“We had a very clear image of how we pictured our wedding day. We wanted rustic hinterland charm combined with the refined beauty of our local coastline. So we referred to our theme as Country Coastal.
David Natoli and Christopher Hanzic met at work. “Funnily enough our fathers had worked together for many years but the opportunity to meet each other never actually arose. Chris and I met through employment at Woolworths as teenagers. We were both hired and commenced working there at the same time. Although we didn’t really talk with each other much, we were friendly but it was more of a professional relationship. We had a mutual friend, Sabrina who worked with us and our relationship built from hanging out together as a group. We started talking to each other outside of that friendship group which led to dating. We went through university together, both studying to become Registered Nurses and have both been working in the field for about six years.”
“Marriage had always been something we had discussed although it wasn’t overly important to us. We were both just comfortable in the commitment we had made to each other. While we had no plans of getting married, after a while we found an Australian ring designer in Tasmania who specialised in making unique jewellery pieces out of non-traditional materials. We both decided on designs we liked and ordered the rings. They sat in our cupboards for some time until Easter 2020 when David proposed to me. This was in April of 2020. Shortly after, David began working with our designer again and created two one-of-a-kind pieces unbeknown to me.”
“We wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of us as a couple. We are very casual people, but at the same time we like to enjoy some of the finer things in life. The first thing we did was research venues that we felt suited us as a couple and were willing to work alongside us to bring our vision to life. Having explored multiple venues, it was Mavis Kitchen & Cabins and their amazing team of dedicated professionals that stole our hearts. We decided on warm Autumn tones for our colour theme. We created a Pinterest board and filled it was anything and everything weddings that fit within our theme and style. This formed the foundations of our wedding day. Flowers played a massive role in the decoration of our entire day. Simple garlands of greenery with a slight pop of colour are simplistic and beautiful. Rather than a traditional guest register, we had a linen bound book with blank pages as well as an Instax camera and fancy pens. Guests were able to take a photo with the camera, stick it into the book and write a message. We hired a photo booth which was awesome entertainment. Our guests went crazy with it. We were given electronic copies of all the photos.”
“We worked with Ben Carlyle to build a ceremony that was truly us. It was authentic, there was laughter, and there were tears. Ben was amazing and so engaging. A musician played live music for the ceremony, canapés and into the reception. We had a predefined point in our ceremony where our musician then turned DJ for the remainder of the night.”
“The team at Mavis Kitchen & Cabins are basically magicians! They were attentive. The atmosphere they created! The food… OMG the food! They nailed the entire day.
“Our advice for other couples planning their wedding is to budget money in the places that you value as a couple. For us this meant creating memories throughout the day. Our highlights were the ceremony, the flowers, the food, our guest book, the photo booth and the live music. Make the special moments special. We used Sparkulars to highlight our reception entry and cake cutting and had fog for our first dance. These added another element of entertainment for our guests while creating beautiful photos. Your photographer and videographer are invaluable as they create the main form of memory you will look back on so invest wisely! Settle on a theme and stick with it. It’s the small details that we really appreciate from our day.”
“We were exhausted after the wedding and spent a couple of days at Oaks Casuarina Santai Resort. We then flew to Hamilton Island and spent time relaxing by the water, taking tours to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach.”
