Weight Management Market at a Glance Obesity rates continue to rise around the world, drawing attention from consumers, medical professionals and regulators. The Health & Wellness Trends Survey from the Natural Marketing Institute (NMI) is a nationally representative sample of more than 3,000 adults that provides an understanding of the motivations, as well as the strategies and tactics, that are currently being used to address this problem.
SETTING THE STAGE 52% of Americans exhibited a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more, indicating they are overweight or obese. 20% of Americans are very satisfied with their current weight.
WHO’S MANAGING WEIGHT? 3 in 10 reported they are currently managing their weight, down from nearly 5 in 10 in 2010.
Of those managing weight, 25% are motivated by appearance vs. 19% motivated by health reasons.
