“We were married at the peak of Covid. For many months leading up to our wedding it was a real possibility that we wouldn’t have any family on the day as they are all interstate and the borders were closed. So one of our highlights was being able to have our parents there with us.

“A favourite highlight was watching my bridal party chase chickens for me to get a good photo opportunity with one. Anyone who knows me knows I love my chickens!

Monique Clemens and Sean Supierz met while volunteering on a car racing team in Western Australia. “We met at the the drags. Sean was the ‘Engine Guy’ and I cooked the bbq and packed the parachutes.”

“Sean bought tickets to Canada for my 30th birthday, which was in May but the trip was planned for the following February. I had never seen snow and we hadn’t had a holiday together for about five years. When we were packing, Sean started getting possessive of his backpack! He had a rather expensive camera in there and kept telling me he didn’t want anyone to steal the bag. All through the airports and the first few days of our trip I was not permitted to touch this bag. He took me out to a beautiful frozen lake and asked me to turn around to face the water as I had bright red hair and he wanted to take a nice photo of the snowy background with my contrasting fiery hair. I could hear him rummaging around in his bag. He told me he was changing lenses and not to turn around. He finally said he was done. I turned to see him down on one knee offering me a gorgeous ring. In typical Monique style (although I don’t remember it this way) all I could say was ‘Are you (blank) kidding?’. I did eventually say ‘Yes’.”

“Neither of us are religious and we both love the country. We were looking for a venue with a rustic country feel, whilst also being a little pampered on our special day. We were actually married two days prior at the Registrar’s Office. It was intimate, with just our parents. We didn’t want there to be any pressure on the day itself and I am so glad we did it this way! It meant we were able to have one of our good friends, Christine Hunt officiate even though she wasn’t a registered celebrant. A highlight was my bridesmaid making it over from Perth. My fondest memories of the day were feeling closer with my family than ever before and being lucky enough to have our special friends and family there to celebrate with us.”

“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is don’t be afraid to tell people what you need from them. We were dealing with a very difficult time for the world and there was a lot of uncertainty. We were asked almost on a daily basis whether or not we were proceeding or if the wedding was cancelled. We were living moment by moment in constant anxiety with the unknown. We ended up sharing a message with all our family and friends explaining the position we were in, what we were feeling, the fact that our hands were tied and what we needed from everyone was their support and patience.”

“Our original plan was to honeymoon in Japan but at the time all international travel was on hold.”
