I call them fashion aficionados, because they understand the science of how a well, put-together-ensemble can make a person feel from the inside out. So far, the show has highlighted celebrity types as well as the local executive looking to reinvent their look from head to toe. This style team is on point and they work well together. What I love is that they are a family! Everyone brings a certain expertise to the table and even though they may not always agree, it works out in the end for superior results!

Of course, with the Fall season comes that blessed holiday Turkey Day! I love Thanksgiving! It is one of my favorite holidays. I love when family and friends get together to cook, reminisce and just have some good oldfashioned fun!

It is also a time to whip out the boots, hats and wraps! I love a great cape/shawl/wrap situation! LOL! I also love to match my boots with my handbags. It’s all about the accessories, which Rhonda Murray , my Creative Director explores on page 14 in her Fall Style File. Make sure to check out her picks for some of her fashion favorites!

B.O.R.N. to Style B.O.R.N. to Style is a lifestyle makeover series centered on a “fierce” team from New York, and their larger than life boss, Jonathan Bodrick. Springing from the Harlem-based eclectic boutique, B.O.R.N. (borrowed, old, refurbished and new), the style superheroes land at the door of those desperately in need of some “color in their lives.” By rifling through their client’s belongings and asking blunt questions, the team at B.O.R.N. gets to the root of their fashion malaise, before whisking them away for a transformation that goes beyond just their look. In each episode, viewers will see them offer up their own brand of therapy and inspiration to clients as they transform them into their best possible selves. Source: fyi,

Jonathan Bodrick B.O.R.N. storeowner and fashion maven Jonathan Bodrick has been styling people since the age of five - when he first asked his mother if he could give his teacher a necklace from her jewelry box as “a little style inspiration.” Jonathan fondly reminisces about large closets filled with elaborate hats and impeccably tailored suits, as his father, grandfather and uncles were all sharp dressers, further driving Jonathan’s keen eye for fashion. As he recalls detailed stories told by his parents, as well as old pictures of The Savoy in Harlem, he says there has never been a lack of inspiration in his life. Fashion is in Jonathan's DNA and he uses it every day as a vehicle to influence and inspire. FF: Where are you from? Hometown? JB: I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York. FF: How did you get started in fashion/makeup? JB: Fashion is part of my DNA. Fashion has always been a part of my life. FF: What advice to do you have for up-andcoming fashionistas or stylists trying to break into the business? JB: I would tell them to study fashion. Keep their eyes and ears open to magazines and what's happening in the street. FF: What is our favorite piece of clothing or accessory that you cannot live without? JB: I love a great leather jacket or trench coat. Confidence is the best accessory. FF: What can we expect from you in the near future? What upcoming events or appearances do you have planned? JB: I'm working on my hat collection. FF: What are some Fall inspired fashion items you love? JB: Leather motorcycle jackets. All things 60's inspired, and awesome hats. Layering is a must for Fall.

JJ Langan Joseph “JJ” Langan sought refuge from the streets by immersing himself into artistic films, as well as his aunt’s eclectic collection of fashion magazines. This immersion became the springboard for his obsession with the bigger, bolder, more opulent world beyond his concrete jungle. JJ’s creative passion, coupled with his fascination with human behavior, led him to be a street-style photographer, telling visual stories through people and fashion. When JJ and Jonathan Bodrick’s paths crossed, they became instant friends, cultivating an inspiring and supportive friendship that has lasted over 13 years. JJ began his career as a wardrobe stylist for independent and student films, and the experience motivated him to become a full-time film student at Brooklyn College, while simultaneously working in Harlem to help build the B.O.R.N. brand and work with Jonathan. JJ sees himself as a visual artist who wants to inspire, empower and create opportunities for others through aesthetic storytelling. FF: Where are you from? Hometown? JJ: I was born and raised in the South Bronx. FF: How did you get started in fashion/makeup? JJ: Ever since I was a kid, I've always been obsessed with fashion photography. While other kids were out playing baseball or tag, I was immersed in a Vogue magazine, gazing and studying pictures of supermodels shot by Peter Lindbergh or Bruce Weber, in complete awe! It wasn't until later on in life after years of working as an event photographer, that I took a job as a Production Assistant on a student film. I wound up becoming the wardrobe stylist for the duration of the project after helping some actors get dressed for their scenes. It was love at first dress…as if a light had been turned on, illuminating my path to becoming a fashion stylist. FF: What advice to do you have for up-and-coming fashionistas or stylists trying to break into the business? JJ: READ! Read everything! Become familiar with the business of fashion in addition to designers and trends. FF: What is our favorite piece of clothing or accessory that you cannot live without? JJ: My oversized black wayfarer sunglasses. I buy multiple pairs and never leave home without them. FF: What can we expect from you in the near future? What upcoming events or appearances do you have planned? JJ: We're planning to create a promotional campaign to generate additional exposure for our new showroom and styling services. FF: What are some Fall inspired fashion items you love? JJ: Oversized coats & leather pants and Hood By Air clothing! Connect with JJ: FB: www.facebook.com/JJBORNtoStyle | Twitter: @iamjjnyc

With big dreams of being a jetsetting makeup mogul and owning several businesses, she took a risk after college and made the move to New York City. Apple Cake With Toffee Crust For The Cake: 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 1/4 cups vegetable oil 2 cups granulated sugar 3 large eggs 2 large Granny Smith apples— peeled, cored and cut into 1/2inch dice 1 stick unsalted butter 1/4 cup heavy cream 1 cup light brown sugar 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Toffee Sauce: 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup water 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons heavy cream 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1. Preheat the oven to 325°. Butter and flour a 9-inch springform tube pan. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour with the salt and baking soda. In a large bowl, whisk the oil with the granulated sugar. Whisk in the eggs one at a time. Add the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth. Fold in the diced apples with a rubber spatula. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the lower third of the oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool slightly.

2. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, combine the butter, cream and brown sugar and bring to a boil over moderate heat, stirring. Remove the toffee glaze from the heat and stir in the vanilla.

3. Place the warm cake (still in its pan) on a rimmed baking sheet. Pour the hot glaze over the cake and let it seep into the cake, poking lightly with a toothpick. Let the cake cool completely, about 2 hours. Invert the cake onto a plate, and invert again onto another plate, right side up. 4. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Using a moistened pastry brush, wash down any sugar crystals on the side of the pan. Cook without stirring until a medium-amber caramel forms, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and quickly but carefully stir in the cream and butter. Simmer the sauce over moderate heat for 2 minutes, then remove from the heat and stir in the brandy. Pour the toffee sauce into a pitcher.

Hazelnut Tea Cake with Moscato Pears For The Cake: Bartlett pears—peeled, cut into 8 wedges and cored 3/4 cup Moscato d'Asti 1 cup hazelnuts (4 ounces) 7 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar 4 large egg yolks 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 3 large egg whites 1/2 cup heavy cream 1. In a bowl, combine the pears with the Moscato d'Asti and let stand at room temperature for 2 to 4 hours. 2. Preheat the oven to 350°. Butter and flour an 8-by-1-inch round cake pan. Put the hazelnuts on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes, or until richly browned. Transfer the hazelnuts to a kitchen towel and let cool completely. Rub the hazelnuts in the towel to remove the skins. In a food processor, pulse the nuts until they're finely ground; be careful not to over process to a paste. 3. In a large bowl, using a handheld mixer, beat 6 tablespoons of the butter with 1/4 cup of the sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolks, 1 at a time, until thoroughly incorporated. Add the vanilla, then fold in the hazelnuts and flour. 4. In a stainless-steel bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar and beat until almost-firm shiny peaks form. Stir one-third of the egg whites into the cake batter to lighten it, then fold in the remaining whites. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 20 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer the cake to a rack and let it cool slightly in the pan. Run a thin knife around the cake and unmold it. Cover loosely with a kitchen towel. 5. Drain the Moscato d'Asti into a small saucepan. Simmer over low heat until reduced to 3 tablespoons, about 10 minutes. Let the syrup cool, then refrigerate. 6. In a large skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the pears and cook over moderately high heat until browned, about 4 minutes per side. Arrange the pear wedges on top of the cake in a spoke pattern. 7. In a stainless-steel bowl, beat the cream until it starts to thicken. Add the reduced Moscato d'Asti and beat until soft peaks form. Serve the hazelnut cake with the whipped cream. NOTES: This cake relies on whipped egg whites for volume. It's easiest to separate eggs when they are cold because they are not as fluid as when they are at room temperature.
