn studio. A gold miner from the MACDESA mine in Peru will be travelling to the UK and visi ng the jewellers to talk about his experiences and the difference that Fairtrade has made to the lives of miners, their families and communi es. The fes val will con nue into the weekend with Fairtrade pop-up stalls showcasing the wonderful produce from Fairtrade farmers and fun children's ac vi es like panning for gold. Across both days, visitors can browse and purchase beau ful jewellery made with Fairtrade gold, as well as watch the company's team of talented goldsmiths at work. Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery is proud to have played its part in launching Fairtrade gold in 2011 and helping it to become established in the UK jewellery industry. The company is commi ed to raising the profile of Fairtrade within the industry and educa ng customers that by choosing Fairtrade gold over 'standard' gold they are offering a lifeline to ar sanal miners and their communi es. Senior Designer and company Fairtrade 'ambassador' Laurie McGrath says, “When a customer chooses Fairtrade gold, their jewellery becomes an emo onal link between them and the miner. Buying Fairtrade gold makes a world of difference to miners, their families and their communi es. Every piece of jewellery has a story and when that story involves the building of a new school or clean drinking water then it is most definitely a tale worth telling”. Driven by passion and integrity, Harriet added, “Those of us who are lucky enough to be at the top of any business are in the fortunate posi on of making choices that really ma er. Bespoke jewellery may indeed be a luxury, but it should not be enjoyed at the expense of anyone else. It should not be selfish or ignorant of others' plight and our decision to do our best not to let anybody suffer in the jewellery supply chain really ma ers. From that point, it's a small step to convincing our customers that choosing Fairtrade gold empowers them to make a difference”. Harriet was nominated in 2014 by Ins tute of Directors as one of six 'Women Most Changing the Business World' largely due to her ethical stance in an industry historically blighted when it comes to ethics or environmental ma ers. The judges felt that 'through her emphasis on bespoke design, ethically sourced gems and Fairtrade gold, Harriet has helped revitalise the jewellery industry.' Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery was awarded 'Bridal Jewellery Retailer of the Year' at the 2016 UK Jewellery Awards. The company was dis nguished as 'amazing' by the judges, with their ethical and sustainable business prac ces also highly praised by the esteemed panel, made up of some of the industry's most respected figures. The Best Anti-aging Medicine As people are living longer in the UK, recent research shows they are spending their later years with more health problems. The good news is that there is also overwhelming evidence that regular physical ac vity has important and wide-ranging health benefits. Older adults can con nue to stay stronger and healthier with regular exercise, especially strength training. The long term benefits range from reduced risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers to the enhanced func oning and preserva on of func oning with age. Physical ac vity also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing stress levels, depression, demen a and Alzheimer's disease. Exercise also helps strengthen muscle which can aid balance, help avoid injury and improve any recovery rates. In fact the more physical ac vity an individual engages in, the greater the health benefits. To stay healthy or to improve health, you need to do two types of physical ac vity each week: aerobic and strength exercises. Older adults aged 65 or older, who are generally fit and have no health condi ons that limit their mobility, should try to be ac ve daily . "Two minutes of exercise … is enough to boost pensioners' health," the Daily Mirror reports. A pilot study into high intensity training suggests it may be an effec ve method of comba ng the effects of ageing. The best an -aging medicine - EXERCISE ! LISA 07796578032 - FITBODYSOLUTIONS

Walking Netball has evolved from a growing demand for walking sports. O en, one of netball's strengths is that people never forget playing the sport and the memories as well as the love for the game never leave. Walking Netball is a slower version of the game; it is netball, but at a walking pace. The game has been designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level. From those who have dropped out of the sport they love due to serious injury, to those who believed they had hung up their netball trainers many years ago, it really is for everyone. Lucy Pon ng (England Netball Development Community Coach) said 'I really enjoy coaching the walking netball groups, it is great to see so many ladies ge ng ac ve, having fun and trying a new team sport. I have heard one lady describe it as life changing! The emphasis really is on having fun, socialising whilst learning a few simple new skills at the same me and new people are always very welcome'.
